Hoping this is the start of pub closures.Hoping there is a realisation that we do this properly for 2-3 weeks and maybe get over it, or we do it halfheartedly and end up having to continue it for 5-6 weeks.2 very popular restaurants near us have now closed their doors too.

What I meant was all related to releasing prisoner's.
As regards how do you know that the prisoners to be released are low risk types?
The only people in jail are usually in for good reason in this country, most thugs get suspended sentences.
I just think its not the ideal time to release prisioners with already strained emergency services.

I posted yesterday regarding South Korean testing data. I’ve just rerun the calculations on latest data published ion worldometers. As of 9th March they had run 210144 tests yielding 7500 cases, a prevalence of 3.6%. Translating to the population of 51.5 million yields an estimate of 1.86 million cases. The death count as of today is 71. This gives a refreshed estimate of 0.0038%, or 38 deaths per million cases. This translates to an Irish death count of 190. But that’s assuming a worst case scenario that we all get infected. Hopefully the measures we are taking re hand washing and social distancing will reduce the transmission and we will end up with a much reduced death count.

I also think we are in between, but much closer to Spain/Italy than Asian countries.

We have pretty much zero containment measures in terms of preventing imported cases, whereas the developed Asian countries do have fairly serious ones.

We have limited measures within the country to limit human interactions (more than Italy at first but not super strict either). The Asian countries are only doing slightly more but this is because they have used other proactive ways to keep the numbers low.

We have some but limited contact tracking whereas Asian countries have very agressive tracking (they pretty much have a police inquiry to identify the people you were in contact with in the past 2 weeks and test all of them to isolate infected people).

We have no mobile phone warnings to the public when approaching areas with know cases, whereas Asian countries do.

We have a restricted testing policy whereas most Asian countries are testing en masse. Even people with no symptoms who just wish to be tested.

We are telling our population that masks and respirators are useless whereas the Asian countries are organising distributions and most of the public is wearing them.

We have a population which is not disciplined and not very aware of the risk (packed pubs are a good exemple). Asians are way more disciplined an acutely aware of the risk (they had SARS before). They will follow basic hygiene and social distancing measures perfectly and won’t do stupid things like “virus parties”.
