Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

They will be. It was announced at the press conf earlier today that more details will be provided next week, as it spreads and infects more areas.

BTW what's the 'Red Warning' being spoken of here? I wasn't aware of a colour scale public warning for anything other than weather conditions.

No a supermarket is a necessity a pub is not. People need to eat. They don't have to drink alcohol

Amazed by this argument. Can people actually not see the difference.

    Apparently not.

I find those that want to be in a busy pub to "support them" or just to "go for a pint" as completely lacking in knowledge about the attributes of this virus and also the effect of their actions on the economy in the medium term.

While these halfwits think they are supporting the local now, conversely in all likeliehood they are prolonging the effect on the country and pain on the economy just so they can have their few pints.

    A cohort of selfish clowns.

I wonder how rubbish collection is going in Italy.
My son is special needs and is incontinent large use of nappies.
Strange the things the mind worries about where to store if there is no collection

We have the ability to work from home since the Beast from the East and for adverse weather.
However, even after Leo's speech on Thursday we've been told we still have to work business as usual and cannot work from home.
With creche and school closed it's a nightmare but we were told if we don't come in we can take unpaid leave but I have rent to pay and honestly I'd rather catch the virus myself than have to ask for a few weeks grace from my LL. So unpaid leave isn't an option.
My office also doesn't practice 1 to 2 meter distances between us. In fact no manager has been in since the announcement on Thursday.
I do not want to rock the boat but at this point should they not be encouraging us to work from home? All the head office staff have made changes but my office seem to be forgotten and I'm worried. Am I being a total drama Queen? Apologies if so, it is all just a bit surreal seeing it all unfold while it's still business as usual for us.

You are not being a drama queen, if you can do your job remotely then I cannot see why your manager would not encourage this. The minimum you should be able to move your desks further apart particularly if other ppl have stopped coming in. However I think your manager should allow you to WFH. I'm just a regular working person myself but our boss has encouraged us to and it's a small company .

What does a red level warning mean though?

I would assume it's your lockdown scenario : the closure of all socialising places (or even the total lockdown where the entire country comes to a halt)

That's a personal decision for you not to go out for your meal. Could buy a voucher instead to support the business on your missed custom.

Chief medical officer said there isnt a need to keep holed up in houses though, it's a personal choice but it's not required. Not good for someones mental health to stay inside that long

Yep it's a personal decision I made in order to try help stop the spread of a quite serious virus and to try protect people I love and care about. I can go for a meal in a months time or 6 months time but if I was to catch something and pass it on to a vulnerable person who fell seriously ill I dont think I'd ever forgive myself.

Honestly I dont give a flying fcuk what the CMO says or his opinion - I'm only doing what I see as common sense. There was a Doc on the radio yesterday who said its prudent to limit interaction with people from outside your family unit in order to help stop the spread and I see that as the best course of action. Dont worry I wont be inside every day I have jobs to do around the house and as far as I'm concerned the only people with mental health issues are the ones that arent taking this in any way seriously.

All this is showing me is that there is quite a large proportion of the population that just dont give a toss about anyone or anything but themselves. I feel sorry for them to be honest

In which case, it would be at least Wednesday, and more likely today week, before we see the first Irish recoveries. At least the increase in positives is largely due to scaling up of testing, rather than the actual percentage going up.

I meant check-out to mean die.....be the 28th before we see average recoverys come online

Imo we will be over 1000 cases today week

Maybe the plan is to let all the idiots get infected first so the sensible ones are infected only after the curve is flattened?

This thread was interesting until today but now it is more about bitching and moaning than the covid19 outbreak.

Post after Post after Post of bitch whine moan crybabies.

Guys, you're wearing down your immune system with all the stress and the hate.

Calm down, get off boards, switch off the phone, have a glass of wine at home and watch something good on Netflix.

We are all going to have to implement some changes that are somewhat unpleasant or a hindrance to our social lives. It’s unfortunate but it’s the only way to tackle this. We don’t have a cure and we don’t have a vaccine so right now all we can do is alter our human behaviour in the hope it’ll help drastically.

You are “hoping hard” it’s so bad on Monday that you’re called in?? Serious hero complex going on there. I’m off to the pub. G’night.

Oh and I’ll also be in work on Monday, for the HSE, same as every other Monday.

You'd think someone working in the HSE would have a bit more cop on...

You are potentially endangering more than just your own life. I hope you know that! (But I'm sure you do!) Selfish **** !!

Is a "red warning" even an official term for that type of thing. Have we a storm on the way?

A nurse wouldn't have that info nor a rank and file guard, at this stage anyway.

You're right to be concerned and your employer should be facilitating you to work from home wherever possible.
You and your colleagues are learning much like many other workers around the country that your employer doesn't give a damn about your health or family.

Glad the HSE basically called out the muppets filling out pubs....

They deserve criticism but.... who are the people enabling them to do so ? Yes, publicans, not giving two fûcks about anything or anyone, couldn’t give a toss about anybody staff included...like everyday of the year, it’s ONLY about filling the till, to hell with everything else, the vintners association can go fućk themselves too, the crap they’ve been spouting... encouraging their members behavior.

The three Gardaí on the left there are equipped with measuring tapes and are now going in to enforce social distancing guidelines.
I mean, it seems unfair to them that they are put in a position where their lives are in danger because of the Vintner's Federation. They don't even have masks. Years ago you could sue your employer if you got cancer because of inhaling asbestos etc. Don't see how this is any different.
They should operate a scheme not unlike getting a mortgage where they check your bank statements etc during triage. If you've been found to be in a pub based on your transactions etc then straight to the community centre / school or other non medical building with you. Do not get a ventilator, do not get ICU.

Hard decisions being made in Italy. This seems like an easy one.
I hate to have to agree with you on this and would suggest extending that to people who have travelled abroad in the last fortnight, but I'm also certain that because they aren't even bringing in a ban for pubs yet, there is no way they'll bother with this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,136 ✭✭✭✭is_that_so

They did already for confirmed cases. They're not even giving a general location now, just including the entire Republic as one big infection. Apparently they're switching to a more "granulated" way of reporting??

From Monday... or maybe Tuesday. Everything is going to be happening Monday or Tuesday. They're maybe going to give us a sense of how many ventilators they have then too. And maybe tell us how many community transmission cases. And if we behave ourselves, maybe then they'll tell us how many healthcare workers are now sick with the virus.
There are a few new systems coming on-stream, the e-referral for GPs to request a test, a gradual rollout of testing nationwide and that granular reporting. That hasn't been used so far because the numbers were too low. From what they said that report will be weekly, with the usual daily updates on cases as normal.

Lads have to ask and before people say otherwise I'm happy to have some sort of lock down, but if the place locks completely down how are you all surviving without wages etc. It seems to me everybody talks about the greater good but I'm talking short term. I know loads of people who rely on their wages for weekly food etc.
Seems to me that a lot of posters on here are people who have jobs that allow working from at home or don't need child care etc but there are alot of people who don't have the same options.

There has to be something done. Surely the government realizes we can't live without money. Rent, bills, food need to be paid for.

Yeah that's nothing compared to a normal Saturday night. The temple bar are turning people away as they've 100 people inside.

Anyway anyone going there is a tourist, no sane irish person would go into the temple bar pub

I am not amazed, addiction knows no logic, nor does it take account of self preservation or duty of care to family or friends.

While not condoning going to the pub, I don't see the same outrage over whole families packing the supermarket. Surly one parent could stay at home if possible.
