It's just so utterly disrespectful to our healthcare workers to be sitting in a pub right now...I'm sitting at home anxious enough about this but with the luxury of being able to WFH for the foreseeable. Imagine knowing that this sh*tstorm is going to come to your workplace and you've got to get up every day to face it, putting yourself in danger every day and knowing you could get infected and infect your own family with it - and then seeing these absolute a*holes not being able to give up a couple of pints on a Friday.

This is exactly how I feel. Have to keep going to work because I am responsible for patients. Will probably get sick at some point and bring it home to my other half. We've discussed plans for if that happens and how we will cope, we are both in our 30s so hopefully will be ok. I've had to let my parents know that I wont be able to have contact with them and we've had to make plans that we will just meet once a week in an outdoor place 2 or 3metres apart. Living the hermit lifestyle from last week to avoid picking it up for as long as possible.

So whats the thinking on letting children out to play? My kids and a few of the neighbours kids kick football in the green across from our house everyday. I let them out today for a couple of hours after their homework. The local village facebook page was awash with people giving out about other people and one big long comment about my kids playing football and how irresponsible the parents must be and even went as far to say that they were putting us all at danger for letting the kids out to play. Now I know this is serious but people need to calm down a little. The amount of rubbish and fake news going around the net and WhatsApp groups is amazing.

Kids can carry/spread just like anyone else. Responsible thing is to isolate as much as possible. We need a group effort here. It’s going to be forced upon us in the end so isn’t it better to be proactive?

The amount of people infected and dying in places like Italy and Spain is NOT fake news kids carry and infect people without even knowing they shouldn’t be out playing . You have to think of the bigger picture !!!
Ok guess they should be kept in you are right. Gonna be tough to keep kids in for a month. Regarding the fake news I didn't question the severity of the situation or belittle in anyway the people that have died in Italy or Spain what I was talking about is the amount of absolute misinformation bull going around. A recording of some egit pretending to be an army commander calling the troops to action etc. What egits are making this ****e up. Making a bad situation far worse.

I’ve got a London trip at Easter so have a vested interest.

If you postpone, do you HAVE to choose a new date immediately? Or can you get, like, credit to your account and make the decision of when you want to go at a later date?

This is going to get alot worse before it gets better. I have no idea why anyone would even consider travelling anywhere, why bring on the stress of it all. These are unprecedented times for our planet.
I've a holiday for June, even at this point I think it's probably unlikely to happen.

Will suffer punishments beneath the wrath of God

What is the f**king point in 90% of us being sensible, keeping 1-2 metres distance, working from home etc etc when we have selfish wan*kers knocking back pints in the local pub. Shut the pubs ffs. St Patrick’s day will be an absolute joke if they don’t.

Well let's say the whole country isolates and we get rid of this thing. What happens then. We open the border and it all starts again. What's the end game here.

I haven't checked, but I assume pubs are quiet? Trade is suffering?

I am drinking at home, due to social distancing.

I have sympathy with the pubs.

Of the socialising age of 17-40 no one I’ve spoken to has any plans to sit in unless they have kids etc.

Not me tho Im not very social

Yea but the symptoms depend on your immune system etc, some people report chills, some people report a mild cold, some report fever, everyone's different... It can live in the respiratory tract for 37 days but there's no evidence it leaves your system

It doesn’t give the squits so no idea why people need dozens of toilet rolls

    Personal responsibility.

You can live your entire life without breaking a single law and still be regarded as a dickhead.

I disagree. The government needs to make the decision. People are just going along with government advice.

People need to realise the impact of spreading false rumours about lock downs etc.

Too many people are just out for themselves and not thinking of the more vulnerable members of society and how this is affecting them. There is an opportunity for the country to band together and get through things but all the c*nts in the pub, off at Cheltenham and generally playing the yahoo paddy make that unlikely

Statistics compiled by the HSE show that as of 11am this morning, most of those infected are in the 55-63 age bracket.

The second highest incidences of cases is among the population aged between 34 and 44, followed by those aged 45-54 and 15-24.

Although the number of cases among the over 65s is relatively lower at this stage, those in this category are more of risk of complications.

Pubs in Greystones absolutely packed by all accounts. Sad to see. Selfish action that could literally cost someone more vulnerable their life.

It'd be peak Ireland if everyone was avoiding cafes and restaurants all week but still going down to the pub on a friday. :pac:

I feel for the bar staff especially, they don't get a choice in this but endure the risk regardless.

I've gone into lockdown mode. I have a persistent cough but no raging temp. The kids though had temps of 37.8 so Calpol .
Thankfully I also took a fit of sneezing so maybe it's just a cold.l

I think it boils down to the fact that the message is anyone under the age of say 40-50 will be totally fine.

That's the message, it will only affect the older cohort, and so the so called younger cohort feel they are invincible. Only thing I can think of regarding their gathering together at close quarters.

But I suppose none of them have older parents, relatives or friends either, hey ho. Have we really turned into this individualistic society. I suppose we have.

People may be delaying to go to hospital and making themselves sicker. It's unclear at the moment.

And there could be less on trolleys because further up the hospital there has been a big push to discharge patients which frees up beds for those waiting on a trolley

Kids out playing football in the fresh air at a distance from each other are less of a risk than those in full packed stale air pubs
So lets get it in perspective

Only 2 cases if community transmission today.
Cases are from people who flew in from infected areas. Close the airports. Isolate and treat those affected. Stop adding to the numbers.
There is a reason why Europe is now the epicenter.
