I agree that older people should be isolated as much as is possible but so should the rest of the population- think of all the younger carers/staff working in nursing homes/hospitals etc. We know this virus is highly contagious so isolating one part of the population just won't work.
Also by your own graph there the mortality for 50-59 is 1%, not 0.5%.

The other problem here is we don't know what sort of longterm damage this virus is causing? Certainly some evidence that its leaving lasting damage, severe in some cases.


The UK are being extremely reckless and we need to cut all transport between there and Ireland. An all Island solution would be the ideal situation here.

Particularly for one of the world's wealthiest countries with presumably one of the most advanced hospital systems. Next door to North Italy but colder is not a good place to be right now...

I read a lot about ICU beds but I would imagine based on what other countries are doing, you don't need full ICU for this? You need respiratory equipment and that, but not the full shebang that keeps people alive after car crashes and that?

I see that China gave a lot of this stuff to Italy in a gesture of good will. Do you think Ireland will be able to source and set up this stuff next to normal beds?

I'm holed up with a pregnant wife and my daughter away from my mam who is 81. I've had to take my 9 year old daughter away from her (she used to stay there for a few days during the week and they were best mates) to try and protect her.

It breaks my heart to think they may never see each other again.

We had 400 ventilators ordered from Italy from before their outbreak. And now they’re “unsure if they will come”.
I would imagine they 100% won’t be coming.

Currently we have 250 ventilators with 6 on order ...

I do fast deliverys locally and last night the town seemed quieter than a normal Saturday night but was a few still knocking around pubs smoking, it was more like a sunday evening,

Roads where very quiet after 8pm but uptake of deliverys seemed normal which i thought might have been down due to the virus,

Alot of people still paying cash also which im uneasy about i have a bottle of sanitizer with me used every time i had to handle cash,

i see on fb some of the local pubs are closing from today for foreseeable too hard to regulate numbers.
id say most of rest will follow suit just hope they dont wait till paddys day is over first,

It’s so hard, I’ve asked my folks to steer clear of us (two smallies), it’s breaking their hearts they still want to come. But I keep saying we want you here for them when they have a treatment / vaccine in place. If we can all do the right thing and give health services time it will help. Stay strong all we can do.

This is a hypothetical and possibly selfish question, but one which is on my mind.

My dad would be in a high risk group. He's over 70, has various conditions including borderline emphysema, and is on lots of meds for years. Saying that, his constitution is super strong, and he has survived so much that would have knocked another person. But he is getting older obviously.

I'm an Irish citizen, but a German resident.

If, God forbid, he caught this down the line, and if measures are out into place to stop travel, would I still be allowed into Ireland as a citizen? But would there even be flights? And would I even be allowed to see him? And then would I be able to get back to Germany?

I know nobody has the answer to these questions, but thoughts would be appreciated. My thoughts are that the likelihood might not be so good.

I also know that travel restrictions are there for a reason. I'm just thinking this out as, in any situation previously imagined, if your dad gets seriously sick, you get to him as soon as possible. I can't imagine not doing that.

Other pubs are just absolute gougers. No moral responsibility. Looking at The Auld Dubliner and The Temple Bar who have crowds in every weekend. They would be cashed up to weather this.

Anseo is a great spot, great Guinness and great supporters of the more left field Irish music scene.

I popped out last night to get a loaf of bread. Couple coming out of a packed restaurant on Camden St (not all of the restaurants on Camden St. were packed mind and others deff had social distancing setup) were talking about what pub they would go into next and they decided on Anseo, wish I had walked behind them to see their faces when they arrived to a shut door.
