If you are being serious it's how milk goes from being in a cow to being in cartons in the supermarket and everything in between

    Same for all goods

    I was being serious thanks.

Serious question. Do people wear masks while packing the food. Do you recommend washing the pack / contents before use?

    Thanks in advance.

Well you have to wash your hands with soap and use sanitizer before entering most food factories.
We’ve installed extra sanitizer around the place.
Sick people are sent home immediately.

We produce raw products for cooking, so it’s not an issue.

I’ve heard bigger lockdown will be announced at 11 tomorrow. Fairly reliable source so I for one am ready.
    What form of lockdown?
    Restaurants will be closed
I would have thought closing all shops bar grocery and chemist shops likely at some stage.
Realistically what else are they going to do?

This pandemic is actually pushing a lot of wheels into motion that would not have otherwise happened.

It's terrifying and it's scary but have no doubt that there will be some positive changes that emerge as a result.

We can't see it now while we are fighting this thing but I hope we come through this stronger and improved.

For my own sake I'm just trying to look on the bright side, it's like looking for a needle in a haystack at the moment but there will be good things that come out of all this.

yeah i agree. farming changed a lot after the 2001 foot and mouth.

things won't return to the same normal after this...one of the new developments might be companies realizing that they can actually let a lot of employees work from home without detriment to their businesses...this would have knock on side effects of less traffic on roads, less crowded public transport...and attribute to over reduction in emissions on the island etc etc

Does not tell you this old lockdown is completely pointless. If we cant keep 1 isolated women safe then what is the point.

Does it not tell you how serious this is?

The food industry standards are higher than hospital standards. I don’t worry about what’s in the packet, but the packet itself yes. I’ve taken to blasting plastic packaging and bottles with Milton. We are in the high risk group so I try to be super careful

This also goes back to who is involved in the supply chain and a question earlier about vets. Department of agriculture vets on farms and meat factories are essential too.

Yup at some point we need to go back. Dont think I'll ever do five days a week in the office again though
As to your second point ironically the people need to enable the business critical people who need to be in are all wfh
We've a presence in about 80 countries so it's been insane

Myself and the OH having similar conversation... pensions and insurance related employees. Parts of our employers business are essential.
Hard to say what exact roles are essential or not...

We don't. If you need to self-isolate for weeks and are used to only being at home weekday evenings and weekends, you're gonna need a lot more than usual. Of many things.

    I see your point thanks.

Like our crowd in touching hands to Neil Diamond last night. Knacks are going to Knack.

It was in the 'Temple Bar' Bar singing Sweet Caroline.

Do you know any Irish people who go to the Temple Bar Bar and sing Sweet Caroline?

Did your mother/granny never tell you to stay quiet if you have nothing good to say?

Or perhaps the saying "it's better to say nothing and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt".

Has anyone actually suggested that the UK will rush the border? Wtf does that even mean?

So think about it. If we manage to flatten the curve and have enough or more icu beds than needed, and if the uk continue with their current plans their health system will be totally overwhelmed ala Italy. Where do you think sick uk people will run to get treatment?

Given your anonymous on the board, perhaps you can divulge your reliable source. Otherwise you’re adding to the rumour mill problem, which is a mix of lies and truth

100s of specialists sending open letters to the British Government.

Basically telling them hiding old people and carrying on is monumentally stupid.

Because Britain is outside the EU are they no longer privy to shared information inside it?

More fake news. Most on the letter are students, and not even in relevant fields.

Everything you buy goes from starting components to assembly/manufacture to distribution to being available to buy

Its supply chain management which deals with that
    It is a fascinating industry

The reason I asked is we have an abundance of milk and meat as a supply chain.
Outside of this we import a lot vegetables and fruit.
I know keelings import a lot from Spain, the logistics behind which are surely going to get interesting.

The rumour of lockdown Tuesday is probably just that, a rumour. But realistically, isn’t a lockdown inevitable? Only part that’s probably untrue is that it’s to take effect from Tuesday no?

LVA accord with Government I reckon. Let Paddy's Day go ahead and then we will close up.

But many pubs have already closed. Good on them.

I thought we were all in this together.

Looking at the Temple Bar street webcam - it's much quieter tonight. Reminds me of the time I went into the centre city at 8pm on Christmas night once. Not a sinner around and I took some great photo's of deserted streets.

Looks like a fairly average Sunday night in fairness.

SO the new text going around now is

Just to let you know ins speaking to my friend who is a guard and just out from conference..full lock down being announced at 11 tomorrow to come into effect from Tuesday. Shops will only be opened for a certain amount of time each day with army outside only allowing certain amount of people in each time. And max 100 people allowed to queue. He said make sure you buy bottled water and any baby stuff required. He could be for 2 weeks or 30 days and is up for review after that. Hospitals have been told to be prepared for Tuesday and army and fire service be prepared for Wednesday. Fire brigade will possibly be used for ambulance duties also.

I just dont know why you need to buy bottled water? are they turning off the water?

Heard the same from a 'reliable' source. This was coming from a gardai who I would think should be shutting their mouth and not adding to the panic
