    It's certainly not ridiculous

It is. Vetted once is more than enough. Other countries can do it. Separate vetting for Athletics and GAA? A joke.

I deffo think Trump has it. He said his temperature was normal there when he was leaving... He doesnt look well.

And he stays out for few mins and fecks off before conference is over. Regardless of what he has to do, that was not a strong show of force from the president.

Is this the first DOH weekend briefing? This is either going to be very good news or very bad news.

There isn't going to be good news for a long time.

Serious suggestion but could we facilitate some kind of more serious online social interaction? I mean like online gigs, online virtual pubs - for the first time in history we have the tools to do all of this.

Being at home doesn’t mean being completely cut off.

We are forced to learn or see new ways to do things as a result of this, hopefully one positive to come from this situation.

No more 'that's the way its always been done so we keep things just the way they are'. Already seeing many efficiencies across business and healthcare as a result of this.

Most people I know are taking it seriously. Why are some people determined to look down on the authorities for not doing enough and general society for not taking it seriously?
Because just driving around today I see people in groups, shops pretty packed out and personally know otherwise intelligent people who are going out to pubs and restaurants and don't see how this is an issue. Never mind the moronic scenes of supermarkets being stripped of bogroll and pasta. If that's taking things seriously, we're fcuked.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Unfortuantely all of these hipster cafes and eateries sit people on top of eachother. They will be a hot bed for viral transmission. Close them now.

But still allow flights into Dublin Airport from Northern Italy.....!!
    Another due at 9.30 tonight.
    Mind boggling....

I think the interesting thing about the UK's approach is that there is an end goal in mind which is being communicated from the top to the public. We might disagree with it but there's some rationale that can at least be criticized.

We don't actually know our governments main goal in the longer term. Are we hoping for a vaccine or that medication will be made available before the peak? It may be that herd immunity is what is expected here too but the public can not yet be told.

Obviously I hope we're getting it right but I don't think we can easily dismiss the UK's approach. The UK authorities will also be getting their advice on what to do by world-class epidemiologists.

I think since the virus is only 3 months no one really know anything for certain - really scary , from been an isolated epidemic in a city in China that most here never heard of - to this nightmare caused from a wet market in Wuhan - I really dont think anyone knows anything for certain right now - I've lived through Gulf Wars/ Storms/ Divorce/ 9 11 but usually you could see an end game , light at the tunnell , this is so scary , with news changing on the hour and every day you wake up the news seams to get worse ...

Jeez they really are ramping things up. Mentioning bi partisan agreement, WTF? A Trump government giving rivals some credit? I’m convinced now Trump has if you also factor in this massive shift....

So now the UK are out on their own brexit version of how to treat this virus.....

Pubs and restaurants be a good starting point.

Retail needs to be on a phased plan and that needs to be extremely clearly communicated.

    Definitely agree with you.
    Pubs and restaurants first
Second non essential workforce and reduction in public transport.
If we can keep infection rate below or near the figures released by the hse, we will be in good shape. But pubs must shut.
Solicitors and such will probably be asked to keep working properly from home people might not realize that legal matters and sadly deaths papers ECT will need to be completed by a stretched department.

It is being reported that the US government is expected to announce an expansion of its travel ban on European countries to include Ireland and the UK.

Reuters, citing US officials and an airline, said that the new ban on Ireland is likely to come into effect on Monday night.

An official statement from Vice President Mike Pence is expected later.

In all fairness while it was extreme, I don't think most people were stockpiling because they thought the shops close or run out, they stockpiled in case them and their entire family would have to self-isolate for 2 weeks or they got sick, and were unable to leave the house.

Not everyone has people who will do a shop for them if they can't leave their house, and not everyone lives somewhere were online shopping is an option.
