If you've no regard for distancing, why are you so diligently waiting for phase 2?

Because that's when people can meet inside

True it is largely gone. Not normally one to care what my neighbors are doing but I know hairdressers are visiting as are builders doing indoor work. Doesn't bother me I'm for rapidly relaxing restrictions at this point too.

Things are organically getting back to normal as most have had enough of the restrictions. I personally will follow health expert guidance and hold my head high when the next wave comes.

So you're obeying one rule to break another one........... Cool.

If the next wave comes, and as the health system, society and the economy disappear down the toilet, the loudest squealing will come from the stupids who refuse to obey social distancing measures.

That's when people can meet outside, with distancing. And you don't intend to distance so that's why I'm asking why you're bothering to wait if you're going to break the rules anyway.

Same with everything, this will be no different!

He's trailblazing, he moves a couple of weeks before each restriction is lifted.

Honestly, if you think any gathering with alcohol (IE: 95% of them in this country) is going to stick to social distancing.. I think you might be in for a nasty surprise.

My prediction is that the idea will be very short lived indeed. Short lived as in, about 3 pints/cans.

Social distancing as in not being able to see friends/family is a bit tough at times but it's not going to last forever. As for the 2m distance, I prefer it to being in someone's armpit ala public transport a few months back. I don't understand the urge for people to walk on top of each other/invade each other's personal space. I guess that makes me an alien given the statements here about it being natural for humans to socialise, not distance etc. I think people are conveniently forgetting that we had one case in March that ended up being 24,639, all it takes is for people to get thick about taking precautions and we're back in the same place. For reference if you think the Irish are bad at following scientific advice then take a look at this https://www.zerohedge.com/health/shocking-crowds-flock-ocean-city-maryland-ignoring-social-distancing

Are citizens of other countries, further ahead than us, rigidly sticking to social distancing or, more likely, breaking into small groups of friends/family and avoiding strangers? If they're not strictly following it, we haven't seen big spikes.

I mean it's better him waiting two weeks than not, dunno why you'd encourage him to do it now. There are different levels of rule breaking. Just because he wants to meet a few friends in two weeks doesn't mean he may as well throw in the towel

A single church service in Frankfurt, Germany, held in early May appears to have led to at least 107 reported cases of coronavirus in the area, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal.

Supermarkets should be a hot house for empoyees contracting the virus. They individually might deal with a thousand customers every day. Those customers handle their fifty products and then the cashier handles those products.
I have not heard of any virus clusters in supermarket staff.

Isn't it funny that it was terrible when travelers weren't distancing a few weeks back. They were seen as a bunch of dickheads on boards. I don't remember anyone coming to their defence with the 3 drink rule back then...

Indeed it is, zero in the supermarkets and the majority of people make no effort to move when you are passing them on the street (I always seem to be the one to move).

So is it ok to have two friends over for dinner if you observe social distancing of 2m?

I can't see why not given what's going on out there. At least you will be making an effort on keeping the required distance.

This is what I'm thinking. The fact that I've been observing it, staying away from crowded places, only shopping when necessary, not travelling anywhere (I don't think I've even gone 5km), and if I know the friends have done all that too, then my feeling is there shouldn't necessarily be a problem.

Once we stay at opposite ends of the table, and don't share utensils or eat out of the same bowl of crisps! :)

When I see gangs of people running and cycling together, big groups of teenagers out on the street, people barging around the supermarkets with zero f**ks given, it makes me think that me having a maximum of four careful people around a table isn't that bad an idea.

Have I missed a big announcement regarding the 5km rule or something? My ex and our teenage daughters did a 200km round trip from their house yesterday to visit my eldest daughter. Today they're getting the bus 20km to visit friends (presumably in the open air but I wouldn't bet on it) and my ex is picking them up this evening. She's been flouting the rules and ignoring government guidelines from the get go. I haven't been beyond 5km in about two months. Who's the bigger fool? I'm starting to wonder.

First ,you are breaking the rules if you do it.

Second ,indoors there is a greater risk than outdoors .

Third ,if you have dinner parties or similar your friends will want to use facilities in the house such as toilets etc.

There are of course positives in your potential behaviour but solidarity is not one of them.

I think it is 4 people can meet outside not inside.
I also heard someone on the radio saying that Bathrooms inside could be an issue as well as Guests using the householders plates, cutlery etc.

I think max 4 people can visit inside another household on June 8th though while keeping the 2m.

I get that about the bathrooms etc, I guess one could set aside a bathroom for guests to use and then fully disinfect it afterwards.

Similarly would put dishes and cutlery straight into the dishwasher (or get them to put their own in).

According to the current restrictions you cannot do that. If you want to break restrictions thats up to you, and you are unlikely to be 'caught', but you should not be having people in the house at the moment if you want to stick to the guidelines.
