Do not compare me, or anyone else who went to Cheltenham, to those that were in Temple Bar or any other bar in Ireland last night. We followed advice and did what we were told and we will continue to do so. Those people who went to the pub last night did not.

Would it really have killed ye to have missed it for 1 year? Would it killed ye to have saved the money, bought an extra big TV, ordered food in from a restaurant and gotten a keg and €200 bottle of Middleton, phoned in your bets and had a "golf weekend" later in the year?

Would it really? Stop absolving your responsibility by putting it on a TD (who is really only in the job because his grandfather was in the biscuit factory and he will tell you want you want to hear) and some public servant in the HSE who doesnt really have time to take you seriously.

If you felt you had to ask that question you know morally you shouldnt have gone.

I saw 15,000 people line up and run a half marathon in Bath UK this morning at 11am!! Supported by over 10,000 lining the streets.

On a flight back out of Bristol I heard and Irish man explaining to the passenger next to him how it's a bloody disagree people complaining about the run etc. He flew over to support his two children running and was out eating and drinking Saturday no issues... and now they closed his local pub in Galway!!.. the cheek! IDIOT... you my friend are an IDIOT!!.

i didn't want to travel this weekend but to me this was essential, I touch no handrail in the airport washed my hands at every opportunity. It's the last travelling I'll be doing untill this is over and working from home for the next 4/5 days.

There is no words to describe the selfishness of some people!.

Plenty of people out last night in Belfast and even today. Some pub owners have had a bit of cop on and closed early but it’s a rock and a hard place. I’ve family who are publicans employing a lot of staff across a number of premises and even though in the north they’re following the advice from the “experts” it’s not practical to implement and the reality is until the UK government do a u-turn I foresee a crisis ahead.

I didnt know you could assemble that many idiots in the one area.

So you really had to ask was it ok to go to Cheltenham!?
I know not much about nothing and nothing about not much.... But I knew it was ridiculous and dangerous for all those people to go...

A TD assured you ? Which virologist member of the house was that?
You went to a mass gathering event of tens of thousands of people for four days. Common sense would dictate not needing to seek advice but simply stay at home for the sake of you and your fellow citizens. Even worse is you trying to further defend yourself. You have no defence and you should be ashamed of yourself.

According to comments the inside camera is offline, it's showing archive footage (I can't get it to show anything but a blank black screen)

Having said that, I have no doubt there's fkrs in there drinking pints

I agree it is a more complex situation that isn't as black and white as many are making it out to be with the benefit of highsight. I will though say that I really hate your line of argument. You have your own brain and should be able to make decisions which you feel are correct and not rely solely on the direction of others and then hide behind those peoples decision. It was pretty clear to anyone with half a brain that sticking thousands of people together in an enclosed space for a long period of time wasn't the most sensible personal choice a person could make in the current situation.

This time will go down in history, and part of that history will be the recklessly selfish people who were prepared to endanger the lives of the elderly and vulnerable in pursuit of their own pleasure.

I wonder how many of these irresponsible and self absorbed young people have been out protesting against the way the future of their generation is being put at risk becausr of global warming and asking older people to change their behaviour.

Maybe start practising what they're preaching.
    And #bekind merchants I bet.

I walked through Temple Bar yesterday evening (didn’t go into any bar) and most of the voices I heard meant that only a small amount of them were Irish. Huge amounts of tourists still came here for Paddy’s week.

On the flip side, other bar areas such as Wexford Street, Harcourt Street and South William Street looked more like a Tuesday night.

I was reading there about the final moments of the corona virus, people get very lucid and they know they're about to drift off and die, asking to see or talk to their loved ones, then it's all over.
Hope its a painless ending and they're not suffering.

China can't be trusted, anyone thinks they have it under control is the one that's nuts.....

They are extremely good at keeping things quiet and secret.

Look at the healthy doctor that was also young that warned against the strain and next thing he is dead.

People are been kept quiet and also the way they test and put numbers down for deaths Carey significantly.

China have closed all the makeshift hospitals they built and Xi walked around Wuhan the other day.

It's been contained in China, biggest worry for them now is importing it.

The question is was China reporting correct number of deaths at peak.

I think they should just start showing clips of how bad the situation is in Italian hospitals as broadly as possible. Play it on any public screens, billboards, TV ads, internet ads etc. And just say "Are you helping prevent us reach similar levels of crises?" or something along those lines

I place trust in the experts, not in some idiots that post on boards who have nothing better to do than criticise.

The TD is an "expert"? If you had to ask then you knew it was wrong. I hope you have no one in the plus 70 age bracket? I think all who travelled to cheltenham should be named a shamed publicly. I told you he only got elected because his grandfather was in the biscuit factory. What was he going to do? Tell you not to go because he is going for re-election after the summer?

I honestly hope the army/ARU are given the go ahead to shoot anyone found looting or causing trouble during the lockdown if they get even a bit violent towards our public servants. Anyone who'd behave like that during the worst crises our country has seen in our lifetimes isn't worth **** to society and would be no loss

The army is spread to thin on the ground. That is not what the ARW/ARU are for. How the fupp did we let the Defence forces get into this mess? I am not just blaming Simon Coveney, this is going back 20 years since they started reorganising budgets and trimming back the reserves.

We asked because the Government are, you know, leaders of the country and are in a much better position to advise as opposed to, off the top of my head, a joe soap on an Internet forum. We spoke with the HSE and we assured that it was safe to travel and no plans were in place to cancel or restrict travel. That was Monday night. I’m old enough to be perfectly capable of making my own decision on where I travel to and as a precaution I sought advice from the experts who know more about what’s going on than anyone else in the country.

So spare me your faux outrage and cut the crap. Oh and in case you’re wondering, we had a great time. Plenty of good food was had, I backed a few winners and enjoyed myself. Which, by the sounds of things, you should learn to do.

When the troubles calmed down they were no longer needed and also cash transit gigs were scrapped but only for big movements such as to or from the mint.

That's some mental gymnastics to deflect personal responsibility and justify your selfishness. When people around you, maybe even yourself, start losing elderly family members, or younger ones with health issues, you should think back about all the craic you and your friends had over in Cheltenham and about how it was all so worth it to be amongst the group of people who played a huge part in exacerbating the spreading of this virus which collapsed our healthcare system, ****ed up our medical professionals and put us into a recession

Look at Italy and how it spread over there before you even consider the thought that my reply is hyperbolic and overreacting

Its about an on organisation we need to assemble and organise in a very short period of time. There used to 15k reserves only 20 years ago now are there even 2k when we need them and the regulars are below 9k? What exactly did it cost to retain the RDF/FCA/Slua 20 years ago?

Cheltenham had been a hot topic of discussion for weeks beforehand with most sane people aghast that people would attend.

In fairness, most people I know were also telling anyone that went to a premiership match over the last couple of weeks that they were selfish arseholes too.

There was too much at stake. What's done is done now. Unfortunately we have to live with other people's bad decisions.

Like I said in my original post, I’ve not seen anyone since I returned Friday night. I listened to the experts before I left, I listened to the experts when I was in the UK and I will continue to listen to the experts. I refuse to take you, or anyone else criticising my decision seriously. On the brazzer remark, I don’t think I’d have gotten away with that one if I even contemplated it, which I wouldn’t (you wouldn’t know what you’d catch off one of them) considering I was wife with my wife’s two brothers.

Shame on you if that’s the opinion you have of people that go to Cheltenham. Like many, many others who I’ve had the displeasure of seeing ranting on Facebook and Twitter, you obviously haven’t got a clue. This, however, isn’t surprising me in the slightest.

"Faux" means fake. Why do people keep misusing it? Oh yeah, to downplay/gaslight/deflect/discredit.

If you think the "outrage" over a pandemic that killed 365 in one region of one country in 24 hours, is fake, then what on earth would it take for you to view outrage as genuine?

And if you think that poster's anger is due to simply not being able to enjoy themselves (no evidence of that) then you are not grasping the seriousness of this crisis.

It's done now but people are objecting because the UK did not have stringent measures in place and it's an event involving close contact with thousands, so the likelihood that this highly contagious virus has been brought into Ireland by attendees is high. No point in getting defensive and deflecting/denying. Own it. I find the inability from the Cheltenham attendees to take justifiable criticism very childish. Just admit ye made a risky decision and that's that.

No point in getting defensive and deflecting. Own it.

Are you going to berate the 20,000 Irish people who will return from Spain before the week is out? Have you voiced your displeasure at the several thousand who attended the Liverpool match on Wednesday night? I think not.

In the words of White Goodman - spare me.

    Regards,
    M

There was a confirmed case of Covid 19 on Monday the 9th but you still went, you maybe healthy and fit and the virus no issue to you, can you say the same of the people you have come in contact with since?

Nonsense.... Last week we were laughing about handshakes being banned, the severity to ordinary Joe public came apparent on Wednesday

You never heard of the virus in Wuhan before last week or what they were trying to surpress in Italy. Sonny, you would be better off reading the news than listening to the football results. BTW the stock market is collapsing and there is someone propping it up every 4th day. We are going to have a global meltdown by the end of the month, 30% will go off the value of your home and many blue chips are insolvent, just in case nobody warned you!

Of course I am. Why wouldn't I?

The persecution complex of the Cheltenham attendees knows no bounds.
