Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Was trying to figure out the toilet paper shortages myself last week. I came to the following conclusions.

    1. The toilet paper shortages are happening mainly because of Australia.
    2. People see Australian shortages and try to get ahead of that.
    3. Australia had reasons (not good reasons) to believe there would be a shortage (importing from China) so people stockpiled.
    4. There are people for whom stocking up on toilet paper makes sense (my parents want to avoid public transport during the crisis so are going to walk to and from a local shop {instead of getting a bus to a bigger shop}. Toilet paper is very annoying to carry when doing a large shop).
    5. People are idiots.
    6. If my shop is out of toilet paper I will find a shop selling toilet paper and stockpile because I don't want hassle of looking for it.

Toilet paper is made in Australia, not imported. I think the panic was caused be extensive media coverage of panic buying of TP in Hong Kong, which is where it started. In Australia, it also was likely due to many of Sino ethnicity descending on shops and buying up large quantities of TP, hand sanitezer and the usual baby forumula, vitamins and other supplements and posting tonnes of stuff back to their relatives in China, many of whom I suspect sold it for profit.

The Chinese in Australia do this on such a scale there have been nationwide shortages as supermarkets country wide have literally been cleaned out and they queue at the door at opening time and rush in as soon as it opens to empty the re-stocked shelves.

Anyone hear anything about public servants from other departments being redeployed to help out the HSE?

    Yes it is.

    They left on January 31st.

It was in news. A lot. Interminably.

So I assume the travel ban will come into play in the next day or two - UK/Ire just need to say we're on board as well

What about the hundreds of people that have to cross the border 2 or 3 times just to drive to the next town/doctor etc.

P.S Who is going to police the border cause I wouldnt fancy doing it

Fully accepted that policing would be hard but a considerable volume could still be reduced. This is about delaying infection, as nothing will fully prevent it. Our daughter and grandchildren are in NI and we visit every week. A directive to block travel would make the difficult decision not to see them somewhat easier - if nothing else it might help me convince my wife that we need to hold off on seeing them for a while. It may hammer home the message in NI as well, as they are being blindsided by their own government at the moment.

Shops may choose to shut but I don't think there'll be any new advice on it this week. Pharmacies, DIY, pet food, takeaways and the likes will probably still stay open if we get there.

Yes, but all agreements and arrangements stay in place until the end of the year. We are now in the messy divorce negotiation phase and all remains the same until that process concludes.

They needed to wave a few flags about and have a party, so they pretended to their public that they had left there and then.

    Yes it is.

    No it isn't.
The United Kingdom officially left the European Union on Friday, entering into a period of uncertainty after three years of bitter wrangling over Brexit and tense negotiations over the terms of divorce between London and Brussels.

The departure became official at 11 p.m. London time when the clock struck midnight in the Belgian capital, where the EU is headquartered. Thousands of Brexit supporters waving Union Jack flags gathered outside Parliament to celebrate the severing of the 47-year relationship.

spot on Coveney spouting 5hite about not being able to close the border as we are members of the EU at the same time Slovakia begin shutting up shop.
Now even Germany are shutting up shop and he is now spouting that you have as much chance of getting covid19 here as in Britain where there response is zero

As usual with FG they have had to be dragged kicking and screaming into making decisions. A decision a simple as closing pubs they were incapable of doing instead expecting some drunken tourists/stag parties to stand 2 metres apart and stop talking face to face after 15 mins in Templebar ffs

Surprised they didn't outsource the pub closures to the Citizens assembly

People still bulk buying, Tesco in Ardkeen Waterford, few people wearing gloves, no one covering their faces, Shelves - toilet paper is nearly all gone, mostly a few packs of small packs but if you have a mooch around there is a few large packs elsewhere.
Beef nearly all gone and veg the same.
One good thing at the tills they have a line and notice telling people queuing to stay behind it and people were give 6ft space

Work being redeployed their way primarily. Physical redeployment not being planned initially.
If you're a public or civil servant, this should have been relayed to you by now.

There will be a lag on seeing any impact.

It takes a few days for people to develop symptoms. Then they have to present themselves for testing and then the results have to come back.

i.e people getting a positive result back tomorrow, probably were infected say last Wednesday etc. Then on Thursday we'll have the ones from the previous Thursday etc.

Considering it takes up to 2 weeks for 95% of people infected to even show symptoms you won't see any flattening for a while but it will work. Italy acted too late and the cases are still climbing (hasn't been two weeks from lock down)

My super local dentist took me in this morning for emergency treatment , tooth repaired and pain gone . Was worried I wouldn’t get a dentist during this time , very grateful to her for helping me .

Just back from a 1 hour walk in the fields with the dog.
Feeling a lot better , stuck in the house was starting to get on me as I can imagine with everyone else .

I see that Dr Tony Holohan was saying that the next seven days are vital to flattening the curve which is true. The march 29th date wasn't a case of it all been sorted but if we can flatten the curve then we may see some light at the end of the tunnel.

Poster said gossip, not talk. There is a difference...

Example of talk - "Saw Ms Smith had a ambulance to her house. Hope she is OK. Hope is't not the Covid thing"

Example of Gossip - "Saw Ms Smith had a ambulance to her house. Heard that she has the Covid. Sure if she has if then your Jonny will have it. You need to get him and all his family up to A&E immediately. All 20 of them. Stay there and make a fuss until you are all tested"..
