Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It's lovely, has its place, we wouldn't be the emerald isle without it.

Confession : I like the way they say "this arvo" in " 'Straya"

Did childhood fairytales help shape your outlook or personality?

  • Registered Users Posts: 497 ✭✭antgal23

No, but Mick Dundee did ;)

    Picasso or Goya?

No. My childhood had far too much reality that I've been trying to undo the harm from since.
Goya! Them's my kind of fairy tales.

What about you (to either question)?

Did Mick Dundee not inspire you fight crocs and carry a huge knife?

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,633 ✭✭✭✭Widdershins

How did his wife Susan keep getting younger? One of the prettiest women in the world imo.

Edit: fairytales were part of my training, Sardonicat. I had a peculiar childhood.

I was married to a Mick Dundee, not all they're cracked up to be. Maybe he was a pseudo Mick.

"THAT'S a knife". Someday I'm going to get to say that line.

Do you like work boots on men? Ha!

Yes. I like boots of all kinds on both sexes (should that be 'all genders"?)

Don't laugh: Who the fug is Mick Dundee?

Right, this New York journalist is sent to interview an outback Australian crocodile wrestling hick. She's engaged to a slimy wall street accountant or similar. She ends up being woo'd away from captain cardboard at the 11th hour by salt-of-the-earth Mick. Worth watching the 1st one at least. It's quite sweet. At least for the scene in the subway station. Even my black heart was warmed.

    Boots are brilliant.

On a practical note they're better for your joints (so geriatric lol)

    Question: Are you politically correct?

    Crocodile Dundee? No thanks.

I don't think so. I don't go out of my way to offend people and I'm generally live and let live but I speak as I find and if I think someone's full if sh1t I've no problem letting them know before instructing them to jog on.

Would that rub you up the wrong way?

Probably some bullsh1t social media influencer.
Do you care what's politically correct or do you say it as you see it ?

I say it as I see it but I believe in being kind. Edit: very politically 'incorrect' people actually make me smile these days. It can be refreshing.

Same question (although it seems obvious)

I think political correctness is mostly a good thing. I like that being openly racist or sexist is considered unacceptable these days.

Does that make sense to you?

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,633 ✭✭✭✭Widdershins

It makes perfect sense, but sometimes PC can be senseless and lose sight of the original sentiment. The intent is good, though.

Do you know the names of cloud formations and canyou speak Irish (because I can't anymore and one that always comes back to me is scamaill)

  • Registered Users Posts: 497 ✭✭antgal23

I remember learning about types of clouds but not cloud formation

My Irish teacher was not great, did an online course last summer, would like to go to Glenculmcille for immersion course

Are cloud formations and types of cloud different?

Yes, I thought afterwards, that is within the bounds of possibility.

I don't.i cook typically fried food in the oven but I was just thinking of buying one this morning as it takes a million years to oven cook.

Do you think people have been too cut off from our hunter gatherer instincts by modern life?

Only 9% of those who participated in a YouGov survey wanted life to return to normal after the pandemic. Why?

Verisimilitude, and authoritive vs authoritative, and reorient vs reorientate or just orientate

    Dispatch vs despatch

Is there still a part of you that wants to live?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,328 ✭✭✭Upforthematch

Bit of Zoomin' that's about it.

Edit: Still want to live? Ah sure, the alternative doesn't look very attractive!

Ah the selchies - the amazing seals that morph into people and attract the good looking people of Scotland and North West of Ireland to join them.... under the sea.... cue the disney music....

    Favourite disney film?

It's just a lyric for a Seal song, Widders! I was punning to an audience too young to get it, it seems.
