Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Why such difference in speed between 2 tests?

I am having a bit of a dispute with my wireless broadband provider over slow speeds.

They have done a bit of work to improve it and I was presenting them with Ookla Speedtest results to prove how bad it was.

They asked me to use nPerf instead, claiming it was more reliable and removed the interference from Bluetooth etc.

I am now getting 2 vastly different results.

The former is giving me half the download speeds that are showing on nPerf. I'm confused as to which speeds I am actually getting.

I use Ookla, and found that if I enable location on my tablet, the download speed drops dramatically - withlocation off, I was getting results approx 13meg, with location on, it reduced to about 2meg.

    Might explain your difference?

Having ongoing problems with VF network ( siro)
Advised by VF use speeedtest.net,did and ookla and 3 others, all give different speeds, but find ookla to give the most stable( tested on 2 phones, and 2 tablets ( wifi)

they probably have a response node on there own network which proves they are delivering the speed along your connection, unfortunately if there connectivity into the rest of the internet is overloaded then you would see a slowdown once you get out of their network

If you click on "Change Server" before you press GO
you will be able to choose which of the nearby servers you wish to use.
Varying the server will give you a range of results.

(You may not see the "Change Server" option until after your first speedtest)

They did say they checked over the last couple of weeks and I was able to get the full 20meg I'm paying for all the time.

Now I assume other things can 'get in the way' of the signal and lower what I'm getting?

But when one test shows 8 and another 16, how do I know what I'm actually getting?

My main concern is the fact I use iptv and often get buffering issues, and if I was to get what they promise (always minimum 15meg) then there should be no buffering..

This is the problem. 5L of Cola is 5L of Cola. 5Mb of broadband is well, complex.

I get 240Mb from VM. Do I expect 240Mb between me and New Zealand? Or me and Hawaii? Nope. 240Mb between me and Stillorgan/Tallaght. Thats it. Now their tier 1 (LG is huge) is fairly good so if I want 240Mb to Akamai or AWS I've got it.

If your ISP is a small regional they might just peer in one location with a few others. Technically you're getting what you're paying for, its just not much use. But one complaint won't make them outlay a few hundred K for some dark fiber.
