Walkers need to move as well, make room for each other

2 runners force me off the path in the park early this morning. They refused to go in to a single line, I ran onto the grass and told the mrs and mr knobs where to go.

    Idiots everywhere

just presume their all idiots and get/stay outta the way.
I got beeped by a car for running on the road, still didn't move back on the path until I was clear of the idiots 4 abreast on the path.

Whats doing my head is, idiots with dogs. where I live there is a sports field with a grass track around it (it was put there for running and used by the club).
Before lockdown you would regularly arrive to train 40 kids with at least 1 idiot with a dog loose. These days, pick the wrong time and there could be more dogs than humans. The dickheadest thing about it , there is about 100acres of land surrounding it with plenty of tracks to walk on.

I’m getting hello’s from walkers who gave you dirty looks a few weeks ago. See them nearly every day I’m out

People are sick of runners not social distancing apparently?

Last time I checked, social distancing applies to everyone, it's not just on runners to keep the space!

I think everyone is a bit on edge, so I understand the hostility even if I don't agree with it. Runners are out all year round, I suspect the majority of the walkers and pram pushers that are complaining aren't out as much. I think it's great people are getting out more and showing a good example to their kids. If we get a few wet weeks again we'll see less of these type of stories. Chill out a bit everyone enjoy the sunshine, we'll get though this. These type of stories are prime click bait, better to ignore them than fanning the flame.

I would previously have coughed or found noisier gravel parts of the path or puddles to splash through noisily when going along trails to more gently warn groups of my approach. Saying anything out loud always makes them jump.

I've had to take coughing out of my repertoire of noises now though as that would probably make them jump even more these days. Might have to work on loud farts on demand instead, but that's always a risky move.

LOL, like you I used to clear my throat when coming from behind people in the good old days, now I clap or kick the gravel if there's any.

Don't get me started on dog owners, they're a fcking scourge. Every second turn, dog on the loose, I give a wide berth but I have zero tolerance for the owners and they will get an fierce earful if they interfere with my run, this has built up over years of interference/disruption because of dunderheads.

As for walkers I was actively avoiding people, maintaining social distance but one arsehole just had to walk towards me for no apparent reason and encroach on my personal space even though he had the whole path to avoid me so I told him to socially distance, he had a zombified expression of stupidity.

The worst are families who take up entire paths which puts everyone at a disadvantage, not just runners, and cyclists who for some reason have to go up right behind you and breathe on you rather than using the path to give a wide berth.

Dublin Parks recommending stay away between 12-5 as too packed. Might be an idea for us runners to stay away in those hours

I done 16km yesterday and never met a single person, it was grand to be honest.

Have to try and keep fit with the gyms closed.

Looks like everyone's at fault but yourself and you're really not enjoying your runs. Try 6am or 8pm when kids are asleep and families aren't out and about yet.

On the dog thing, just watch your step and who you're mouthing off to, a lot of parks operate off leash times during certain hours. Check your bylaws.

I'd a lovely 3 x 1mile session this morning at 0730. Up and down a stretch of ~5m wide path along a carriageway.

Didn't quite have the place to myself, but lots of space. And anybody else I came across was thoroughly polite and we all silently cooperated to maintain social distancing. There were people on bikes, people with dogs and people running.

no real point to this other than just throwing some balance in this thread.

Them bylaws are old and outdated I say and they should have a rule if off lease should require a muzzle. Who's at fault if a dog does bite someone? Law says it is fine for a dog to roam free.

Don't see why people would run between 10-7

They're a good idea. Dogs need to be socialised, exercised and trained off lead. Without off lead training you'd have crazy dogs.

Depends on the situation. I've seen a dog bite someone of the foot that was trying to kick it. How many times have you been bitten? Never I'd imagine, as you'd have mentioned it by now.

? To avoid walkers, families, dogs & cyclists... what you were complaining about. People basically.

I have to because I work 5-2, can't do mornings or nights, most days I get put off going out after seeing the crowds out as I walk home from work

Where I am they must be on leads but half the owners ignore this, I don't mind it if the dog is behaved but I have berated irresponsible owners for 12 years now and take some pleasure in it too because they get what they deserve, if their dog threatens me they will know about it fast. As for people ignoring social distancing, they MUST be held accountable, there must be zero tolerance for their actions.

Where? There is no obligation to keep dogs on leads in the vast majority of places in Ireland.

Of course I'm not going to state where, however dog laws really need to be vastly more stringent in Ireland.

I'm not asking for your address, but a general area. Your public street for example I doubt has such a law, nor your general area. I suspect you may misundertand the existing by-laws.

And there's no issues with dog control in Ireland that it requires more stringent laws, if anything those that are there need relaxing in certain areas.

They were tightened up where I am because owners were getting out of hand. Dog barking is another area I'd say you should be able to make complaints about and the owners could face big financial penalties.

If you're in Ireland, I don't think they have for the general public areas. But you're not providing us with much information to back up your claims, not even the laws you're referring to.

Where does it state its fine for a dog to roam free? Under the Control of Dogs Act, you can receive a on the spot fine if your dog is not under proper control.

there are a fairly limited number of parks with areas specifically for dogs (ardgillan, deerpark, im sure there are others), other than that nothing other than the law.
You do not necessarily have to have a dog on a lead.

'Your dog must be under your effective control, or the control of another responsible person, if it is outside your home or premises, or the home or premises of the person in charge of it. You are liable for injury or damage caused by your dog to people or livestock'

    https://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/environment/animal_welfare_and_control/control_of_dogs.html

Private football pitches, sports ground do not allow dogs. Public parks will have specific bylaws relating to dogs (most have notices to keep dogs on leads etc)

Don't get me started on the ****e!

There is an obligation to keep a dog on a lead in many places and many situations in Ireland within OPW facilities, parks. The OPW have published such guidelines.

And that's the law that a lot of people seem to misunderstand, effective control does not equate to a mandatory lead.

I doubt he lives and spends all his time within OPW facilities.

The issue with dogs in public places, such as parks and playgrounds is not just about dogs biting. It is running after deer, kids and causing dangerous situations. I have never been bitten my a dog but have been tripped up and knocked over by dogs in parks on numerous occasions when running and have had injuries as a result. Have seen some really irresponsible behaviour of dog owners letting them chase animals in confined parks. It’s a cause of deer getting injured and even killed in the Phoenix Park at times.
