Any house I've seen has this thing called a "letterbox"

It's usually a small rectangle hole in the door or beside the door.

    Sometimes it's a box on it's own.

OP may not have heard of it, but maybe check your front door and you'll see it.

This means that the post person can simply pop the card in without making contact.

Why oh why do some people look for negative angles on even the most positive of ideas??????

so the postman magically inserts the post in your letter box without touching the post and those bristles in your letter box actually decontaminate any possible virus off the postcards

you are part of the problem

My mother is getting a photo of a happy mother’s day card sent to her phone. That’s it, there’ll be other mothers days.

    That's utter rubbish.

It's spouted out by certain politicians and usually always when they want to whine about something.

There is huge community spirit in rural areas - even more so at present.

I live in a rural area, and I come from a rural area and city folk have zero understanding how rural life works.

It's not rubbish in fact it's very true, you are lucky in your community but not every community is like yours.

    Please remember this

    Well meaning money wasting bollocks.

Just about every one has either a mobile or landline or both. Most people have internet, this is a redundant idea from the last century.

Risk aside, they'll be good souvenirs.

I'll put them next to my iodine tablets.

Keep a mask and a pair of gloves too.

People, you cannot get it through your skin!!!!

If you are very worried and handle something that someone else has handled without gloves, then wash your hands immediately and properly, before you touch your face.

If your post man uses the letter box, clean it afterwards. It's not hard, it's only once a day.
You should be cleaning all touchable surfaces everyday anyway (door handles, taps etc)

People forget and touch their face no matter how conscious they are.

If the solution was just don't touch your face we would all be virtually immune.

The 10 million this is costing could have done much better in the health service.

With all the people blowing about Mental Health (like that’s really important in all this), you think they’d be happy with a bit of cheer being spread among family. Can’t win.

Why would card instead of a text spread cheer?

Hse are posting a flyer this week to every house in the country, even if you have a "no junk mail" sign.

It is a ridiculous virtue signalling stupid irresponsible idea. Whoever thought it up wants sacked. Waste or resources, waste of staff, waste of the environment and total scarlet.
Give people two free stamps. Not shiny ink bits of cardboard generic crap that signals towards care. ffs

Wait 1-2 days to spread cheer?
    Fcuk that.

If you want to do something useful, An Post have a mobile division, right? Connect up the minority of people who don't have mobiles with simple, cheap ones and free credit, no need giving every fcuking household cards they're likely not going to use.

Ffs, if you're that paranoid leave the post on the floor overnight before picking it up, or do what every sensible person is doing after touching something a third party has touched and use these things called soap and water. What do you do when you bring groceries home?

Numerous times I have been the only person people have spoken to in a week
A five minute chat is not a hardship to most.
Last week elderly couple one with dementia I moved the wheelie bins out
All of five minuets’ no hard ship on my part just courtesy and empathy

    Fair play.

Don't you mean an anti-viral spray?

How does it go on egg-boxes and packets made of paper?
