Foreign bank account charges-never used account

    Hi Everyone,

As the thread suggests, I have received what is effectively a bill for a bank account in Spain which I have never used.

I opened it in 2016 for a job I was scheduled to start but subsequently did not. I never thought much of until I received statement yesterday saying that the charges were now 200e. Quarterly fees building up or what have you. It's with Sabadell.

Not a huge amount I know but I am currently on unpaid leave due current situation so every bit helps.

Basically wondering if I can ignore this or should I write to them and tell them I will not be paying it? Find it very frustrating.

    Any help appreciated.

Thanks and good luck to everyone.

did you agree to the fees and charges when you set up the account?

perhaps see if you can agree a payment plan with them if money is tight

You opened the account and are subject to the terms of that agreement... so claiming you did not use it is not an option.

No idea what they would do if you do not pay... probably not a lot right now. But you never know how it would jump up and bit you later, a bit like all those unpaid driving offences that started appearing on the Schengen system when people's passports are scanned...

I'd say give then call and explain the situation and see what happens.

They may refund if you agree to close the account - ask them.
