America is getting screwed, they only get the 250 page art book and special packaging. Whereas we in Europe get the same art book, but also a sound selection vinyl, a poster, and a steelbook.

This is an amazing game on Wii. Many remasters or ports call themselves the "Definitive Edition", but this is one truly deserving of the moniker.

The music in Xenoblade Chronicles is some of the best you will ever hear. It's soundtrack is one of my favourites, if not of all-time. Gaur Plains is etched on my brain forever. Stick on a pair of headphones and enjoy.

Is the combat system as bewildering as XC2?? I gave up on that game as I simply couldn't get to grips with it and ended up mashing buttons!!

I started this on the Wii U but I remember thinking "this is gonna be a huge time investment" and I was doing a masters so I think I got about 3 hours into it and left it. Might be something for my switch lite though.....

Pretty much sums up my experience with the Xenoblade franchise.
Looks stunning, the whole lot of them, but the combat is just too confusing and feels like work, not fun.
I own the lot of them and they all gather dust.
Just give me a goddamn real-time combat system!

The trailer shows one of the things I dislike about jrpgs and that's the fact you're hitting the opponent but it shows as a miss. I've got this on Wii and, I think, Wii U. Then have Xenoblade Chronicles X as well.
Some day I'll play them. Maybe.

Still have the original Wii collectors edition gathering dust in a cupboard. Tried it via the rerelease on WiiU and the sequels, just can't get into them. But I always get caught up on the hype all the same

There's no need for button mashing whatsoever and timing is crucial at certain points in performing attacks. I wouldn't call the combat turn based. And some of your attacks missing is because the enemies are evading you. It happens with higher level enemies than what you're currently at. And it works the opposite way as well. You need to give it a proper chance and learn some of the basic ropes, you'll pick up more as you go along. Raising affinity between your characters helps as well. There's so much to do. I haven't played it years myself, but the crafting of gems is great fun.

It's pretty much the best JRPG outside of the Shin Megami Tensei series in years. And the battle system is excellent. Basically you just wait for the right moment to fire off special attacks and if you line it up right you inflict status debuffs on enemies.

Monolith Soft discusses how much of Xenoblade’s graphics were redone for Definitive Edition

The original game was on the Wii in standard definition. Could you tell us about how you’ve upgraded the visuals and assets to HD in this remaster?

Takahashi: It goes without saying, but considering we had restrictions like production costs and time, we couldn’t remake everything. So we started off with deciding what we would remake and what we would not. Specifically, we went as far as upconverting the textures and adding shader textures for the enemies and maps. Then we remade things like the main and important characters’ faces and hands, the new equipment in the Definitive Edition, the Monado, the facial animations during cutscenes and scripted events, and so on. Even though we divided things up like this, before long, each member of the team began showing their passion and abilities, so we wound up incidentally touching things up like NPCs and enemies that we didn’t intend on changing initially. There’s some things that couldn’t be completely remade, of course, but I hope players enjoy looking for all the differences in the game.

It should be fine to play, I don’t remember it being spectacular the first time - Dragon Quest XI and Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana are much better games imo.

You are likely to find the battle system fairly bewildering!! I’ve played a fair few JRPG’s over the years and I couldn’t get on with the battle system of XC2. If this game is similar well...

Try Dragon Quest XI as a starter game for a JPRG. It’s probably one of the best games in the genre ever.

No, you won't crash and burn. Xenoblade Chronicles IS a spectacular game. The game has a great combat system, there's a little bit of learning, but it's not rocket science. Also, if you're struggling...
