It must be amazing if you are willing to do an hour round trip! Would the food not be cold by the time you get home?

Eat it outside in the car?

If there are very few closer to here than where you love, then obviously that would be ok. But if you pass 6 to get to it then that looks a bit dodgy.

There are none closer. Just wanted to see the consensus, I mean they are open and they're allowed.

    Question for the masses:

We have gone Sale Agreed on a house....currently renting and living in Cork and are buying in Cork - using Solicitors in Waterford that have been family solicitors for years (don't need to be told should have used local solicitors ;-))

We need to sign contracts and mortgage papers - obviously Waterford is more than 2kms away from Cork....I really do not want to make a journey that is not necessary - however, we need to close contracts and commence moving in. Notice is already handed into the landlord a few weeks back, before this all really kicked off.

Question is would this be deemed essential travel? Genuine questions as we are not sure how long the lockdown will continue for....I;m thinking of waiting until after 12th April to sign anyway, but if the lockdown continues beyond that (inevitable really), then the pressure will seriously be on to move into the new house.

Or alternatively, does anyone know of a mechanism where you can use a 3rd party local solicitor without having to pay more fees.....(tried our solicitor on that today, but they are working remotely and hard to get hold of at the moment)

I live approx 30 mins from a takeaway place, am I allowed to travel to collect an order? I know food places are allowed to stay open for takeaway and delivery but what's the consensus on travelling for this? Thanks.
Do you know if there will be big queues outside? I see plenty of complaints about chippers on facebook. I think its against the spirit of the rules which I believe was to allow people to drive to supermarkets outside of 2km. Some of the official tweets and guidelines say "essential food".

Somebody driving out miles to Howth for fish n chips, or Teddys in dun laoghaire for a 99 is certainly against the intention of the rules, and exploiting them. It is not what they set out to have happening, it just happens to technically fall under the rules, just as I do not think they intended some guy who just turned 70 is not allowed leave his house without a single person in a 5 mile radius.

If the takeaway is struggling for business it would also be a factor, you are helping a business survive, but many are doing a roaring trade with punters lined up outside.

Surely people are not currently driving to Howth for fish and chips?

No there won't be. It would be a case of, I ring, tell them the time I'd be there and it would be ready for then.

I hope not, I was just throwing out hypothetical ones which somebody might argue are within the rules.

Well going on how people have behaved in the recent past you can be sure some people are doing exactly that.

That might fall under 'For vital family reasons, such as providing care to children, elderly or vulnerable people', if say the cheques were needed financially for family.

Well, they're lodged and with absolutely zero contact with anyone. Went to ATM - took appropriate steps to avoid contact with keypad and then used alcohol hand sanitiser and just got out of car when there was nobody at the machine. So, done without any risk to anyone.

You should be able to do this by video signing of and scanned copies and return electronically.

    Solicitors are already doing this.

Thank you - I'll have somewhere to start with this. I thought solicitors were slow to come into 2020 with electronic signing - hopefully that is an option! Cheers

few extra people out and about cycling and running today down our road.

People need to exercise, I think this is where the 2km thing fails a bit as you will probably see a much higher concentration on someplaces...i.e. round where all those apartments or housing estates are. Normally a runner would go out and travel 3-2- km all over the place, but now up and down the same few streets.

(unless you are in a remote area?)

No I'm in a remote area. No next door neighbour only fields and I now can't leave my house for a walk without coming into contact with far more people than normal. It wasn't like this before the 2km rule came in.

Out of interest, how far until you hit a concentration of population?

There is risk of infecting someone or picking up infection while out cycling or exercising on your own is incredibly tiny if not non existent assuming no human contact is made. You do know how it spreads right? People exercising in isolation isn’t an issue

Also exercise is an essential part of mental well being in times like this.

I wish someone would tell the cyclists about the 2m distancing. On my 45mins walk 7 cyclists went by. 5 we're only CMs from me, almost running me over.

Only 1.5km so not that remote but people normally don't even walk this road as it's considered dangerous. Not so dangerous now with few cars.

I've bumped into a number of people that I know on a river side walk I like to do. Normally don't see anyone at all there.
But it is a nice place for a walk so it makes sense that people who don't normally walk for exercise would use it at the moment.

Many reports of cars still doing close punishment passes on cyclists even on large empty roads. I don't think the mode of transport determines if a person is a asshole or not.

Ye- and also - the 2km rule is forcing lots of people to remain withing a tighter circle.

    I wouldn't have thought so.

I theory, yes - take-out only, obviously - but in practice most seem to be closed, either because they can't operate safely or more likely the lack of business with so few people out and about.

They can, but as said most have closed
    Essential retail outlets

thats what I thought too, but they are selling well! They do not say the weight of the meat so hard to figure out, but you can definitely beat a fiver a pop.

there was a video of loads of boxes

I thought it would be better for them to cook them and give reheat instructions, and then make the rest. They can be cooked in a different way which results in better reheating.

Dont get the point of this at all. I love burgers + am really missing them at the moment. The whole point of ones you get in places that specialise in burgers is the way they cook them. It just cant be created at home!

I have got some lovely meat from local butchers + made my own but it's just not the same.

If anything they're better tbh I find, much nicer when you mix your own sauces etc. Really does depend on the burger itself - make your own, mix in a little beef stock cube and boom!

Bujo do them over flames, but most other places like Wow, Bunsen and most other speciality places do the smash technique, which can be done at home. There are videos on youtube in lots of these places showing all the tricks/methods

Back on topic I see FAR less elderly people out today & yesterday on my road, still a few though.
