Has there been any clarity on what types of retail premises can reopen on the 8th June. Mine is a small , street level shop with only one door, at the front, selling non essential items.

I would expect yours is included,

"Small retail outlets with small number of staff on basis that the retailer can control number of individuals that staff and customers interact with at any one time"

With these non essential businesses opening does that mean non essential journeys will be permissible from the same date.
And will that be from the 18th of this month or the 8th of next month.

Not exactly a restriction question but not sure which thread to put this in.
Can any person confirm or deny for me if factories and supermarkets are getting grants for opening during the pandemic and what this entails?
I've had a housemate adamant that all Frontline companies, factories shops etc are getting grants to cover all extra costs the business may have?
Is this possible? How can it be policed?

Nope. That's a bizarre claim. Unless they mean the Covid-19 Wage Subsidy Scheme, which many (not all) employers would be able to avail of. https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/612b90-covid-19-information-for-employers/

You can usually shut these people up by suggesting extreme examples. If somebody paid €100,000 for a bottle of sanitiser do they think they would be accepted as an "extra cost". The owner could have a receipt and everything, bought it from a mate of his.

Since the pubs are closed I wonder if he heard if from a "bloke on zoom"

Can someone clarify the lifting of restrictions around socialising on the 18th... Says it will be possible to meet up to 4 people outdoors? Fairly clear if it’s up to 4 adults meeting , but what about if you are a family with 4 young kids (like me). Can I meet up with other adults or families? Does a family count as One “unit” in these circumstances?

I believe that is only for some limited sports actievities and they have not listed which sports yet.

“It will also be possible to meet up to four friends and family from other households outdoors while maintaining strict social distancing“

Taken from rte website and also listed in government roadmap

I’ve been wondering about this too. I read that, and thought, “oh great, my brother or my mother could call over, we could sit on the patio and have a chat”. But it also says nobody should make a non-essential journey still. So a small social gathering of less than 4 people from outside the household is quite non-essential? It’s a bit contradictory

Yes I do hope there is more clarification on the changes for the 18th, it's still very unclear.
Garden centres will open but maintaining my gardan is far from essential. So how can I make an essential journey to buy non essential items from a garden centre. Why would it be open if I can't go there.

I took it as meaning those sorts of outdoor gatherings of friends/neighbours/family that have been going on all along! Coffee/wine on the street kinda things.

Can anyone clarify if monumental works will be back open on the 18th? I assume they will as it’s outside work. I want to get a headstone and some curbing around a grave done. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Yes. But can you only have these gatherings if you live within 5km and can walk there and call it exercise?

I need to get a kitchen appliance which broke tonight replaced as a relative emergency - it looks like most Expert stores provide ‘an emergency service’, which I assume is a pre-pay/contactless collection, is that correct?
All the other large electrical shops (Harvey norman, DiD etc) are only doing delivery, and they’ll be open on the 18th by the time the delivery would arrive.
    Thanks

Some are "open" already for online purchases and are doing deliveries, so you'd have it for the 18th. I ordered some electrical stuff from Harvey Norman that I'm expecting tomorrow.

I would assume they will, too. My job has building work that's been postponed but we've been told the external work will resume on the 18th.

They’re all open for online purchases, but delivery times are long.
I’ll call the number for Expert Drogheda tomorrow and see. It says to call if you need something in an emergency.

It is quite confusing, isn't it. I presume this is down to preparing documents in haste, but I was wondering exactly that - if I'm only supposed to go on essential journeys (work, essential purchases such as food and meds, medical requirement), then how do I go about making a non-essential trip to buy paint or garden furniture?

Hopefully they revise those guidelines and offer more clarity.

Whether them removing the word "essential" from "essential travel", or clarifying that certain shops can open but it's online only and deliveries is the better solution in the long term, I don't know.

We do need some circulation back in the economy, but we don't need jackasses driving half way across the country for totally spurious reasons, either.

I'm going to take the "possible to meet up to four friends and family from other households outdoors" as yes, I can stick on the barbecue if the weather is like it has been this past week, and we can invite another couple over, staying out in the garden. Realistically our average-sized suburban back garden can't actually fit more than 6 people, assuming 2m social distancing between couples!

And if they need to use the loo, they can use the downstairs one and we'll spray Dettol after, I guess?

The Gardas extra powers (or whatever they’re called), were only extended until the 18th also. Maybe after that they’ll be gone off the roads and we’re supposed to use our own cop on? That’s crazy though. So many people have none :(

Yes it is starting to look like that from the 18th non-esential journys will be premittted.
The main focus will then be on shops and offices that are starting to reopen will adhere to the guidelines.

Not sure how you can think that based on Phase 1?
They have to enter your property to use the toilet, then there is possibility for them to be touching surfaces and utensils in your property.

I think you should be waiting for Phase 2 at least:
Up to 4 people may visit another household for a short period of time but everyone must keep at least 2 metres apart from people they don't live with.

Glad to hear I’m not the only one confused by all this! I Have had friends (with kids) talking about meeting up with us and our kids for barbecue etc but had been wondering how it would work with toilets and also the maximum 4 people issue . Never mind trying to get kids to maintain social distancing. I think some people are going to take guidelines more seriously than others or just interpret them differently.

    I took it as:

May the 18th - Up to 4 people can meet somewhere outside of a house-hold (which means not the garden either) in, for example, a park. It won't have to be for exercise (you could count walking I guess) and you could drive there, if it's within 5k.

Mid June - You can now meet in the house-hold and there can be more than 4. That allows you to have a family BBQ. Since it permits people inside the house too, you can have them use the toilet.

No doubt at all though that people will have others over to their houses, as they do already, and maintain social distancing.

    Do what ever you want.

Just because you have friends who want to come over to your house doesn't mean you have to agree.

I think most people will see what the guidelines are, arbitrary guess work and will make their own minds up.

Re-reading this, yes, you're right. It'll just be neighbours we have around, so - ones who live close enough that they can run home for a loo break :)

Saw a couple of NVD trucks today delivering new cars to garages, is this allowed under the essential services list?

I just heard on radio today that there is no date for car sales showrooms to reopen hence the question.

If I can order pointless carp from Amazon and have the postal service or courier deliver it I don't see why they wouldn't be able to take in new stock for cars.
Dealers are still selling cars online.

They would be, I'd say? Your place of business can be open to the public and carrying out essential preparations (accounts, taking in new stock, setting up sanitiser stations, even taking in your supplies of sanitiser), and just not open yet to the public.

Heard garage owners on the radio news yesterday talking about re-opening in June (presumably from the 8th) as they can easily practice social distancing, they're just looking for the go-ahead.

    So they can? Definitively?

I have a very specific question and sadly I’m fairly sure the answer is July 20th but want to be sure

My wife has not seen her mother since March. She lives 30 km away in Galway city
She is hoping to see her at start of phase 2 June 8th. This also happens to be around the time of her birthday so she was very happy .
I broke the bad news to her earlier but I’m hoping I’m wrong

I think we are 10k too far away and it will be end of July which will be very tough on her . Her mother is in her early 60s
