I was in Ballinastoe on saturday. Lad in the rental hut said Expressway should be back open this weekend.

They're also in the process of marking out a new loop so things must be happening regarding that money.
A few more techy trails would be nice to keep the varying abilities more segregated.

Yea it's defo needed, I mean look at the amount of "unofficial" trails being built around the various Coillte ones, it just goes to prove that they need to build trails for the more experienced MTB'ers.

The massive success of "The Gap" and their new jump trail really shows that there's a demand for trails that skilled riders will use.
"Narrow fireroad" trailcentre stuff with a few berms thrown in just don't cut it for regulars, fine for anyone who rents a bike once in a blue moon though.

One thing thats for sure is the glacial pace that Coillte build trails in the country. Considering when Ticknock and Ballinastoe were built 10 odd years ago they were supposed to the start of a much bigger trail network. Even that news link is 16 months old and we're only starting to see survey markers in Ballinastoe now. Sleive blooms and Collaney also seem to be progressing at a very slow pass.

    Glacial is the word!

5 years ago+ the work on this all started! It will be done in small 5-10km packages starting in Coolaney. Lets hope the massive failings of the first phase are corrected.
In regards to providing anything like GAP. it's not gonna happen. As good as the GAP and facilities like it are, It is now a way for public bodies to say "well that market is now catered for"
You could write a book with the goings on...

If you like your more natural, techy rooty rocky trails. aka real mountain biking ;) well I have come to accept that all these will be are easy access to better trails and some winter training away from slop.

It is the sad reality so far....

It’s depressing when you see how quickly a bunch of bodies can put a trail together, there’s probably been more trail building done in ticknock over lockdown compared to what coillte have been doing for years

Slieve Blooms trails were basically built twice, once by Coillte's preferred contractor and then rebuilt properly by the bikepark Ireland lads.

Wish they would do the same in Coolaney

fingers crossed the contractor for phase 2 has an iota of a notion what they are doing unlike phase 1!
