Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Soul Patrol. Groundbreaking tag team.

Cowboy Bob and Rowdy Roddy Piper. Original Wrestlemania-1 gangstas! Some of us old enough to have watched the first Wrestlemania live on PPV!

Agreed with this. Though not old enough really:P

Still best team in it by far

Did I miss Hurricane and Rosey??

They formed after 2000 so weren't included I'm afraid.

Well 35 years ago today it was an 1hr and 12 minutes away from starting.

Time is up and we have a draw between Soul Patrol and the tandem of Orton/Piper. A per the rules, deciding vote lies with the OP so I'm gonna go for Soul Patrol's Rocky Johnson and Tony Atlas. Ground breaking, as mentioned above, being a decent reason but also would consider Cowboy Bob and Roddy Piper more as singles stars.

That concludes the first round of action. We should be seeing tighter matches in the next stage of the contest. Hopefully you can stick around!

We stick with 5 votes and 45 minutes for Round 2 matches. I do expect some closer battles here. Let's see what the random draw gave us for the opening bout...

    T & A

Demolition great team and good characters

T & A mainly for Trish but also cos I liked them a lot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,963 ✭✭✭Dr Turk Turkelton

Demolition for me as well for the same reasons ad Salmocab.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,366 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

Demolition and it's not close of a call. Bill eadie or ax is a hall of fame talent by any metric while smash or Barry darsow is no slouch either.

While I prefer T & A, Demolition are the better tag team.

It's quite easy to be objective.

Tits & A...... I mean T&A for two big reasons

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,090 ✭✭✭wrestlemaniac

Demolition are the better team but I enjoyed T n A more, so Trish and the boys get my vote

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,366 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

also most people might remember Barry darsow as the repo man in WWF after him being in demolition. Hes from the wrestling Mecca of robinsdale, Minnesota which is home to kurt hennig, rick rude, tom zenk, John nord who was the bezerker, and Nikita koloff amongst others.

This is to decide your favorite tag team so don't feel bad if you vote for one you just happened to like better! It's all good.

Ah I'm gonna stick to voting for the better tag team, chief.

I couldn't in good conscience end up in a scenario where I'm voting for The Bodydonnas over Tully & Arn.

He can't, it's a slippery slope, he will be voting for The Bodydonnas next

That was a lot closer than I would have thought! Demolition squeak through. This could be more one sided perhaps.

    Midnight Express, top team tbf.

Powers of Pain, not so much.

The Midnights book their spot in Round 3. The following is an all-WCW affair for your consideration.

Im going for The Hollywood Blondes in this close match.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 52,215 Mod ✭✭✭✭Necro

Harlem Heat in this one for me. Austin with hair is weird.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,090 ✭✭✭wrestlemaniac

Harlem Heat, but as has been said, a close one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,366 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

Hollywood blondes who as a team were better wrestlers overall than booker and stevie ray. Also this was great mat wrestling Austin and pillman was still mobile in 1992 and 1993.

Foreign Legion as my feelings of 'meh' for Davey Boy raise their ugly heads again.

Liked both but foreign legion as I do like heels

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,865 ✭✭✭✭Igotadose

Foreign Legion! Russia... Number One... Iran...Number One. USA... Acch, pthui! (to quote the Iron Sheikh!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,366 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

Foreign Legion for me. I mean they did nothing amazing but they did the simple things well. I mean this day 35 years ago they competed for the tag titles and did a great job and it's my favourite match of wrestlemania 1 bar the main event.

The singing the soviet anthem in MSG in the 1980's was a simple thing but it got great heat. Also having the Hollywood fashion plate Freddie blassie in your corner helps.

Great memory. Mine not so good - just a few grams of marijuana, but in 1987 enough to get arrested.
