Apologies if this has been discussed already but has there been a shift in the narrative this evening given that:

-numbers currently in ICU are now being given when previously only the cumulative (more dramatic) figures were given.

-The numbers appear to be still well under the ICU bed figures of 255, 350, 500, 1000 (take your pick) that are quoted.

-The majority of people who died did not do so in the ICU.

-Dr Holohan has talked about how empty St James' Hospital is and advised people not to avoid attending hospital if they feel they have something serious wrong with them.

-Anecdotally, in the last few weeks, I have heard of people with potentially serious conditions being discouraged from attending hospital in anticipation of the Covid-19 surge.

Putting all of this together, I wonder is there a fear that the baby has been thrown out with the bathwater - has there been an over zealous clearout of hospitals or an over zealous reaction by the general public.

I wonder have nursing home patients with Covid-19 been turned away from hospital and sent back to their homes, effectively to die, for fear of them taking up a bed in anticipation of a surge in cases which may have been overestimated (if the majority of people who test positive for Covid-19 are relatively young, a large proportion of positive cases may not need hospital, let alone ICU)

(I'm aware that even in non Covid-19 times, there would be valid ethical reasons for not admitting very elderly people with serious underlying conditions to an ICU)

I think India will overtake everywhere being honest. As for mass graves, you don’t need to go to Brazil their digging them in Northern Ireland at the moment in Antrim I believe. This will get a helluva lot worse before it gets better, I don’t know what we’re going to do

What do you know about the political affiliations of the people captured in those videos? It’s likely a mix of political hues, even if they are east or west coast locations. One of the locations is in Arkansas too.

This staying at home is really starting to kick in. I'm going crazy here. I was reading a mental health document which said it's okay to talk to the walls, plants and pets but if they starting talking back to you get in contact with a professional.

They in fairness to them can't do that as a lot of people just can't cope with it. Look at the reaction of some already to being told to stay at home and watch TV and only leave home for food and short walks and it's only been a couple of weeks. You tell people now that this is at the very least going to last until July and they just don't have the personal responsibility or sense of civic pride to do it.

How can they when no one knows what's going to happen. Let's say Leo came out and said LC is cancelled, and then come start of June we somehow didn't have many cases folk be saying that it should never be cancelled.

I wonder would there be appetite from colleges/schools etc to work together and push the LC to say Sept/Oct and push college year from January to July and forget about reading week etc, and not have 14 hour weeks - ramp it up a bit. Now I know some courses do more work - but got to look at ways around this issue.

Do you see this going on that long ? How long were Schools closed in China? How long were they in lock down?

If they are digging them there, then they should be digging them here too. Reason? We are neck and neck with them in terms of total population to covid death ratio.

Sixmilebridge in Antrim google it there you’ll find the articles. 50 graves dug. I heard it on the radio today together with news that they’re looking at some centre in Belfast to open one of those “nightingale” hospitals

Because its felt to be more accurate as due to the relatively small number of deaths a small number of outliers distort the mean by too much.

Personally I would prefer both be provided.
