That 325 figure is based on a reduced rate of 1500 cases per day due to the lack of test kits

Of course only seeing 200->300 new cases when the sample size is 1500.

63% of people in ICU are under 65. Therefore if that trend continues there will be lot of young deaths.

The case numbers are completely underestimated. The "flattening of the curve" we are seeing is clearly heavily influenced by the lack of testing.

It would be pure speculation and fuel a frenzy really. Like look at the uk when 6 months was mentioned it erupted.

As was said last night by the professor doing the charts, he said to predict past a week would not be accurate

The rate of cases to tests is now 15 % which would indicate approximately 2170 tests.This indicates that the 2 symptoms rule is working l.

Also the contact rate has gone from 20 to 5 down to 3 which means the reinfection rate will be dropping.

Yes they have clearly said that the positive rate has gone up from 6-15% due to more focused target testing.

Wide spread testing is what the WHO recommend, so no test is really wasted .
It gives you a good idea of how widespread the virus is spreading or not.

I believe the swab part is OK, the lab kits is where there seems to be a big shortage of reagents. Negotiations underway.

True and they had changed the threshold for testing. So this should catch more positives. people are staying home the virus will burn itself out over the next few weeks / month. Then we deal with the movement of people into the country.

People were swabbed because they were referred by their GPs who were following HSE guidelines.
They didn't just rock up to Croker off their own bat to get tested.

Yes, and GPs were referring anyone with a cough.
Hence the really High negative rate


This way we’re far far more likely to get actually cases and not those who a bottle of Benilyn will do the job for!

I would disagree we should be getting to people with symptoms first (reason that it is now 2 symptoms a WHO recommendation). The whole country and it mother was going for tests meaning does who should have been tested might not have been. It also considerable slows down getting results back

But if we have a limited number of test kits....surely its prudent to have more targeted testing?

Like at a 5% positive rate,its hard to imagine its rampant outside of those being tested?

If gp doesn't see the patient their referral is based on what the patient tells them.

Ie lies for a test for reassurance.
