But back in January......it was this

Whoever won it back in January obviously sold it back to them.

Back on topic - There seems to more long-odds draws happening recently?

£22.50 for a 1 in 7000 chance of winning a car type of thing - People really need to hold off on entering these and that'll stop the trend fairly sharply!

According to the mileage they are different cars. the January one had around 84K miles (according to Image of Dash) and the current one has 73K miles on it.

I don't think it's aimed at Rkings at all or that the cars are stolen more so the police/revenue are querying proceeds the cars were bought with. Not uncommon for this to happen and it would certainly make for an easy method to launder money I'd guess.

I run a competition page here in the Republic. It's not long on the go. Getting information on the law surrounding it is not easy and after some research I came to the following conclusion.
It's a grey area. You don't need a gambling license as long as you are not offering cash prizes and you make the raffle a 'test of skill' and offer a free entry route. I compare it to what the likes of the Late Late do. They'll give away 10k cash via a test of skill competition which you pay to enter via text/call costs. It's the same premise, it's not purely a raffle.
I will however be seeking professional legal advice soon. When I set the site up it was just a project and I feel like it could turn into something more successful so I want to make sure I'm legit.
Just a point on the high returns. The costs involved are huge. Facebook advertising is extraordinarily expensive and you need to spend big to sell the tickets. That's aside from the costs associated with the payment provider, web hosting, office rent etc.
So while it may look like the ticket sales add up to a tidy profit, for me anyway that is not the case.

However I have only just been able to figure out the VRT charges and they are astronomical!

I could be doing it wrong but a 2016 golf 2litre coming in at over E8,000, 79K miles on the clock

2.0 2021 VW Tighuan over E14,000!

So I think I will enter the competition that has a prize of cash only !

I'd say you're not filling in the NoX correctly as I VRTd a 2018 Golf R for 8k.

Fair play for setting up the website, but your information is completely incorrect.

The requirement for a question of skill and free entry method is a UK based law, specifically in the Gambling Act 2005. The "grey area" in the UK revolves around the skill element, the act calls for the question of skill being sufficient to deter the majority of players from entering.

You DO need a permit in Ireland. In Ireland, a raffle has been deemed a lottery by case law.

From point 27 of the Gaming and Lotteries ACT 1956 (IRELAND):
(2) The lottery shall comply with the following conditions:—

(a) the permit-holder shall derive no personal profit from the lottery;

(b) the total value of the prizes shall be not more than three hundred pounds;

(c) the value of each prize shall be stated on every ticket or coupon.

Now, this law is terribly out of date and needs updating. A bill was passed in 2019 with amendments, but it has not come into law yet.

You can be 100 percent sure that the late late show and RTE have all the required permits so it is not at all like setting up a dedicated raffle company.

Asked and answered many times.

VRT is calculated like any other car that you are importing. Up to you whether you want to import it or not.

I’d imagine it’s possible that customs and vat could be due on it too if the raffle company haven’t imported and registered it correctly into northern Ireland. Assuming they brought it in from mainland uk, which I assume they are with a lot of the higher end cars.

I've entered a few of the McKinney competitions recently, just saw today that in the terms and conditions, under 'eligibility', it states that you must be a UK resident to win: https://mckinneycompetitions.com/terms/

The whole thing is a bit confusing and misleading as you can see loads of ROI winners in the previous winners section and each competition on fb post highlights 'free delivery to UK and Ireland'.

I wonder if this is a recent change due to Brexit or something.

I’ve previously won a free entry by liking and sharing the raffle on Rkings. They emailed me to tell me my entry number. Unfortunately my number didn’t come up.

On another note, my best mate won a Ducati SuperSport on RK a few days ago.the draw was at 12:30 and they delivered the bike to his door at 9pm that night.

Due to new FB regulations we have to make some slight changes to our Ts & Cs to satisfy their marketing content. We are working with our legal teams in the ROI to have this content authorised to suit FB rules for advertising in ROI. we still take entrants from ROI and still deliver to ROI. it’s just a temporary status and you will not be affected by it.

They tend to give you that option at a loss to you as such.... You still a winner either way though...

Say a car is worth 40k and to vrt wouldn't be worth it, you could work out s deal with them where they may give you 35k for it, they'd have a buyer or the original owner etc to take it....

As I pointed out before. I won in December. I valued the car at £14k. They offered my £9k. Serious low ball figure, less than trade price. So anyone thinking of winning a £40k car and getting £35k is not going to happen.

I could have took the car, duty paid it, advertised it etc

BUT

With 2 phone calls and a text I had £9k in my bank account within 24 hours with a £2 entry!!! (No brainer really)

I subsequently found the car online for sale in a dealer or £12500.

No doubt they make good money doing what they do but it is a business.
