I would expect pubs to be the last to open , no reason schools should not open before pubs, ther are many that think schools should open soon, as children are not badly effected and it is a source of childcare for needed health care workers -

Pubs like nightclubs/concerts are probably the hardest places to practice safe social distancing, so I would expect them to be last to open, and they are not really an essentiality like education and food.

ASTI were already raising concerns about the prospect of teachers being back to supervise exams in late July.

    No chance.

Any semblance of normality will not involve mass crowds for a start. You shouldn't need to be told that.

    Hence reduce capacity.

If there are no cases then no need to keep them closed if schools, colleges, creches, gyms, swimming pools etc. are open.

Your just trolling now if you think we'll have no cases. Maybe if we replace Varadkar with the North Korean leader it's possible

Social distancing at the Galway Races. Bring a hurley and put your stake on the end of it for the bookie. Drink pints with a long straw

If you reduced capacity by 80% it would still be far too many people. What are you not getting about this. Is it really that big a deal that there's no Galway Races this year in the context of everything else?

Most people I know who have a wedding of 200 people planned for this summer are frantically rescheduling, never mind tens of thousands.

I am going to watch few episodes of money heist...maybe by then you will find the info about the 80% chance of a vaccine.

There is also thousands of articles saying it will be developed in 12 to 18 months. Are you just going ignore them.

What you said was if there are zero cases in June, why shouldn't it go ahead. Its not the Houdini Virus I gather.

It is not going to happen. Any sports events that do go ahead will most likely be behind closed doors, if any relaxation measures were announced.

Judging by your previous responses you are either not that clever or are seeking attention.

Im just saying what medical experts are saying - but a lot easier to control a classroom of students (especially 6th years doing the leaving) that a crowded half drunk pub I would think.

You've obviously never been to the Galway Races if you think it's the kind of environment where social distancing is possible.

You're also loolah if you think we're going to go from almost 10,000 cases (confirmed) to zero in the next three months.

I don`t know why you are wasting your time responding to that particular poster. He/she is a windup merchant.

You'll have house parties and underground raves quicker than the pubs come back I reckon. Theres absolutely no way people go without socialising until 2021.

Completely agree, people are living in la la land if they think otherwise.

Socialising this summer will look like a barbeque and a few beers with a few of your friends out the back, or a picnic with a smallish group in the park - not packed pubs, festivals etc.

Come on pal give it over. Stop trying to paint everyone who is being realistic as doom mongers and in the same breath saying you are being positive. There is positivity and then there is straightforward head in the sand Donald Trump type positivity.

Hopefully in a few weeks we can very slowly open up the economy again but stuff like letting the Galway races go ahead or letting pubs open up is pure fantasy.

No chance of the races happening I don't think. Pubs maybe will be open by then but there's no chance of a gathering that size.

All articles with a reliable source use the terms "it could be ready" or "it might be ready" and not "it will be ready". The projections of 12 to 18 months are the best case scenario if a vaccine is found to be working after all the necessary trials.

The best places would be isolated houses in the middle of nowhere.

Irish times saying offices may stay shut for months with working from home staying until then. I think that the government should be more open and not drip feed this.

Would people be happy to take a vaccine that has been rushed through ?

I work in Pharma and I don't think a safe reliable vaccine will be available for at least 5 -6 years

Something might be rushed through by 12-18 months but alot of shortcuts would have been taken

I'm not going change your mind, anyway 80% chance is very high so no need to be so negative.

Yeah pretty much I'd say. Professor Sam McConkey was on RTE radio 1 yesterday saying pubs may be able to open later in the summer if people could drink outside while staying 2m away from others. Doesn't seem the most practical though. Not sure many people will be rushing into packed pubs even if they were open for a while though.

There will also be prison sentences and hefty fines. The government is changing its approach based on the compliance of the general public. First they asked people nicely to stay at home but some idiots went drinking in temple bar or queued for a fish and chips in Howth. This led to stronger restrictions and enforcement by Garda...the next step is going to be like France as in curfews will be put in place and you can only go out if you have a signed document.
