hate to break it to you bur were going back to reality not insanity, most people i see outside everyday seem not as hysteric as some posters here, as they live pretty much normal lives with some adjustments, wont take long and many will accept reality is to live alongside virus and small chance of getting it will be the norm.

This is the thing, the same people who are saying we should listen to experts etc think that the only reason the current lock down in place is there is because a few people went drinking in temple bar or for fish and chips in howth.

So said same people saying listen to what your told to do, do you think that decisions for what we should do are decided by the actions of a small minority!!

We aren’t on lock down because a pub was packed in temple bar with what was mainly at the time English stag parties, believe it or not there is a more balanced realistic and scientific approach to this.

Everyone understands that but there does seem to be an element of an hysterical group of people who look at the situation of lockdown being somebody’s or some groups fault directly which then leads to hysteria at someone straying 2.5 Kms from their house on a jog with remarks like, “the longer people don’t comply the longer we are in lock down etc”

This idea that we are only on lock down because of a minority of idiots is itself idiotic.

ASTI were already raising concerns about the prospect of teachers being back to supervise exams in late July.

What's their issue with having to supervise exams in late July?

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Case numbers are irrelevant and I wish people would stop referring to them. It's related to the extent of testing in each country, and even then there could be 10 times as many cases that have gone untested.

    Case numbers are not irrelevant.

They are an indicator of the level of contagion out there. Combined with swift isolation, hospitalisation, contact tracing, that's how you combat it, so that you don't get surprised at ICU level. You cannot do it blindfolded.

I'm surprised that they are inferring that there will be long-term working from home for the population as a whole. I would have thought that the restrictions would be relaxed somewhat and whilst everyone is encouraged to work from home that there would be no legal requirement for non-essential workers, similar to the earlier restrictions.

We are at least two months away from any such considerations.

You must have missed Taoiseach's statement yesterday "that Ireland will face some of its darkest days in the weeks ahead as a result of the coronavirus pandemic"

There will also be prison sentences and hefty fines. The government is changing its approach based on the compliance of the general public. First they asked people nicely to stay at home but some idiots went drinking in temple bar or queued for a fish and chips in Howth. This led to stronger restrictions and enforcement by Garda...the next step is going to be like France as in curfews will be put in place and you can only go out if you have a signed document.

Hopefully the need for such draconian measures wont be needed by say July when the curve is hopefully flattened.

I realise that from time to time temporary lockdowns may need to happen but living with the virus will become the norm and I could see groups of less than 50 being permitted.

Just reading from USA expect 18 months of lock down be all mad and god knows what could or might happen in a long time in isolation.

Yeah, it might start at 10 or 20 and be gradually increased to 50 if there is no major spike.

The lockdown merely enforced the will of the vast majority by restricting the minority who still wanted to go to pubs, betting shops, foreign holidays etc.

    etc...etc..
There's literally no benefit to this other than keeping a minority of whingers satisfied, that's it.

that time has passed - lives need to move on.
we could have gotten by on some behavioural changes , work from home if possible etc...

but now our lives are being impacted a lot more than the supposed benefits.

Ive gone through this in my 2 posts. I can't say anymore.
we disagree that's fine but I'm not alone in my opinion

The vast majority of people want a return to normality. We can't keep locked down for eternity to pander to a small but vocal minority of whingers.

When were you elected spokesperson for the vast majority of people?

Most people I know are happy enough to continue up to May 5 and see where we are then.

Hate to break it to you too, but the rules, laws and restrictions placed by the government take over what some people want or can accept and they apply to all of us regardless if we agree or not.
sorry but i dont share your demented views.

Socialising this summer will look like a barbeque and a few beers with a few of your friends out the back, or a picnic with a smallish group in the park - not packed pubs, festivals etc.

So depressing....I love my weekend afternoon pint. God, between not seeing my friends and family, having to work from home in isolation and the pubs and restaurants closed all summer this is becoming hell.

Hear hear. If they want to lockdown indefinitely themselves- no one is stopping anybody from doing that. Ease the restrictions gradually and let the rest of us get on with life

They finished counting the votes this morning, elected on the first count. Keep an eye on the news later on.

You should get out more and talk to more people.

I love it when people take personal swipes at me because they can't adequately respond to a point I've made.

Here's some actual research on how people in Ireland are doing that's not pulled out of your backside: https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/coronavirus-only-37-feel-others-have-changed-behaviour-in-public-survey-shows-1.4227351

You were the one who took the personal swipe. Luckily I'm not easily offended by people on the internet. That link has absolutely nothing to do with what I said.

Particularly if the death rate stays relatively low I don't think they can keep the current restrictions in place much longer beyond May 5th.

Rightly or wrongly people are becoming impatient already.

Ah come on... the Galway Races as we know them (and any large gathering for that matter) are not going to go ahead this year. I'm from Galway, I know what the Races are like here!

I'm longing for the restrictions to be relaxed but the likes of the Galway Races are a non-runner... pun not intended.

After may 5th if there is not some small rollback then I think there will be.

Unless we are fighting a serious increase in deaths and ICU admissions etc.

    Which looks unlikely now.

Pop in and out of this thread every couple of days.

Usually the same people arguing for opening things up versus the same people arguing for a continuation

Funny really seeing everyone so steadfast in their opinions and neither side has moved an inch from that position in the last two weeks

lol, the only thing about surveys like this is that they are based how people 'feel' rather than hard facts, anecdotal evidence should always be taken with a large pinch of salt.
