They won’t ventilate fragile people in care homes anyway, this is always the way. Elderly people’s lungs can not withstand ventilation by intubation, it kills them quickly.

I know its awful and sad but they have to pick a point to not ventilate, its highly invasive, as the numbers grow they need to triage they cannot take in all the sick from care homes sadly.

Joe is correct to query this caller and go for a check.

I had to agree to my mother bring denied ventilation. It was explained to me fully that literally the fragile lungs would almost “burst” with it being done. Intubation is never initiated in these cases, it’s not a matter of not having ventilators.

What do these callers want? In Italy they had to black tag people arriving at the hospital, if we had taken in all the elderly from the nursing homes we'd be at that point now. They can be given comfort and medicine in the nursing homes to ease them, not invasive and scary ventilation in a new location (especially those with dementia etc.)
