They were put in the same bracket, not to facilitate the customer, but to facilitate the club owners. The very nature of clubs.. a shît load of people together, dancing or socializing, in close proximity to one another in mostly poorly ventilated establishments... alcohol, ‘some’ more illegal substances which will and can alter decision making and behavior... hmm

not sure how that facilitates club owners either. They were never going to open at the same time as pubs

A perfectly vaild option for anyone. However we cannot have everyone hiding at home indefinitely as the consequences for that would almost be as severe.

    I agree

legally though they will get very hard to keep nightclubs closed too long , you couldnt possibly single them out when they are not even open, they could definitly argue they are the same as swimming pools and gyms by their nature.

Possibly but ‘Give Us The Night‘ a lobby group now representing the nightclubs are actually actively pushing for reopening... ‘give us the night’..aka ‘give us money’...

Give us the night have been around years looking for license reform for the industry, so in that not everywhere closes at one go at say 2.30am. Move towards a European model of longer late licences which means come closing you don't have hundreds spilling onto the street in one go.

The process and fees to get a late licence are also staggering.

The closure last few months they saw as an opportunity to bring the discussion on reform back into debate again as it was something mentioned in the recent programme for government around licence reform.

Give Us The Night have been pushing for reform of the licensing laws here for years now.

there would defo be grounds for legal cases if they go ahead and open pubs, casinos and gyms without nightclubs. gyms loads of sweaty people walking and running in enclosed space, nightclub owners would point to better ventilation and lower capacity for their premises. i cant see them being closed more than 2 weeks longer than pubs. for a start their usually bigger and higher ceiling than pubs. if regular indoor sports like basketball, wrestling, boxing get the green light soon, the "sport" of dancing or disco dancing cant be told they cant do it either. would alchol free nightclubs be allowed i wonder?

people saying put off until august bank holiday, what difference is 2 weeks going to make, we are still going to have cases in 2 weeks and 2 months maybe 2 years ffs. We have to learn to live with this for the foreseeable, cases are always going to edge up upon reopening of anything.

Well I heard earlier that whatever decision is made most of Temple Bar pubs will remain closed anyway.
    No tourists.
Dubs wouldn’t go there in a fit.

It's the risk of the behaviour of the "young people"! Someone made the point that pubs might reduce the number of house parties. I think they want to open but it might be a phased thing. On balance this seems to be the old "we're not there yet today" message in advance of a new phase. Lower numbers for the rest of the week and no new clusters may tip the balance.

Yes, the only Dubs there really are people say strong armed into bringing in friends or family who are visiting, I wouldn’t exactly be feeling that sorry for them... give your local the trade when you can instead of some rip off 7 euros a pint rip off merchant, who no doubt won’t be arsed about ensuring distancing, just about packed pubs and packed tills...

young people will behave the same way whenever they open, at least in a pub some social distancing will be observed or encouraged.

Im not convinced - young or old. I think a lot of people have realised that eating and drinking out is not all its cracked up to be! We have been making better meals at home than we have had out. Its cheaper to have a house party and less inconvenient. Can't book a table for more than 6 people, can only stay 105 minutes and then can't go to a pub for a few beers after dinner - so have a party at home and problem solved!

Hmmm, phased as in a 5 phase plan drafted on 30th of April and brought forward based on exceptional progress compared to European counterparts, where incidence is now amongst the lowest in the bloc...therefore enabling the resumption of business.

That sort of phased approach? Other poster is right delaying it makes no sense, we will have cases either way.

I was sitting in a pub at lunchtime (just eating not drinking) reading about it being potentially delayed and thinking how daft this paradox is, not too mention it must be open to serious legal challenges at this point. If you tried to explain it to somebody from a different Country they would be completely bewildered.

Looking like it might be Aug 10th hopefully. Some sense for once if it happens. Would be great news for us all to see it pushed back.

But pubs are open, you realise that right? This just keeps the bizarrely arbitrary €9 food rule. It just unfairly punishes pubs that can't serve food whilst not actually solving any issues.

I wonder if you buy €9 worth of finger-food to have at the extra house parties that are inevitably going to spring up now, will you be safe from the virus?

Glorified restaurants and some illegal lock-in establishments are open. Pubs aren’t already open.

Pub restaurants serving food can keep regulations in place better. The lock-in ones need to be shut down for good. Life first, money later.

There will be less people going to house parties than would be going to the pubs if opened.

its official!! Not opening until 10th August..............

A couple more weeks of house parties and drinking pints at restaurants. That seems to be all I've seen friends do anyway, so obviously the government are happy for that to continue. Sad for the pub owners, when are they going to be allowed open at all. Finding it hard to believe in the August 10th date

There will be some amount of house parties over the August bank holiday weekend now anyway. And at those there won't even be a token attempt at social distancing and nobody will be collecting contact details.

Did you think they’d be collected in the pub?

Hasn't been any sign of real leadership on the whole Covid restrictions since Meehole took over, and i'm no big fan of Leo at all.
