most people here would be more familiar with boris than any of the anonymous people who have died so far in ireland so yeah it would hammer it home a bit.

The HSE not releasing names is a factor too.
The crisis is too anonymous in Ireland.

Somebody as well known as the British PM is bound to generate a reaction.

Not really, once the number of cases start to reduce, some restrictions can be eased, as long as social distancing remains well managed.

That would be the perfectly wrong time to lift restrictions. A few days of BAU can undo all those weeks of restriction.

Once we get the R0 below 1, the numbers of new cases will rapidly go to zero. Not before then can we release the restrictions. IMHO of course, but that's my take for what its worth.

Just looking at next door getting a take away delivered. The driver with no gloves and wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Why are take aways still allowed?

Because we already had one famine and we don't want another.

What would you expect him to wear ? Gloves do more harm than good btw

Watching the coverage on Sky News. There was a few commentators being interviewed - they all spoke about the need to take the virus seriously now, as if the whole thing is still some sort of surprise or unexpected.

That's because some people are not taking it seriously, out and about at house parties and he like, socialising and spreading it without even knowing.

So now that sweaty baboon Raab has his finger on the nuclear button !

From reading other forums based in UK, the vast majority of every political hue are very sorry to hear about Johnson right now. However they are also a bit scared of Raab being in charge pro tem.

Many are saying that Rishi Sunak would have played a blinder as he is pragmatic, polished and actually listens to the advice of his Civil Servants and advisers. He is intelligent too.

Either way I really hope Johnson is in the cohort of those who come out of ICU alive. Wish him all the best.

'The anonymous people who have died so far in Ireland'

    Ffs froog.

What has he got to do with people dying in Ireland? It was muppets going to Italy and corona hot spots that brought the virus back and if you mention Cheltenham he didn't put a gun to irish people heads to go over there.
Curious did Boris piss in your pint or something that makes you have such a hard on for him?

Sweet mother of god. Boris gone into ICU.

The Russian media from last night may have been right all along.

    Why does this mean ??

Sputnik last night claimed he was on a ventilator, whilst the British media were downplaying it. “Tests” , “precautionary measure”.

What time is Donald Duck on tonight.

I wonder will he be advising Boris to take his new wonder drug Hydroxychloroquine.

The Russian media preempted this scenario last night. I presume that's what he's refering to.

They've said that take away foods is safe enough once you pour it out (microwave if still concerned) and wash your hands after taking in the takeaway etc.

If he had gloves they could have anything on them as much as hands. The onus is on you to make sure you take the precautions.

Sky News regular doctor guy said that the NHS just doesn't give up an intensive care bed for more looking after, even for PMs and it's about time the PR guys were honest about the situation

They are employed to put a positive slant on things until it is no longer feasible. There is the potential psychological impact on the british public in the midst of this crisis if you admit your leader is in grave danger. To put it in others words: **** could be about to get real.
That said a lot of people come out of intensive care and make a full recovery. Hopefully, Boris is one of them.

Raab is saying that last time he talked to Johnson was on Saturday.

To me it confirms that Johnson has been pretty unwell since yesterday.

Had he had mild symptoms as previous press releases and today’s tweet mentioned, he would have had at least a short chat with the next guy in the command chain yesterday or today.

Trump is a dangerous fool , in love with the Great God of GDP and the casino stock market. He’s not a “wartime” character.

Take-aways should be fine so long as you are careful with the packaging, I'd imagine.

Jesus. Poor old Boris. It did worry me a bit with him being overweight and not the healthiest looking.

It really has the feel of rich person's disease (just heard Pep Gardiola's mother died from it). Or at least, most diseases hit the poorest hardest, but not this one.

I know someone who's out of the woods, he was in intensive care and a fitness fanatic.
Caught a bad strain from a skiing trip.
    Mid 40s this is serious.
    Haven't seen him in months.
Only found out about him today, all hush hush

It depends on the strain of it, but if it's one of the bad strains it can really cause havoc.

He's ok now, back to normal but he's lucky he pulled through.

Im out of the firing line now from thinking I could have itt unknowingly two and a half weeks. Took all the precautions and keep using sanatiser and washing hands with soap and warm water.

Its a horrible virus that's for sure.

As another poster pointed out that it could be to do with the viral load.

Anyone who has been on a skiing trip will know that the chances of a high viral load is huge on such a holiday. You've a lot of mucus as you're up high and in the cold, that gets onto your snood, scarf, gloves, jacket, hands. The first thing you do when off the piste is head to a bar or villa for drinks, food. All your head and hand gear is thrown down on shared tables, food and drink is shared around. Most accommodation is in shared villas 6-12 people and bars, nightclubs and restaurants are tight squeezes in the evening.
More so than any other holiday or even environment is contact with other people's mucus inevitable and a lot of it.

But I've a question for someone that might know: Is a viral load important in other viruses? I would've thought you either get Rabies, Smallpox, Dengue etc. or don't. I didn't realise you could get more of a virus. Is that normal?
