Tbf journalist asking a simple question and the answer shes getting is very confused and slightly aggressive, imo

Maybe we just let the Germans give us the real figures.

So total confirmed cases is actually 8089 when the German cases are included and that makes a big difference to our fatality rate

Seems they will include it going forward

Tony mustn't have had his dinner hes getting grumpy with George

Quit being so cantankerous with posters and regularly whoring likes in this thread. The way you regularly behave in this thread you would think that you were the only person in Ireland with concerns around the virus.

They are largely old cases and he's said that quite a few times over the last week. They are good for the model.

they didn't add them to the total because it would scare people. and now everyone's confused. it's a comical miscommunication and completely needless.

If they gave clear and concise numbers (not that they have them) people could work things out for themselves. Remember, they want you to make a choice between two things only: Lockdown or kill your granny.

Whatever that man is paid it’s not enough he has had one day off since this started except to go to hospital for the tests

Mean is what most of you are referring to as 'average'

    For example: 1, 7 and 52

    Median is 7
    Mean is 20

I know how to calculate these numbers... But it sounds like old people are dying. It's not just old people.

Checking out of here for a while, not good for me , leave you with something that has helped me re-boost/sharpen my immune system - the Wim Hof breathing excercise (this is good for me) - and its free (may help others) :-

At least the total new cases they report daily are the current ones and not including the old German ones.
Part of me was hoping they were included and we were flattening the curve more than we have been.

Source: Department of Health and the Health Protection Surveillaence Centre.

*"Recovered" rates are not reported by the Department of Health in the above link, these figures are taken from the Worldmeters and Johns Hopkins websites which use data suplied by the DoT to the ECDC under the WHO Guidelines for reporting. Recovered statistics can only be published as "recovered" following two successful tests of being clear of the virus under the WHO reporting guidelines, as a result it is likely the recovered data is skewed.

** Due to the above issue with reporting of revovered cases the number of active cases is also likely skewed.

I get it now but he should have just added them to the total and updated accordingly once they came back. Basically on Wednesday, just say the total new cases is 400, we have added 1000 new cases based on historical tests two weeks ago therefore we have a total of whatever the total is

Mean, median... Makes it sound like old people are dying. A 32 year old died of this.

Well, they are. If a 32 year old died and the mean is still 70+ then you can be sure few young people are dying, otherwise it would reduce the mean age.

Just put the German numbers in to the total.

Need to include then, but add them to the day the tests were taken. Adding them to today’s total give a false picture of the current situation as they are weeks old

I know how to calculate these numbers... But it sounds like old people are dying. It's not just old people.

Who said it was 'just' old people?

did the say that ? Didn't they say yesterday they'd be including the German numbers into the modelling or something like that yesterday ?

Tony Holohan said on Sunday that the figures from the tests sent back from Germany would be included by Thursday (yesterday). The actual numbers have been mentioned several times, why can't they just add them in and be done with it, although as the test may have been carried out 3 weeks ago.

Remember, they want you to make a choice between two things only: Lockdown or kill your granny.

Where do you come up with this nonsense.

So total confirmed cases is actually 8089 when the German cases are included and that makes a big difference to our fatality rate

Seems they will include it going forward

Tony mustn't have had his dinner hes getting grumpy with George
No, our total is new cases. The German ones are too old but still useful for the model.

Guess the test numbers are only important when it suites them

Do you want them to not be OK? These numbers aren't incredible or terrible while we are in lockdown. If we don't have an extension then it gets way worse than this very quickly.

We are doing alright. Would prefer to be better but we are not out of the woods yet

Why do you believe it would get way worse very quickly? If we tweak the restrictions and they go up, we can tweak it back again. If the numbers don't go up, we can continue tweaking towards relaxation. If we do nothing, we stay where we are.
