Your guess would be wrong. Most people have known about shoddy Chinese food standards for decades. As has been pointed out, this was timebomb waiting to happen.

    Yeh sure. :pac:

Here is the who graph numbers against our own. Their 5111 is yesterdays but we are still missing a few from our own to make up the 5111 which might be down to time of release

Apologist is too strong. It's just a fact of life that we can't all afford nice butchers and packaged meats in shops. If they were such a risk with billions of people using them, we'd have a lot more outbreaks.

Ah now. We've been extremely lucky there hasn't been more outbreaks - humanity in general tends to be extremely lucky in the way it plays with fire.

That alone is a disgrace. The chinese are responsible for the extinction and near extinction of 100s of animal species just to satisfy their thirst for Erectile Dysfunction "medicines" and other hair brained cures. Yet we all pass it off so we can buy cheap tat.

The problem is that even some educated, high ranking Chinese believe that Tiger balls or Rhino horn will increase their sexual performance. It runs very deep.
If China are genuine then they should open up all food/medicine areas for international inspection.

I was basing this on an additional 2000 tests/day from Germany ontop of the 1500/day from Ireland.

    Total 3500 tests/day @20% = 700 cases

Am I mistaken with the German testing?

German testing was probably lower priority, so would expect lower positive % from those.

This has nothing to do with racism. Its to do with eliminating an ongoing threat to human lives and economic devastation.

One thing I've wondered is there a chance that this virus could go away over the next few months. There is a lot of talk about Asymptomatic carriers etc. Is there a chance with social distancing and with the fact that a lot of people may have already have had the virus that over a few weeks in the summer it just goes away.

Mr. Trump, it's an absolute pleasure to meet you :)

Slowly but surely we'll get there...

OSLO (Reuters) - The COVID-19 epidemic is under control in Norway, the Nordic country’s health minister said on Monday, pointing to the low rate of transmission of the disease.

A person carrying the novel coronavirus in Norway contaminates now on average 0.7 other individual, Bent Hoeie told a news conference. The government’s goal was to limit the spread to maximum one other person.

The government will decide on Wednesday whether to extend ongoing restrictions, including the closures of schools and nurseries, beyond mid-April.

    Yes at 5.30pm.

I fear high numbers in confirmed positive cases and fatalities but hope I am wrong

I assume our lockdown will be extended than 12th April

Today I've seen far more people out and cars on roads. Some lockdown.

Higher numbers of confirmed cases are expected given the results are due to start coming back from the additional German labs now.

Definitely. I noticed it over the weekend. People getting weary. The youth in my area have carried on business as usual from what I've seen.

In a world were you can buy a box of Viagra for a couple of dollars (so I hear), there is no reason for Traditional Chinese Medicine promoting a cure for these ailments. Very little of TCM is proven to work, its mostly mythical and rumoured cures that don't actually work. Same goes for shark fin soup.

Its mystifying that the Japanese are rightly called out on their whaling, but there's next to no criticism of the Chinese shark fin industry.

If Aids had found a way to transmit like a Coronavirus or Ebola we'd have been well screwed. Nearly 100% fatal back in the day and it took us 40yrs to get some medicines to get it under control. Its only a matter of time before we end up with something we can't solve if we keep up these practices.

Doesn't matter when millions believe it & the government support it. TCM has expanded not reduced. There is (or was) a TCM probationer with a premises in Galway Shopping centre.

looking at that as well with 5111

To me those figures look like 9am 5th April to 9am 6th April.

Not what the HSE will announce this evening. They are showing a spike in cases, not deaths. We will probably see a figure of around 500 cases this evening.

No, I can understand the complaints about the wet markets, for sure, but the whole "blaming the Chinese" and "making them pay" is a bit over the top. It's like wanting to hold the Irish collectively accountable when a few members of the population do something reprehensible.

I was listing to RTE today at one. Fergal Bowers said that there are big delays in testing. He said no exact date on the scale of the back log in testing, said testing delay 7-10. days he is aware of delays of 15-17 days. Said swabs were sent to Germany and the first of 2000 results due back later this week. Said HSE had sourced reagent but have to test it. Said testing dropped to 1500 a day last week(was it ever above that?)

I dont know if they sent one batch of 2000 to Germany or they sent daily batches. It seems from previous HSE information that testing has fallen below 1500 per day now.

Before everyone has a fit if an increased case numbers come back (as a result of backlog testing in Germany)

    A) These are cases from mostly from 1+ week ago, the vast majority of which will be now recovered.
    B) They will be mostly from people who have not had to go hospital and have been self isolating at home.

If they have been following instructions while waiting for results then they won't have spread it anyway.

It's better to have more people who have had it and are in theory now immune and unable to spread it.

They sent a huge batch of around 5000 tests to Germany last week and it was said yesterday those results had started to filter back from Friday and that Germany could do 2000 per day. The delay is in processing the swabs not in getting the test.

Expect this to clear up this week.

Anyway even if there is a delay of say 15 days, the majority of these would have been in self isolation and now be recovered and if not would have been admitted to hospital. It's the hosptial numbers, ICU and deaths to watch
