Money again. The entire country revolves around money only. The government agencies only exist to ensure the transfer of wealth.

Fortunately there aren't reports of millions of evictions yet. Undoubtedly a few of the worst landlords will happily throw people out because they simply can, some will do it because they're underwater themselves, some will do it because the tenant is an unsufferable prick or has other violations on their lease. Remains to be seen how it really plays out.

"We must stop politicising this virus."

"We've 3 vaccine in phase 3 clinical trials - something that would have been impossible in the previous administration or any other administration"

"I signed directives to give a payroll tax holiday on the understanding that after the election, on the assumption it will be victorious for an administration that's done a great job, we will be terminating that tax, on the other hand the other group want to raise taxes..."

No politics in the White House tonight then

Great article detailing his mishandling of the pandemic. He would make you sick.

What does it say? Does it say the US is doing really well with Corona?

It says daily numbers have started dropping quite sharply since hospitals were no longer allowed to report their figures to the Centre for Disease Control, and were forced to send them instead to the White House for whom this appears to be an exclusively political crisis (rather than a health one).

Within five days of that happening, the increase coincidentally levelled off and within two weeks of it, the numbers began to drop quite quickly despite very few lockdown measures still in place (if any at all depending in the state) and a large number of people not only refusing to wear masks but also congregating in large numbers with no distancing frequently. Florida for example is on half the rolling average it was in mid July. Here's the Florida governor's campaign ad by the way, just because yes this is actually real.

Each state still has its own DHHS which reports numbers of new cases, tests and hospitalizations daily, independent of the federal government though so how can trump or the white house interfere with those?

Jesus. That ad is like a parody youd see on John Olivers show or something lol

So you think people are collating information from multiple states and or counties on a daily basis rather than taking the federal government supplied number?

And even if they did, who do they complain too? You, and many others, will simply ignore it on the basis of MSM or Democrats making up the numbers.

By the time the usual back and forth happens, new numbers are out and Trump has made yet another false or crass statement and the story moves on.

You realise you are putting your faith on a man that has publicly stated he wants tests reduced so cases would fall? He said that more than once and yet you want to believe that cases have dropped for no apparent reason and just happen to coincide with the WH taking over control of the numbers.

In the context of that piece, the De Santis ad is less OMG funny and more WTF sad.

The rolling 7 day average is one third higher than a month ago. At the current rate the death tally will be around 270-300k by election day. Maybe more as the schools and collages go back and seasonal coughs start up in earnest for much of the country.

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 76,130 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

CNN were regularly providing projections of significant increases in cases and deaths, but it's turned out worse than they were reporting

For example, back in May a total number of deaths of 134,000 was predicted, and that was double prior projections

They are now at 170,000 and still increasing at a rate of 1,000+ a day with a new spike to be expected as the consequences of the recent increase in cases work their way through

The latest CDC projections are between 175,000 and 190,000 deaths by the end of August, but it's already looking like it will be at the top and or even above that range

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,579 ✭✭✭✭Leroy42

It seems that it is now just accepted as the new normal.

Nothing significant is being done to rectify the situation. No calls for lockdown or anything from the WH.

Business as usual, economy bouncing back, unemployment etc.

Every three days they lose the equivalent of 9/11 and nobody seems to care.

Tbh, it isn't surprising. In a country where children being shot in school is met with a shrug of the shoulders people dying due to a virus just isn't that serious.

The latest idea is to reduce testing and that the WH takes the lead in collating the numbers rather than the CDC. Press briefings are back to political rally for Trump rather than information.

Schools say they cant enforce the mask mandate - but then why are they so readily capable of enforcing no tube tops for women or offensive graphic tees?

Or the particularly crappy one of ethnic hairstyles getting banned. But if you get people to wear masks for the sake of public health, way too far!

Look it's the sun but a New York club is reopening with Rapid testing at the door, https://www.the-sun.com/news/1311801/elite-sex-club-returns-new-york-covid-testing-vips/
Is it possible, why aren't we doing it, I assume you don't have wait at the door for a few days to get in.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,564 ✭✭✭dubrov

I'd say the cost of the test is astronomical.

Would you pay a grand to go to a night club?

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,333 ✭✭✭✭salmocab

Also it appears to be only 16 people to test at the door.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,483 ✭✭✭touts

By all means open the night clubs and the pubs.

But ban the sale of alcohol in pubs, nightclubs shops and off licences for the rest of 2020. Announce the ban late one night after closing time to come into effect immediately. That way people can't panic buy.

Alcohol is the problem. People want to socialise so let them socialise. But 4 months with no alcohol will do no harm and will help avoid people losing control as we saw in some very high profile cases. If you feel outraged by this blame the idiot barman swinging from a rafter with a bottle of whiskey at 4pm yesterday in Dublin.
