It's still hard to believe that anyone down south was brave enough or thought they were hard enough to go up to Belfast to enforce a drug dept.. I'm from co Meath and the little knowledge I have of Northern Ireland and even the border counties, well it would be just unthinkable,.I wouldn't even suggest enforcing any dept in Dundalk or Monaghan etc... Drugs is something that's seen as the absolute devils work in those areas.so you wouldn't know who would take you out!?..

Drugs are as rampant up north as they are down here. There have been big drug dealers from both sides of the border operating up north for over 20 years. Elements of both the Kinahan and Hutch gang have been residing and operating up North since the feud broke out. It was said on here last week about notorious Republicans working with the kinahans, it was also mentioned in the media about kinahans operating in Northern Ireland around the time of the Jock and the McGuigan murders. It was also mentioned initially in the media around the time of the JD murder over a year ago.

The Chinese are concentrated solely on illegal gambling places, massage parlours and strangely enough 'underground raves' in Dublin. They also a lot of smuggled goods, cheap cigarettes, fake brands that kind of stuff.

Usually around Capel Street and off Parnell. these places are based. It would be strange because you'd enter one and it would be known heads playing poker upstairs smoking away while downstairs in the basements would be full of hipsters and homosexuals having a rave to house music

Dublin lads go to Belfast to collect debts ALL the time, The biggest wholesalers are in Dublin and while those IRA guys are in their 60s, 70s aren't a threat. Dublin lads have a line of junkies who would do a hit, can bring in internationally renowned hitmen like the Estonian or the Arabic guy from Holland. There's even former Irish army guys that can definitely hit their targets.

Do you know how much money these Dublin guys are floating in? Belfast is small time. Honestly

Well their very very brave. There's actually lads now probably hitting their 70s and every age down to late teens, religious people and political, Catholics and Protestants alike and totally anti drugs whatever about making a buck any way possible...well they despise drug dealers and would nearly beat it out of a family member to give them the name of whoever they owe money to.....

Because he didn't think there was any danger, it's not wise for a known criminal to carry a gun around unless you're doing a job that will require it, and you have a plan to get rid of it after the fact

but surely he was in constant danger. you cant clip multiple people and not always be prepared for retribution

Wise up. Drugs has been rampant in the north for decades. Mostly coming up via Dublin. One of the most notorious dealers was speedy fegan from Newry, he’s dead about 20 years and was 24 when he was gunned down, he basically controlled everything that came up
North. Back in the 90s yes the Provos were “anti drugs” but they turned a blind eye so long as it was smalltime and taxed; but you also had some of their members dealing who were automatically ****ed out and put out of their areas. Anyone who either did not heed warnings or fell foul of local IRA were executed.

Loyalists on the other hand have been unashamedly selling and profiting form drugs from the get-go. You do get condemnation in some quarters but by and large it’s for show. UVF, UDA and LVF have all been at it and continue to do so. Loyalists have dabbled with heroin, but that is mainly controlled by Eastern European’s who supply Belfast, paying paramilitaries for the privilege.

Why do some people turn to these groups? Ian Horgan for example. Killed and raped someone when he was 16. Seems to be tied up with the O’Neills now. By all accounts came from a normal family. Does prison turn them to gangs.

Is it not the case that any BIG time dealers from the South who went up North,it was to be protected by certain groups and it was for a short period of time, paying big money for the privalege.. until they worked out their next move!?

The money laundering aspect is another interesting strand in gangland. Lots of cash but they have got to clean it and buying property is not an option because of CAB. Locally it seems to be hairdressers and tanning salons that are used to do it, no doubt it is a lot more sophisticated at the higher levels.

Does anyone remember Chinese sit down restaurants in Dublin city centre in the 80s and 90s? Always more or less empty yet they somehow still stayed open despite premium rents. A great bunch of lads.....but they weren't here for the pints of plain

Don't know what it's like over there but here things like tanning salons and taxis have been done to death as have clothes. Bars, restaurants and clubland were good along with construction..travel agencies and footy clubs was a thing too, one old timer had lots of grocery stalls and it always helps to have banker friends - likes of bitcoin have helped, eastern europeans love a carwash, theres plenty of ways for the creatives.
It's easier to purchase property abroad too.

Edit; plenty of irish bars in liverpool sprung up in last few years in ctr

Speedy was some boy. Well liked he was very popular this side of the border.

He was already a rapist when he went to prison
More like does being unhinged turn them to chaotic crime

McGuigan was a far more notorious hitman than even Lawlor, a seriously seriously sick man, built like a brick **** house and killed a LOT of dealers (amongst others), he shot Jock in the street over personal issues that went back years, Jock had him kneecapped and McGuigan was bitter ever since, he also killed Sammy Ward the IPLO leader, and Ward was his "friend", McGuigan volunteered to do it himself even though Ward looked after his family when McGuigan was in jail, he once had to be restrained from cutting a mans head off during a fight.

He stayed in the Short Strand after shooting Jock despite knowing he was a dead man
