On spotify I seem to be seeing more and more covers of songs that were decent enough a couple of years ago or even older, the only difference being the name if the song is slightly different. Theres too many examples to think of but in the dance/electronic genre on spotify Im seeing a lot if this. Are people really running out of new original ideas?

There was a lot of rock and nu-metal bands doing 80's covers about 15 years ago. A lot of folks were complaining about the lack of originality to it. But Dance music was doing the same thing.

What tends to happen is when a style of music gets popular, people want to adapt songs they enjoy or are also quite popular to it.

I reckon it'll be very visible in Spotify because it's easy for them to string those kind of playlists together for free users, to entice'em into buying the service.
