Work and Jobs forum, regarding a thread for civil service EO officer applicants, a couple of people who are part of the Irish language applicants start talking As Gaeilge and are immediately told to stop speaking Irish then further threatened by the Cmod that if anybody takes issue with this you'll be receiving a ban.

How is this acceptable on an Irish website?

It's discriminatory and intimidating and before any issues are even raised the C-mod is threatening bans. It's already apparent that anybody who wished to pm the mod would not be entertained.

    I think it's appalling.

Not looking for a debate but wish to advocate for Irish language speakers and highlight poor moderation.
Mad that on an Irish website, and in a thread that has people applying for a job that includes Irish language speakers are silenced then essentially told no you do not have rights or freedom of speech.

I took a look at the thread in question. And you are being more than a little disingenuous in your description of events.

No poster was told to "stop speaking Irish", nor were they threatened with a ban for posting in Irish.

What was said, and I am quoting directly here:
you're free to post in Irish as long as you have a full English translation to go with it in this or any other forum on boards with one exception which is surprise surprise the Gaeilge forum.

It's a predominantly English speaking website. Frequented by a majority population of English speakers. And moderated in English. It's been a long established rule that any posts in Irish outside the Gaeilge forum must be accompanied by an English translation, to be inclusive to all involved.

    Also:
Now let's return to the topic at hand and any more discussion on this will be followed by further bans as discussing of mod decisions is not something done on thread but via PM.

Bans weren't threatened for the use of Irish - the mod rightly stepped in before the thread got derailed even further, and made it clear that mod decisions were not to be discussed in thread as this is a bannable offence, but could be taken up via PM.
