RIP. the 43 people who died

For a small country like ours, 43 deaths seems huge.

A sad but inevitable reality of Covid-19. Hopefully the numbers start to fall from here, one death is too many.

Numbers in ICU drop again today

This is beaten, bar in the nursing homes. We need to start moving on and throw huge resources at the nursing homes - something we should have done at the start.

It does look like the virus is next to non-existant outside the care homes. We will need a fairly thorough investigation of nursing homes after all this.

Did they give a breakdown of how many of those that died were in residential care?

Not really. Cases are falling. Deaths are disappointing but its still relatively stagnant in terms of daily changes.

Unfortunately, as TH says, appears deaths are comparatively low in the general community, but extremely high in nursing homes.

The death toll is going to increase significantly because of the nursing home clusters, I’m not sure why people are surprised by the death toll today

Where is there a list of ICU and hospitalized numbers for the past few weeks?

If the R0 is less than 1 new cases should decrease.

Yet Harris says we should be careful as new cases are on the increase.

    Am I missing something here?

The only way cases can increase if the R0 is 1 or lower is from imported cases.

Yes, my mam and dad are actually in lockdown in Spain now for weeks at this stage. One of them can go out once a day, to the farmacía or the supermercado.
They don't f*ck around either, my 66 year old mother has been stopped twice by the police going to the shops, and had to explain exactly what she's doing.

So they can go out. Ive been stopped by cops too. And Spain has allowed non-essential workers to resume work, so we are in fact more locked down than Spain right now.

Bad as they are, and every death is a grieving family, they are most certainly not huge.

43 death deaths in one day in a country of our size is huge, absolutely. It is more than a 50% increase of the average national mortality rate on a typical day

If we were same size as France/Italy/UK which are all about 12/13x times our population ,it would be 560 deaths, we are not at the level of deaths in continental Europe but not miles behind either.

R0 of .7 gives 700 new cases for 1000 existing.

Yep, should be more or less it. If they report Germany it will be for current tests and I'd say there will just be in total number.

Of course, but we're taking in the context of the number of cases to date, the number of hospital cases and a pandemic situation.

Unfortunately deaths will continue to rise, based on the number of patients still seriously ill.

When they saying nursing homes - does that mean died in the nursing home, or was form a nursing home origin?

Is the curve flattening because of the good weather? - if so there is no for lockdown

Nothing to do with weather. Covid 19 is not heat sensitive.

Gonna have to wait for the tweets for a decent look at the graphs.

Yes. But he said new cases are rising. They should be falling if R0 is less than 1. Maybe he said it badly and meant to say we still have new cases.

New cases rising means R0 over 1.

Lots of people having drinks in other households over the weekend.

A few doses of a tazer and some pepper spray is how these types should be dealt with. That along with heavy fines and detention in a secure facility for repeat offenders. The proverbial ton of bricks needs to come down on offenders of this nature. Time to take the velvet glove off the iron fist.

Do you even understand the numbers and how they are calculated? Do you know that most countries are not including nursing homes, deaths outside a hospital, or deaths where an underlying issue was the main contributor?

It can be 0.99 also, just because it’s less than one does not mean it’s 0.

If, for instance, we were incurring 40 deaths per day that would be the same every day so no change.

That is what they mean when they refer to a zero rate of change, it means no longer getting worse but not yet getting better, the peak of the curve.

Number updated to match today's report, I have included the total numbers reported today
I have added the number died in the chart in yellow
    recent cases growth
    12-4-2020 4.8%
    13-4-2020 5.46%
    14-4-2020 5.15%
    15-4-2020 5.55%
    16-4-2020 5.01%

    No Change in number
    509831.PNG

    Slow Change
    509832.PNG

    Big Drop in numbers
    509833.PNG

if we only grow at the rate of 7.8% this day next month we would have 4,000 deaths
if you wait till we are overloaded it's too late

I think this site is one of the best as it allows you to change and check the visualization of covid19

Harris really is pulling figures out of his hole, 1700 dead this day next week if nothing was done. Italy had nobody near that before any restrictions. This would relate to about 20k deaths a day in Italy. I dont think bull**** like this is helping.
