Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Well, keep in mind that there are views out there, that have not been discounted, that say the risks out in public/shopping are very minimal unless you have been sneezed or coughed on. I'm not saying masks are not worthwhile, but the CMO has officially stated that community transmission is "close to zero". If community transmission is close to zero, then people are not getting sick in their droves doing the weekly shop (mask or not). As for walking outside, unless you are in the slipstream of a very heavy breather for a while, you are not taking much risk without a mask. If you were, countless thousands of walkers you see every day would be falling ill. And it doesn't look like they are.

Unlikely I agree, but with asymptomatic spreaders and proven virus shedding in pre-symptomatic cases, one can never be sure, even when meeting people who are well (apparently).

All the Asian countries who are most successful in containing the virus wear masks, without exception.

So... why try to 'invent the wheel' again. Just follow best practice countries and be done with it.

Small bit of hope there from the Oxford vaccination team. If it does work out they'll be international heroes and it'll be well deserved. At the end of the day this will pass and we'll pull through. Yea sorry, you don't have a vaccine at all unless it's tested, approved and can be deemed effective after mass human trials.

Good luck to them, but I'd imagine everyone behind vaccine research will talk up their particular project. Hopefully one of them gets it right.

** "Recovered" rates are not reported by the Department of Health in the above link, these figures are taken from the Worldmeters and Johns Hopkins websites which use data supplied by the DoT to the ECDC under the WHO Guidelines for reporting.

Recovered statistics are only be published as "recovered" following two successful tests of being clear of the virus under the WHO reporting guidelines, as a result it is likely the recovered data is skewed. Updated on 15/04/20 - The WHO reporting criteria has been changed recently to eliminate the 2 test requirement before reporting as recovered, now an outcome report is sent within one month of initial notification or when an outcome is known, the available health outcomes are either “recovered/healthy”, “not recovered", “death", “unknown" or “other", weather this helps create more accurate recovery numbers or skews them further is yet to be seen.

*** Due to the above issue with reporting of recovered cases the number of active cases is also likely skewed.

No they are correct for the reported dates not the occurrence date.

There is a lag in timings. I could die today but that death is not reported until next week. Deaths must be reported within 3 months of the death occurring.

I had a phone call with a person whose role involves facilitating communication between the HSE and nursing homes in our region yesterday. She said her opinion is that the biggest misstep so far is not recognising in advance that the nursing homes would be the real front line. Why did we not see this coming when it had already happened elsewhere?

I sincerely hope that the new measures being taken can minimise the toll this monster of a virus will have within Ireland's care homes.

Whilst you all may be blaming the Government, right now, right here, for inadequate action, for years, for some of us we have tried to fight the system, for our loved ones, I spent 3 years with HIQA, Ombudsman etc etc, to no avail, the blatant abuse of our aged, in the cloak of care hidden by profits, brings both heartache and helplessness, because once they enter, for you, and all of us, we don't have a say, they own our parents, nothing can be done, I tried.. so hard...it broke me....so whilst not Nursing Homes are culpable in this disaster I can tell you right now that some of those running them....deserve to go to hell....

Many especially from the nursing homes are not actually confirmed til some time later I would guess ergo the daily release figures are not anywhere near real time. But with the ramped up testing we should know deaths from the past few days

You cant rush the safety testing on drugs. That can only be shown with time. Most experts agree it takes about 5yrs to develop a safe drug. Personally i think the answers will come from existing drugs.

I got a call from the nursing home that my mother is in to tell me that if anything happens her, she won't be shifted to hospital.

She has Alzheimer's.
Was talking to her on the phone a little earlier and she thought someone was after leaving her on a back road between two villages near my area and could I come and take her home
