By the time a vaccine comes along economies could be in deep trouble with widespread job losses.

In terms of a medical solution there's some options in the short term.
    1. A study has started in New York into why some people get a mild version and why some get a severe form of covid 19. There may be a genetic or DNA element to it. More about it here.
    https://www.livescience.com/genes-for-covid19-coronavirus-severity.html
If they can find clues in that study as to who might get a mild form, then these people may be able to go about their daily lives in some form.
    2. Viral load - if a low viral load causes a mild form, this may form the basis of a very basic vaccine. But studies are needed into this.
    3. Improve the respiratory health of everyone. Encourage everyone to practice frequent breathing exercises known to help lessen covid 19 effects.
    4. Drugs which reduce the effects of covid19, especially drugs which reduce inflamation around a strong immune response in otherwise healthy people.

At this stage a vaccine may come but will be much too late to prevent huge damage socially and economically. We need something in the next few months, not 12 months from now when economies will be wrecked.

We can fix that by testing less, is that what you are suggesting?

Or what is your suggested solution?

This times 100. Some people can't understand that the more you test the higher you go up the table.

If we don't test we don't have a problem. Welcome to Belarus.

As a frontline doctor I must disagree. Compared to what we planned for we are doing very well from a capacity and resources point of view. I'm sure you won't believe me but I have no loyalty to any politician I post my honest views here.

As a frontline doctor you might have less cases to deal with if the government had introduced screening and quarantining of people entering the country.
It was ridiculous to cancel a rugby match because the Italians might spread the virus in the stadium, but allow thousands of these fans to come anyway to Dublin and unscreened, no quarantine, and for the minister for health to say it was 'less risky' as if ok to have them out and about in Dublin infecting people.
14 day quarantine would have stopped thousands and thousands of people from coming here.
There was very little done to stop the spread in the early days and it is why it got so bad here.
The people on the frontline are left to deal with this but we could have done far more which would have made it far easier for the people on the frontline.

Is America following the trend of "compared to other States, very few people live here so we only have a few cases"? in some areas?

    WHO must be held accountable.

Said it so many many threads ago about the WHO - far too political and all about saving face instead of calling out countries fecking up.

True. Our government also said we'd be doing 15000 tests a day. It aint just Trump who makes it up!
Truth is an awful lot of leaders have made a b**ls of the response to covid19. Future historians will have a field say pouring over their mistakes, starting with turning a blind eye to Chinese wet markets.

They took forever to declare it a pandemic, they recited the CCP line about the virus, don't stop flights from China, keep trade going with them, the list goes on.
They were incompetent to the nth degree on this.
