Dr Fauci got so many things wrong its laughable

I don`t see where the comparison of the U.S.A. response to this pandemic is doing Sweden any great favours.

Some experts made bigger mistakes than others, and some then refused to acknowledge their mistakes and doubled down on them instead, I think it's OK to highlight when this is happening rather than "but he was saying X before and is saying Y now, so I can't believe him", which is pretty much an anti-science response as with science we are learning new information all the time that should change our decisions.

Most countries experts changed their view on how to handle the infectious nature of the virus as the situation became clearer to them but Sweden's approach remained mostly the same throughout 2020.

I hope Sweden avoids the lockdown. Lockdowns don't work:

Most, if not all, changed their opinions and strategies as the pandemic developed and more became known.

Sweden`s Public Health Authority stuck to their herd immunity strategy long after their own antibody test results showed them it was an impossibility.
They were also, when the second wave struck still determined to stick with their strategy, predicting that Sweden would have large numbers immune due to the first wave.

The regional authorities saw it for the myth it was and began imposing their own local lockdowns, which finally forced the government to act and sideline the Public Health Authority.

Teachers in a Swedish town were not allowed by local government to wear PPE (facemasks).

After a furore of complaints the local government have now changed their minds.

Sweden is closing its border with Norway after the government in Oslo introduced its strictest measures of the Covid-19 pandemic so far following several deaths close to the Norwegian capital from the more contagious variant first discovered in the UK.

    Dreadful.

They should do the right thing and close schools altogether for about 3 - 4 months. Like us. Well, they ll never be like us, we shut down schools for 3 months last year and now at least another 3 months this year. 6 months out of last 9 schools shut down. Children's education or social skills dont matter. What matters is covid cases.

Who do they think they are not following covid religion?

Are they still announcing their numbers twice a week? Disgraceful. Public needs to be reminded of numbers every day. Regardless if cases are high or low. It adds a lot of benefit. Cases reduce if they are announced daily.

Last but not least - how dare they stop serving alcohol in restaurants after 8 PM?? Covid must be spreading fast there, probably 10% of population already dead. They shouldve done the right thing and kept restaurants closed for 7 months out of last 9 like us. 20% unemployment doesnt matter. What matters is covid cases. People would be much much happier without a job but with a vaccine, wearing masks, with low covid numbers in their countries, staying at home for rest of their lives, unemployed, safe. Fact.

I thought posters here were saying Sweden was in lockdown since November?

Something fishy going on here. Maybe a bit of dishonesty?

Close neighbours Norway and Sweden use the same system of counting.
I don't think Belgium on mainland Europe uses the same system.
But do check, maybe they do and we can use your numbers also.

Dont be posting relevant facts in this thread.

Its like, well its easy, like check out

    Czech Republic
    Identical population to Sweden
    15,369 deaths
    938,000 cases

    Greece, also Sweden's size - 5,646
    Portugal, also Sweden's size - 10,469

Like Belgium and Czech Republic they are far away from Sweden.
Norway and Sweden is next door, they are as close as Scotland and England.

In fact Scotland and Norway have the same populations.
    Scotland (pop 5.4m) 7,448 deaths
    Norway (pop 5.4m) 544 deaths

Nothing is off the table imo, as long as we arrive at some truth anything goes.
    This is the scientific method.

So Norway are doing exceptionally well, Sweden are doing average, maybe Norway should have their own thread?

It looks like Portugal will sadly be another country to overtake Sweden in cumulative deaths per capita in the next few days. It seems to be part of a pattern where a country through heavy lockdown manages to avoid the worst of the first wave, however the sustainability of measures, combined with lack of immunity, result in a very bad second wave and overall higher deaths.
