My aunt's 2 dogs recently passed away. Very sad situation, I totally empathise and my heart broke for her. She lives alone as her son is at college in a nice quiet estate across the road from my mother (her sister). We all knew she'd get another dog as she loved the company but I was horrified to hear that she was buying a german shepherd dog for 700 euro. Such a bad idea for so many reasons. I tried to explain to her that they grow to be huge dogs and will need miles of walking every day to keep it healthy, and she's a small slight woman who might not be able to handle a dog that large if he gets excited on a walk. Then there's also the cost of food which will probably be astronomical. I tried to encourage her to go to a shelter or the local pound to see if she could adopt a dog.

What made it worse is that her son encouraged her to get a GS because "it'll be a great guard dog". She doesn't live in Beruit, it's a small town in Tipperary ffs. Her idiot son won't have to deal with the dog because he's away in college all week. FS.

Completely ignored me and went and bought the dog anyway.:mad:

As a GSD owner, I would highly recommend a halti lead. This gives the owner more control over the dog should he decide to chase a cat, ball, etc.

In addition to food costs, quite a few GSDs have very sensitive stomachs and could be put on specialist and highly restrictive diets that are not cheap, i.e. the bag of food that our guy is on is just under €100 per month.

Also, as the breed is restricted, she has to get insurance for the dog.

They are very expensive for buying toys for. GSDs have this destroy mentality when it comes to teddies, balls, etc.

But I wouldn’t have any other breed. They are so loyal and gentle with their owners, plus a bunch of fun :)

    I’m choosing to be amused!!!

You've reminded me of another thing people have complained about. :pac:

I said something like 'I wouldn't be keen on white chocolate" and the English fellas went mad, asking me why I didn't just say "I'm not keen on white chocolate".

I genuinely don't understand why they care?! They have plenty of their own annoying grammar mistakes....leave me alone ,like :D

Reminds me of a TA, whenever anyone dies and local people are being interviewed about it (usually a "close knit community" in the backárse of ballybeyond). They always say, "he would have been a great man for the GAA" or "he would have been well known now in the local etc". WAS! He was! :D

And yes, they have many mistakes, the most annoying being (IMO) their insistance on saying they were "sat" instead of sitting.

The argument that fox hunting is about the management of the fox population and pest control.

This is from another thread but it's off topic so I'm having a rant here.

I mean, if only farmers had guns and it was legal to shoot foxes.... oh, wait!

Also, if people weren't doing it for the craic and it was actually a necessary service, wouldn't people charge for their time and their horses and dogs?
Imagine the cost per slaughtered fox if was a real service as opposed to a great bit of craic for people who love horses and dogs.

I mean do even the people spouting this crap believe it?

Thanks for this advice. I'll pass it on to her. Whether it'll be heeded is another thing altogether!

The checkout operator in Tesco acting like we were in Lidl. Even going so far as to push the shopping down, squashing produce in the process.

You better believe I took my sweet time packing the bags there.

Woke this morning to ****ty weather, made a coffee and switched on to Claire Byrne for background, at some point later in the morning, they were slagging off the Oirish accents on some new film “Wild Mountain Thyme” ..they played A recording of some of the actors, Emily Blunt and Jamie Dornan....hers I didn’t think was too bad....his was a bit ropey considering he is Irish.
A while later I’m In the car and Joe Duffy spends half his show laughing at the
Accents in the same film...I’ve honestly heard way worse, Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Julia Roberts...the list is long. Anyway and do my errand and get back in my car, and who is on the radio on that dick Ray Darcy, discussing..go on..Guess..yep ..the accents on the Wild Mountain Thyme...
Newsflash RTE, there is a big bad world out there.
And yes, I should have just switched it off.

That’s the thing, there was one person with a basket, who could have gone to the “self checkouts”, after me and they only rocked up when I had started packing.

They haven’t put a “timer” on the checkouts in Tesco now too, have they? Will be sticking to SuperValu if that’s the case.

The thing is, for €700 quid she is probably not getting any sort of well bred dog...it’ll have papers from the IKC alright but that won’t straighten its back, or fix hip Dysplasia....very common in GSDs. And wait until the son, who maybe hasn’t come home is several months finally gets home, and the “guard dog” has to be turfed outside.
There is a woman near me has a GSD, that she walks while pushing a buggy, I reckon it’s about 8-9 months and is pulling a lot....no way she will be able to hold it in six months time.

I had a bag of frozen herbs (can't remember which one) that came in very handy thanks! Just the right size. It took about 2 hours to stop hurting! I'm such a moron :o Then I went outside to say hello to one of the crazy kitties and I think they were all a bit hyper and he dug a claw in to my finger!

I don't have sudocrem but would be ok to put some moisturiser on it now I guess?

Must be a lack of "diversity" in that flick so.. Thank fook....

Definitely an 'agenda' if all the prix were 'dissing' it - fukkem - if Emily Blunt's in it, it's reason enough to watch it :pac:

Yes, that's a good point that I forgot to mention. I would highly recommend commencing training almost immediately with the pup on basic commands and I don't know if it's possible with the current situation, but enrolling in training classes would be a good idea.

GSDs (particularly male ones) can be very stubborn and unlike eisenberg's neighbour, she doesn't want to have an unruly dog at that age on her hands. This is where a halti lead would come in handy, as you would have greater control over the snout and head of the dog, it is very easy to pull them to your side and get them use to walking beside you. And again, basic commands such as "heel" will help the dog to understand what she wants him to do.

Rewarding good behaviour with treats will help the dog pick up commands faster as there is a benefit to them (food) if they do what they're told.

Also, early socialisation is very important with GSDs, so she should allow the pup and other friendly dogs approach each other and play, sniff, etc.

Thankfully it's ok now just very dry. I'll pick up some aloe vera tomorrow. I should have it in the house.

Just watch the trailer. The accents aren’t the main issue at all (obviously radio is going to concentrate on them, since they can’t show the footage). Jamie Dornan is fishing from a corricle in it. As you do.

Is this a thing? I've had so many people get irritated with me since I moved to London, especially men at work. They say I'm not being clear....like if I wanted someone to do something, I wouldn't tell them to do it, I'd say something like 'do you want to hold that door open for a sec so I can wheel in the whiteboard?' and they'd always reply some smart arse answer like 'no, I don't really want to.' Like, what was I meant to say in that situation? 'Hold the door open'? As if they wouldn't find that bossy and offensive?!

Had never heard in my life before that the way I talk is annoying. Is it an Irish thing?
I had similar experiences when I was working in England, I am the world worst for being indirect like that. In the end, I plunged in and started being direct with the people and the world didn't end.

Tho it made me sad that I had to change my quirky communication manner just bc I was working somewhere else. ta

I emailed a member of staff in the uni as we are being forced into a lot of work in a 92 hours period.
This completely goes again the timetable we were given and no notice of change.

TA The smarmy arrogant response I received back, he even implied that I was whinging bc of my dyslexia and wasn't capable of doing the work.

I think the lovely lady above is a nurse (think I saw it ages ago) and I was going to say aloe gel. It's 99% pure and about 10 euro in chemists.

I use it for burns and rashes etc, it's vital to have in the house. Good for sunburn too for future note. Keep it in the fridge if you can.

TA day from hell. Can't even talk about it.
