14 day incidence rate currently 1137 per 100,000 in Kerry. Stabilising alright but far far too high.

This is not turning quickly enough considering the level 5+ kicked in over two weeks ago and close contacts are still not being proactively tested.
If these cases were transmitted in this period (which is probably the case) its very concerning.

Apologies if discussed already but have any staff in Tralee general and the Bons been vaccinated or whats the process? Just curious as I saw a video on twitter earlier of staff in a midlands hospital pleading for the jab

Photos in the Kerryman (13th Jan) showing staff at Bons being vaccinated. I have heard of staff in both hospitals receiving it.

Over 10,000 people in Kerry and Cork in Nursing Homes and Long term stay Community Hospitals have received a first shot of the Pfizer vaccine. If current trends in Kerry can be maintained then we could be looking at regaining EU green traffic light status in 2.5 weeks.

Excellent. Some much needed good news after a weekend of doom and gloom. Thanks for posting.

15 new cases of Covid19 in Kerry today, 14 day incidence rate down to 403.5 per 100,000, the 3rd lowest in Ireland. Our lowest daily new case numbers since 15th December.

That is way too optimistic, unfortunately. Ireland is one of the worst hit countries in Europe right now - we have to get from the current level of 1,400/100,000 down to 25/100,000 before we qualify for green status.

    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/world/europe/tough-restrictions-on-travel-within-eu-proposed-amid-fears-over-covid-variants-1.4467483

If we all keep to the guidelines we might be close to green in 2.5 months.

all negative... via my friend the resident says (they are compos mentos)... but I would ask residents familys to check themselves so as not to give false hopes... and they will all have to be tested again...so...so far so good. Great news..fingers x

update..been buzy...took online break... all second tests on residents negative also. Well done all. Those eligible and choosing vaccination done before this last weekend past.. Resident/friend says no adverse reactions...not even small for themselves.... told them to buddy up (following any SD guidlines in place)previous to taking it and look out for each other on top of what the HCWs are doing.

Second injection due in 3 weeks... we even have had the conversation re ....that it is still possible to transmit/acquire the virus up until 10/11 days after second shot...

Other conversation notes over time that I have had have with all my 80+ers...

others in their peer group all types of expriences
data on how many/what type of people of their age group in trials
a check in with them list in the few days afterwards
Do they want somebody to go with them
what precautions will that person take to be covid free
how data may change from clinical trials to studying it in real life in the community etc

Note our family are trying to instigate an aprox. 2hour/2 day/2 week protocol post each injection for keeping an eye on our seniors who have chosen to have the injection

-Serious reaction very close watch 2hours/
'post injection symptom close watch circa 2days/
-more watchful waiting relaxed but not totally...infection avoidance til optimal suposed point 2 weeks(circa 10/11 days)
We are being cautious ( previous non covid adverse reactions in other family members)and its easier to remember 2/2/2 rule that we came up with independantly.

Can be done via a mix of 'in present'... or sitting outdoors...via mobile..skype..zoom..tech... baby monitor.. other health tech..thermometer/pulse oximeter ..window waving..neighbours and even no contact 14 days before isolation and then staying over with them during the duration. Remember do it in a matter afact way with no fear mongery or over crowding and with the persons consent... some might not want it at all.

And I should say we have been sharing with them especially those in nursing homes.. since last february re vit d c (zinc after only them talking to their own doctor) sunshine..
ventillation ... stress mimimisation...mental health...isolation... being under/over OCD on cleaning or avoiding stuff..PPE.. risk assessing...pcr nasal swabbing technique. .transmission outdoor v indoor...contact tracing...ok to feel angry and other emotions... symptoms especially if any different ones in older people.. importance of covid downtime.. polticalisation.. pulse oximters..treatments
..smelling taste test..restrictions/all sides of the debate..hospitillization/death rates...recovery stats spectrum for older people..communication technology..other mass options..connecting with family and friends and even pets when physically disconnected from the above...healthy eating ...excercise.. amongst other things etc etc
All at ..whatever ability they can do or understand the above.

It has been amazing journey... brought a lot of us closer together in ways...potentially opens new lines of communication... how to agree to disagree...laughter...tears...comedy...how to talk about mortality/death and how best to spend time living life...until that point here on earth...I have learnt so much from them and are grateful for their wisdom of years...Fingers crossed we are on the home run.

If you have a compos mentos senior relative/friend talk to them explain the up and down sides of all covid related issues... then they are better able to talk/ask questions of their doctor/medical team and following on from that...they can research themselves or share explainations with fellow friends/residents who can then formulate/ask their own questions. And remember to talk about the other non covid more important stuff like love and everday things :)

Note...some residents/older people may not want information or only on certain aspects of covid. Try and respect their choices even if that is akward. And for some you.. who are their guardians..especially if they cannot understand the issues/choices at all..(a situation I understand).that is a heavy responsibility and my thoughts are especially with you.

Apologies for rambling this was meant to be originally a short post. I hope it helps someone even a bit :D
