That is one of my favourite plants.
Lilac (Syringa)
Very easy to grow and very aromatic.
Easy to propagate, if you know someone who hs one just ask to take a shoot from the root ball with some of the root and grow in a pot until ready to plant out.

Spanish Eyes

Ceanothus or Californian lilac. Gorgeous shrub altogether.

Unfortunately not suited to damp soil or dark facing situations.
