    That's helpful, thank you.

Is this the Travel forum or After Hours?

    Got my email just now.

I applied for a refund on FEB 26th ffs.
I got 2 emails saying I was in the queue for a refund.

Have I any recourse with a visa debit card?

With SCC - if successful, would you get a judgement for the amount your owed plus the SCC fee (€25 I believe)?

Same here, I got an email today with a voucher code, after I applied for the refund in March

I took a SCC case a few years back and won. Got the amount I requested but not the fee. I hadn't requested it though so you could add it to your dispute amount and explain it on the day.

Disgraceful. I'm also going to initiate a chargeback via ulster bank.

I'm confused. i Just got a voucher but I requested a refund. It directs you to the site if you want a full refund but then there is nowhere to go.

I found a separate refund application page but even there it won't let me resubmit because "a refund request was previously submitted". I just want my money back, I know it's tough for the airlines but I have my own problems.

They want you to be confused so that you give up, take the voucher and go away. You need to contact them to confirm the status of your refund application but every statement they make says don't call them so you've no choice but to go onto their online chat where you'll be put in a queue and ignored all day like I've been. 6 Hours now. I'll keep waiting though and I'll be back on it at 6am tomorrow until i get an answer. I might invoice them for my time too:D.

I got the same email this morning. I was on to the live chat from 11.30. I unwittingly refreshed the page at 12.03 and it bloody well disappeared. Got back on to it and have been waiting now since 12.05.(7 hours now). I also emailed Joe Duffy and Ivan Yeats radio shows. I also tried calling them out on twitter this afternoon, and lo and behold, I got an answer within 4 minutes. They wanted a lot of information relating to the booking, and another user complained about the data needed, but they replied to him saying that it was safe to send. So I did the same on a Direct Message. I am still waiting on a response though.

Also, misread the poll question, as I think a lot of others did.

This should be all over the news tomorrow.they can't get away with this.especially after saying they would refund you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,600 ✭✭✭BanditLuke

You know what's sickening, this is an airline with billions in the bank and they can well afford it. I haven't gotten my refund yet either but I most certainly will not be accepting a voucher. I'm out of work and need the money ASAP.

It's not even the going back on what they've said that's annoying it's the fact that they MUST refund you, by law, if that's what you want.

Ryanair aren't going to start refunding until their staff can get back to work. They are really fighting the refunds!

Buy in the meantime they still have a dozen or so planes flying into Ireland

So I had a few flights booked, which have all been cancelled. Requested refund over a month ago. Got the standard email saying there would be a delay as was in refund queue. I was happy with that, weird times etc. This evening got two emails with vouchers. I want my refund as I have no intention of using them again. Tried to fill out standard refund form but that’s giving me a message saying that my flight number does not match the airline code  my flight number is FR109 and I have the choice of Ryanair FR, Ryanair UK or another one OE. I’m clicking Ryanair FR but not letting the form through  it’s saying that the flight code does not match the flight number.
I’m fuming. They really are trying to make this as difficult as possible in hope that people will give up. They really are a bunch of scammers!! Michael O’Leary should hang his head in shame, customer service my arse.

IT so not fair that they say they will refund the fights and now do a U turn. My flights were for almost 1600 euro and will not be able to user 12 month voucher.

A few weeks ago someone in here said they felt sorry for Ryanair when all this happened.

You have people desperately trying to get cash together to pay bills and this is the type of behaviour O'Leary thinks is acceptable.

This is a load of Bollox....!
Do you think there is nobody at all in the Airside offices.!! Other companies, can keep their offices open with a reduced amount of staff. Banks, for instance are doing just this. Do you think if you called up AIB and asked them why you couldn't withdraw your money, that they would tell you that the withdrawal staff are all at home and can't access the systems for you. Biggest Lie of the year right there. My OH, is in the other room at the moment using her work laptop to access executive level stuff at one of the high street banks. So anything can be done from home if they really wanted. Ryanair are trying every trick in the book to keep hold of our money.

Got the email too, quite happy to wait even though the EU says 7 days. Got the voucher today. Fuming.

Thinking scc is the way to go. Any advice?

I applied for a refund 4 weeks today and received the email about the voucher this evening. The "contact us" link in the email to proceed with a refund has no info. I am in no rush to get the refund but what do we do now...just try and contact them via chat or send an email?

The flight I had booked has had the route completely cancelled so even if I wanted to use the voucher there wont be a flight to the destination in the next 12 months.

Edited to add in that we also cancelled our Airbnb and had refund within 36hrs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,503 ✭✭✭thomasm

Rang Avantcard to start chargeback earlier. They said they could not process them because even though Ryanair cancelled the flight they have not said they won’t refund the money which is them(Ryanair) being sneaky.

Persuaded her to do it in the basis they were not making the option to get a refund a viable choice. Not optimistic and nor was she. Think they are fed up with all the calls about this

Anyone know if those vouchers can be used multiple times until the value of the voucher has depleted, or are they single use vouchers?

The FAQ says they can be used multiple times.

Matt Cooper covered this today. They said what what Ryanair were doing was illegal, which won't come as a surprise to anyone here. Their advice was to persevere with Ryanair for the refund and complain to the regulator if you weren't getting anywhere. The regulator have been fairly quiet on this so far. Hopefully they tell Ryanair to comply with the law.

Also on Matt Cooper the panelist said that Ryanair wanted this to go to the High Court. There they will argue it's an Act of God.

If the High Court were to rule in their favor, they would be under no obligation to refund anybody. I presume if they lose, they'll appeal to the Supreme Court. They'll just wear people down.

I also reported them to Avant Card last week and I'm waiting for them to reimburse me. I have always found them to be excellent, and on your side rather than on whatever company is trying to screw you over's side.

Imagine paying interest on your credit card on money that you were owed and the company that owed you money just refused to pay.

Due to fly to Spain on May 30 which obviously won’t be happening , how long before do they contact you about cancellation ?

So they can process vouchers for everyone with a cancelled flight but can't process a refund?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 193 ✭✭eltonyio

I'm waiting for a refund since 21st March for an early April flight and now have multiple emails like everyone else and no sign of a cent. Fully expecting to get the voucher email in the next few days and intending to go the chargeback route when it happens. The small claim court route intrigues me too but the fact they are already breaking the law with this gives me no faith they wouldn't just do it again with an individual judgement against them.

How do people feel the Irish banks/ credit card companies will react when they receive thousands of calls daily about chargebacks?

I'd imagine it's a relative trickle at present but will turn into a flood as everyone realises they've been duped with the holding pattern emails and vouchers. Will pressure on the card companies cause them to in turn pressure Ryanair about it? Or would that even have any impact at all?

They could automate the refund process if they wanted to.
The car hire companies have done it already and process refunds in 24 hours.
This is about holding on to your money.

Acts of God apply to compensation for not delivering a contracted service.

Nobody's looking for compensation here people are just trying to get their own money back from Ryanair.

Anyhow Ryanair have already agreed that people are entitled to a refund they are just delaying it
until Michael decides that the Covid-19 has abated!

Its reported here on boards that VISA have already put a hold on all Ryanair chargebacks on the basis that they are offering a voucher.

The banks are intermediaries here and will only give you money if Ryanair agree.

    Nonsense.

Chargebacks are nearly always when the company is refusing to cooperate.

Would opening a dispute on PayPal have any chance? Not due to fly until end of May so flight not technically cancelled yet. Has anyone gone the PayPal route?

I think Ryanair is a company which was hit by this crisis the most. It is not only that they don't earn money, but you have to use planes to keep them in a good shape, so much bigger losses for them. They also have to keep them somewhere. For free? And what about all flying staff?

I enjoyed flying with them. I could have afforded nice breaks from time to time and I would like to enjoy it in the future. Cutting it short I would prefer if they stayed in business.

I am in a lucky situation that I haven't lost my job. Yet (touch the wood). I work from home. Practically financially this situation is ok for me. So if I can help struggling company by giving them a small loan in a form of accepting their voucher, I am ok with it.

This voucher is valid for a year. But practically it can be even 2 years because it is valid for a year for booking. So if I book a flight for March 2022, I still can do it. I am pretty sure I will use it during this time frame.

And if they go bust, they will go bust. But I at least save myself time for trying to get a refund from them. I will get a refund from my credit card insurance then.

Anyway it was only one return flight, so not a big money in my case. But I understand that some people paid a lot for their whole families.

Fought with them for 3 weeks but they wouldn't budge. Will never book a flight with PayPal again, though they did refund my flybe flights quickly.

I'm 6 weeks waiting on Wednesday so lodged a case with the regulator tonight.

    Nonsense.

Chargebacks are nearly always when the company is refusing to cooperate.

Here is the quote from Limapromac #78 above.....

"So I was just on to the credit card company...visa international have blocked all chargebacks so are protecting Ryanair as a company instead of protecting the consumer...because ryanair have offered an alternative of a voucher it's up to you the consumer to accept that voucher and if you don't accept you can join the Q to get a refund which is at their time discretion..the refund will come but only when ryanair are back in business as a company so people will have to wait... Shocking stuff .... Am prepared to wait as they owe me just under 1000 euro for a family holiday that we planned almost a year ago as a once in a lifetime trip.... "

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 301 ✭✭limabromac

I am going to ring them (the cc comoany) back today and lodge a complaint. I have also contacted visa international and asked about them if AIB are correct in their answer to me yesterday... If AIB are going against the EU law that protects consumers (section75) then why has it not been advertised that the law has changed... MasterCard don't have this problem so it seems like the bank is protecting Ryanair when it's obligation is to protect you the customer.

If the card holder is not present when making the transaction and the goods are not received and the company offer you a refund and you wait for 7 days then you are entitled to a refund under the chargeback section 75 rules....
I have waited longer than 7 days as most people have, as we received emails from Ryanair to say our flight has been cancelled and to apply for a refund...

Maybe I was too accepting of the answer I received yesterday but the more I think about it, how can my credit card company offer a protection to Ryanair and not to me and my family?

    : )

So does that mean poeple dont have to contact them after getting that scummy voucher email. All they have to do is nothing and WAIT for their refund and it will be automatic as agreed when they clicked the refund button a month ago?

Because the Coronavirus will surely be gone by the time someone answers on their chat.
