Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'd start out full of enthusiasm for the position, throwing cards around like snuff at a wake, but it wouldn't be long before I discover that playing by the book doesn't get you anywhere in this game. I'd gradually become more and more embittered, watching less competent mods getting promoted to CMod and Admin while I'm languishing at the bottom of the pile, doing all the donkey work. And that's when I'd start going off the rails, hitting the drink a bit heavy, banning people who I don't like, accepting cash in return for retracting cards and bans.

All I know is it wouldn't end well.

I would ban quick and ban often. Ask no questions and seek no explanations.
Fck fairness....no time to that. Leave that to more level headed mods.

    Never complain, never explain.

    How tanish of you:D

Fair play. Gifs are the very best thing about the internet.
I used to like Vines too. Can't understand why they stopped.

Don't think I have much of an interest being a ban hammer wielding power tripper...

Me neither. I'd introduce a new rule that every user will have to have accrued at least 1000 thanks before they can make a post.

    Report early, report often

You must conform and have the “correct” opinions on things.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,972 ✭✭✭✭Tell me how

Habits, people come back in certain topics or forums. And the views they discuss. Tend to be markers. Along with their style of language.

And they come straight in with commentary about the thread, or other posters which indicates strong recent experience, while their post count is under 10.

Re-reging isn't illegal in certain circumstances I expect, having more than one account at same time is and I presume if you've been perma-banned then it also is

It'd depend what forum I'm moderating. Some look pretty straightforward. I don't think I'd be much good on AH. Too laid back and not on it enough to monitor it.

I’d say you’d get awful tired of making that lame coke and hookers “joke” over, and over, and over, and over, again.

I was a mod on the MMA, Martial Arts, Dublin City and the Military Forum and honestly I hated it.

No way I'd do it again and that's mostly down to feeling the admin and Cmods did not having my back.

I was asked to moderator on AH a few years back, not a chance in hell. There's not enough hours in the day to moderate here and have a life away from AH.

So what kind of Mod would I be?.. A very reluctant one.

Probably one that forgets they are one, doesn't log in for weeks at a time and a quickly gets removed.

id be quick to ban anyone unable to differentiate between disagreement with ideals from ad-hom

posters claiming that their opinions needed a special platform or protection because of a personal characteristic of theirs would unfortunately find me unsympathetic.

posters that post encyclopedic tracts of links and text without ever actually responding to any points made would be bounced out of the thread every time

direct abuse a no no, but i think id be quicker than the policy tends to be here to identify the starting poster and hit them hardest.

otherwise, light touch until needed, hammer as soon as i had cause.

much love to the mods, who have an awful job with us lot here tbf

I would be the Mod who logs on late at night when all the trolls, shills and arßeholes have already been banned.

I'd be moderating myself as nobody would be posting.

BuboBubo, flies in and does nowt. But still expects coke and hookers (male).

So anyway Boards, can I have a Mod job? How much does it pay? When do I start? Can I have a desk at a window? When's break?

IP address and posting style would be my guess. I did moderator / admin for another site, tiny in comparison to boards and a more relaxed say, set of rules but regregs would be fairly instantly recognized. You can change your signup details... username, email, location, avatar all you want but if somebody reregs they’ll have the same interests, same way of expressing themselves, same tendencies to go off on one when a certain button or buttons are pushed.

    Useless.

I'd just alternate between letting people run amok or arbitrarily picking on people that irritate me. Plus I'm not that good at those flirt/what did you have for dinner/hunzo chats although I do try.

How about I mod everyone who has posted in this thread and see if the site lasts longer than the virus? I could see an exponential growth in bannings with a flattening of that curve after a week or so, last man/woman standing in another month or so get's a free Covid-19 test

First off, feel free to delete if not allowed.

So what kind of Mod or admin do you think you'd make? I used to think I'd be pretty fair. Let discussion flow, throw out some warnings or bans when needed but after spending waaaay to long on here over the last few weeks I think in reality I'd be a awful.

Another thread on something that's already being discussed - warning for laziness and inability to use the search

You post crazy outlandish stuff supporting conspiracy theories - ban for being a numpty

You've created another random thread (you know who you are!) - ban, just because

I actually think it would end terribly for all involved.
I don't think i would give many cards or bans at all. I would just let most of it go.

If people were bullying etc that would be my main thing. I might ban people then.

I think i would mostly try and not do anything though.
