Whatsapp Chat Restore

Not sure if I’m at a brick wall here, my whatsapp app crashed during an update so I deleted and redownloaded. Anyway, it seemed to think the last chat back up was from last year so that’s all I recovered from the cloud. Is there anyway at all I can get more recent chat history back?

On a similar vein, I have that enabled along with background refresh for WhatsApp but the scheduled backups don’t work
