Are you in agreement its a lockdown now?

We've been through this before. Leo was reluctant to use the word lockdown as it means very different things to different people. Then he did use the word to describe it. Then it was put to you that it could be a more severe version of a 'lockdown' and then you rubbished it. Yeah, I'm in agreement. More internet points for you?

Is there information for this I can't find any?

The thread has reached a new low. Using a woman dying of cancer to score points. Pathetic.

But the lads using 30, 40, 50 covid deaths a day to score points are cool

    No points for me.

I just find the people calling it "fairly light restrictions" are very disrespectful to all the people who are suffering and making enormous sacrifices because of the lockdown.

Not really logic after Tony admitted Ireland are counting suspected not proven Covid deaths. So the numbers are of course inflated

And yet China were criticised for not including such clinically diagnosed cases.

Damned if they do and damned if they dont! . To some though I reckon the present goverment will never do anything correct - even if they came up with a Covid vaccine tomorrow lol.

You make some fair points re people trying to manage at home, the sadness of people dying alone, etc. It’s awful and very hard on families and their loved ones.
However I’m going to have to respectfully disagree with your point that Ireland’s Reputation is safe, read an article in the Irish independent earlier stating our banks could be getting into trouble, moreso than other nations who’ve had worse outbreaks. Why would this be if our response is measured and in line with others. The lack of government has to be a major concern also.

I don't know why this would be as I haven't seen that article nor read anything else that references this. Can you post the link to this article?

I think this post will annoy/satisfy both cohorts in the thread. I've just caught up on about five or six pages. The reason I was so far behind - I was at work today! The crowd I work for have reopened. That will keep the 'open everything' crowd happy. It's construction, so it's mostly outdoor. The reason it will annoy some of those same people is because it's in the north. I'll be crossing the border in the morning and crossing it again in the evening.

We have a mediocre to poor health service by standards of a rich country.

It's really awful, but to be expected that a lot of it had to shut down to focus on this pandemic.

I keep hearing a message of "go to your doctor", not wait if something is wrong with you blah blah.

While that is worthwhile & people should of course do that, unless you have Covid-19 itself, or some problem that can be fixed by a GP (or emergency dept) sending you away with minor treatment/pills, or you are in immediate danger/already seriously ill, you likely won't be getting anything much from the health service at the moment .
2 members of my family have had major illnesses diagnosed and treated, all in lockdown , and way faster than would have been treated prior to this .
So there is no blah about it, it's TRUE.

One month doesn't mean anything. Much better to look back at the numbers for the year and see if they are significantly higher overall. For all we know deaths could spike for a few months then be lower than usual in other months so that it all averages out. I suspect that will turn out to be the likely scenario, rather than a hugely disproportionate number of deaths compared to other years.

Well in Comparison to New Zealand as detailed - our restrictions are "fairly light" I suppose. They're not even allowing anyone in

Sure you think a bunch of the restrictions are fairly soft yourself and that we need to have stricter ones?
    easypazz wrote: »
    ...

There are a few soft restrictions that can be eased from next week, like DIY stores and garden centres opening once strict measures are in place....

Though I think you are being a bit hard on yourself for being "very disrespectful to all the people who are suffering and making enormous sacrifices because of the lockdown

Important not to take things out of context.

    Null point ...

They don't want it to go ahead

I doubt if any of these guys having histrionics over the LC and battering the government have any children. There is a petition on change.org by parents of LC students, gathering thousands of signatures over the last few days, hence Leo and McHugh reconsidering it. They all want it cancelled as it can't go ahead as planned .

Any chance from now on Dr Holohan can include in his daily briefings the number of cases of missed appointments relating to cancer diagnoses and treatment, particularly in those under 65? And other potentially fatal illnesses if not treated in time?

I very much doubt you do for one. Just using them as you have used others as pawns to suit your real agenda on this forum.

    I very much do actually.
I work in Educational tourism and am currently supporting several students who are/have been preparing to do the exams. They've been living In Ireland for several years with plans to do the leaving cert and go to Irish college as full paying Non EU students.

    Please retract your allegations.

For all those saying that nothing is happening in the hospitals except Covid...here's a positive from one part of the island - https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-northern-ireland-52552183

One third of the waiting list for kidney transplants has been tackled in a few weeks. Where there's a will, there's a way.

Actually, he was asked about this too and said that this year's deaths are in line with previous years but then put it down to people not recording deaths this year due to the restrictions

That is not right. It was shown yesterday on the briefing. Record high deaths for month of April, highest ever recorded. Jan Feb and March are all up higher than seasonal norm .

HSE hospital report after being issued for today.

As of 8pm tonight there are 76 confirmed cases in ICU.

Also as of 8pm there are 569 confirmed cases in acute hospitals.

Last night that was 82 confirmed cases in ICU and 618 cases in acute hospitals.

Yep and mostly caused by social media and mainstream media scaremongering.

The bigger crises now than covid 19 are mental health, lack of cancer diagnoses and unemployment.

These need to be the headline news going forward in Ireland.

Those deaths are based on their doctor's clinical judgement, who would have known the patient and certified the death . What you think, they are just guessing?!

You are probably referring to stats from Rip.ie. Here is more reliable source. Easy to compare to other countries.

We are in the same trend as ie, Austria, Denmark, Germany. Completely different than UK, Spain or Italy

Will be curious to see the annual rates this time next year, how much excess annual mortality due to this there is.
