Bruce Springstien - Because The Night [It's The Boss, enuff said]
Seether - Careless whisper Vs Guided by Voices - Hold on Hope [pass on this]
Echo and the Bunnymen - People Are Strange [serious nostalgia with this tune from Lost Boys, great cover]
Muse - Feeling Good [heard this version on ads and always liked it, but never knew it was Muse]

I'm being kept busy over in the other Tournament, but had to come in and throw some votes in for these songs. Love them all.

Match 45: Bruce Springsteen. Absolutely amazing song
Match 46: Seether. Another classic and Seether did a decent enough job
Match 47: Echo and the Bunnymen. One of the cases that I like the cover more than the original
Match 48: Muse. Really good cover of another super classic!!

Lets move on and see if these resolve later.

In case they are still unresolved:
Elton John - really getting into him lately
David Gray - superb song and good cover
Saxon - just because I like it better as a song

You people are all dead to me. ;)

Nobody should corrupt The Doors like that.

I'd usually agree. But I do like that version.

I hate it. It makes my ears hurt.

Not as much as Madonna doing American Pie but still... :)

Oh yeah, we can agree about that one for sure.

Lonestar had more than one song. Who knew! I'll give them a vote cos I like the song and he didn't butcher it too much

Communards gets my only other vote this round. Catchy tune

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Higher Ground - good cover, even better use of a green screen!!
Siouxsie and The Banshees - A close second to the chillies for the green screen action
Devo - I Can't Get No Satisfaction - I was very close to nominating this myself, delighted someone else did

    Okay, I'm back!

    My votes are in bold.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Higher Ground Vs The Killers - Shadowplay - Heard the Killers version of this before I got to know the original by Joy Division. Very respectful to the original and good delivery by Brandon Flowers.

Siouxsie and The Banshees - Dear Prudence Vs Lonestar - Walkin In Memphis - Good cover by Siouxsie and Co. of a lesser known Beatles tune. Plus it was my nomination!

Devo - I Can't Get No Satisfaction Vs Roxy Music - If There Is Something - Whacky but brilliant cover version, making it their own.

Sufjan Steven's - Amazing Grace Vs Communards - Don't Leave Me This Way - It's kind of catchy - sort of love/love relationship with that song, but mainly positive. The other song I just heard, and I'm not sure about it!

Match 49: Red Hot Chili Peppers (difficult choice, I like this a bit more)
Match 50: Siouxsie and the Banshees (kudos tp whoever submitted it!!!)
    Match 51: no vote
Match 52: Communards (might be one of my nominations, I need to check)

Yes, there were at least two versions of it out in the 1970s - blending soul and disco: Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes and Thelma Heuston.

The Killers - Shadowplay - nominated this (i think) so it wins this very bloody tough choice
Siouxsie and The Banshees - Dear Prudence - hear this on today xm a lot and liked it
Communards - Don't Leave Me This Way - this is my winner of the two options

It's strange that Soft Cell and The Communards wrote most of their own stuff, but their only Number Ones were cover versions!

Actually, despite the entry for Roxy Music here, most of their songs were written by them (usually Bryan Ferry). Again, their only Number 1 was in fact a cover version - Jealous Guy. Not to be confused with Bryan Ferry's solo stuff, which had a lot of covers!

    My votes:

Pet Shop Boys - Always On My Mind Vs The Futureheads - Hounds of Love - The Futureheads really make it their own with this quirky cover.

Roxy Music - Jealous Guy Vs Radiohead - Nobody Does it Better - They are both okay but I think Roxy just shades it for its pathos.

Saint Etienne - Only Love can Break your Heart Vs Joe Cocker - With a little help from my friends - Joe Cocker's interpretation is just superb.

Smokin' Mojo Filters - Come Together Vs Snake River Conspiracy - How Soon is Now - Paul Weller and Co. stick close to the original and it sounds cool.

Jesus I'm really not sure about that radiohead cover. I wouldn't put him as the world's greatest singer! Not voting for jealous guy either as don't think much of that either.

Pet Shop Boys - Always On My Mind Vs The Futureheads - Hounds of Love i want them both tbh, can we vote for both? if not...... Pet shop boys...
Roxy Music - Jealous Guy - again a tough choice
Joe Cocker - With a little help from my friends - an easier choice
Smokin' Mojo Filters - Come Together - again love this song, liked this cover...

Match 54: Roxy Music - not their best moment but I never gor the love for Radiohead

Pet Shop Boys - Always On My Mind Vs The Futureheads - Hounds of Love - PASS

Radiohead - Nobody Does it Better. The title says it all, blows the original out of the water.

Joe Cocker - With a little help from my friends. Great version, as long as I don't have to look at Joe Cocker who generally appears to be constipated when he's singing it. :)

Smokin' Mojo Filters - Come Together. Love this song, and that's a pretty decent cover.

Bay City Rollers - I Only Want to be with You Vs Bruce Springstien - Because The Night

Bruce Springsteen although I'm not too sure if he should be disqualified for not being a cover. (he wrote and half recorded the song originally! then cowrote with Patti Smith the version everyone knows before playing his own song live as a cover lol)

Seether - Careless whisper Vs Guided by Voices - Hold on Hope
    Pass

Echo and the Bunnymen - People Are Strange Vs Joan Baez - Donna, Donna

Echo and the bunnymen. Best cover of a doors song.

Rage Against The Machine - Maggie's Farm Vs Muse - Feeling Good
