Bay City Rollers - I Only Want to be with You Vs Bruce Springstien - Because The Night

Bruce Springsteen although I'm not too sure if he should be disqualified for not being a cover. (he wrote and half recorded the song originally! then cowrote with Patti Smith the version everyone knows before playing his own song live as a cover lol)

This is interesting. The Patti Smith version was initially nominated but I think that was the original version. I allowed the Bruce version as I was sure he recorded a studio version of it but I can't find any proof of that now. If it was only a live recording, then it should indeed be disqualified. Thoughts folks?

Sonic Youth - Superstar - preferred this one on listening to to both
Mariah Carey - Without You - Ditto
Scissor Sisters - Comfortably Numb - prefer the original, but love their own take on this.
The Ramones - Baby, I Love You - this was a tough one, but this is a great cover.

He has a studio version on the album The Promise- its unreleased and alternate versions from Darkness on the Edge of Town sessions in the late 70's.

Ben Folds - Bitches ain't **** ; was thinking of nominating this, but didn't think it would appeal to the masses.

Gemma Hayes - Wicked Game ; there are better covers of Wicked Game, but can't stand Mariah Carey.

The Jam - David Watts ; much prefer this one to Scissor Sisters

Manic Street Preachers - Raindrops Keep Fallin' on my Head ; a cover that is far superior to the original

    Sonic Youth - Superstar
    Gemma Hayes - Wicked Game
Scissor Sisters - Comfortably Numb (very interesting take on a song, though understand why it may not appeal to everyone)
Ramones - Baby, I Love You (love this, hate both Manic Street Preachers and Raindrops Keep Falling...)

Thanks tpt. I'm happy to keep it then. Seems Bruce recorded it first without lyrics, gave it to patti who added her own lyrics, then the original demo with additional instruments and pattis lyrics was released on his album the promise.

    Clever

    Gemma Hayes - Wicked Game
    Really don't like Mariah

    Scissor Sisters - Comfortably Numb
This is genius, I can't even figure out if I should be embarrassed saying that.....

Queens of the Stone Age - Outlaw Blues - big QOTSA fan so this one for me...
Limp Bizkit - Faith - because it is a different version to the original and they made it their own...
The Byrds - Mr. Tambourine Man - my best of the two...

Queens of the Stone Age - Outlaw Blues [never heard this before, nice version]
Johnny Cash - Rusty Cage [easy choice]
Luke Kelly - The Auld Triangle [again, no contest]

The Hothouse Flowers - I Can See Clearly Now. Another one of those covers that I think is better than the original.

Johnny Cash - Rusty Cage. Not even Holly Valance's hotness can overcome the Man in Black.

Limp Bizkit - Faith. Not a fan of either, but dislike Limp Bizkit marginally less.

The Byrds - Mr. Tambourine Man. Not a lover of either song really, but this is definitely the better cover.
