    Thanks for the heads up.

Seen comparison between Kodiaq and Karoq. Looks like Karoq would suit our needs. I just hope interior is not plasticy.

Once the lockdown is back they will be offering all sorts to shift new cars

Would test drive all and see which one you prefer, personally I could sit in a Skoda for any distance let alone get into it every day....

I done the VW test drive on the Kodiaq, started at Skoda in Ballymount, Bradys Castleknock Seat and then up to VW At Joe Duffy and AUdi

I was in the Kodiaq Sportline at crazt money to get a decent interior. The Seat was very surprising, I really really liked it. But the VW stood out for me. It was lovely, a real step above. I checked into Audi but above budget. I would expect the Karoq is similar, the best way is test one after another......

im the same as this fella, I could sit in a skoda for any distance journey, the supurb is the most comfortable car ive sat in and way more room than most other cars in its class, the kodiaq is a lovely yoke but just be warned that its not good if you need to pull a trailer,

Kodiaq is too big for our needs.

Tiguas vs Koraq at the moment.

I heard that in the 80's....is it actually still relevant today?

Not in my experience, a lot of people do not like Peugeot and I always drove ford before, a few years ago we had to get a bigger car so I went for the previous version of the 5008, had it for 2 years and no trouble at all, then I got the facelift version and it's a great car to drive, looks good, is economical and have had no issues whatsoever.

I ask because my brother has a 5008 since 2011, thing has been rock solid and no idea what mileage on it now but has to be over 200k miles. Still going, I think they replaced the clutch and regular service.

    My tuppence worth.
Test drove The Kodiaq, 5008, 3008, Sorento, Discovery Sport and possibly others. Had an X-Trail for a two week hire. I was never in the market for the 3008, but drove it anyhow. The Sorento was excluded for varying reasons, but I actually really liked it. Of the 7 Seaters, the Disco Sport and X-Trail are considerably smaller cars.
I found myself torn between the Kodiaq and 5008. Heart wanted the 5008 and head the Kodiaq. In the end I realised that my head was being massively influenced by past Peugeot indiscretions and the VAG versus Peugeot online/pub discussions in general, which was fairly heavily in favour of the VAG. I also own a Golf.
I drove them again, minutes apart, with the Kodiaq going first, then into the Peugeot. Call it an epiphany, the Peugeot was just so much nicer in so many ways. I bought the 5008 GT-Line with Leather and a few other extras. Zero regrets and although Im not the main driver, to this day when I get into it I absolutely love it. The interior is just fantastic. Best car I've had to date which includes quite a few.

Full disclosure - Stop-Start stopped working and would disable itself just recently. Fixed under warranty. Cant remember the part, but the service I think mentioned a pump. No other issues. 6L/100 1.6 Diesel. Now has 60K KM on it.

Tiguan Highline DSG or R-Line if in budget.

Leather added as standard to the tech pack that's on all stock vehicles before the facelift happens.

Adaptive Cruise control is standard on this model but I don't think it is on anything else mentioned, and that would be fantastic for the 200km motorway journey.

the wife has had a kodiaq for three years now and it has been a lovely car to own .. it wasn't cheap by the time it was spec'ed up. I was never a fan of SUV's but i do like driving it. She is changing it now and didn't even consider another SUV.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,946 ✭✭✭masterboy123

Tiguan Highline is coming under budget, but they are not providing beige leather, I know its a very specific request, but would love to continue having beige interior.

Skoda Koraq does have beige leather interior.

In terms of durability, is VW cars better than Skoda? Also, what about after sales department?

Skoda is VW...no idea on after service

The main difference I find on them is the quality of the interior and the comfort. You are doing big mileage so you dont want a car which is not comfortable or nice to sit in

There is a storm grey (I think) interior option in the Tiguan that is light enough, but not sure if there would be any in stock or coming in with that as its not that popular. Black leather is just so much easier to keep clean.

Most of the Karoq models are the 1.6Tdi aren't they, or is there a 2.0 Tdi DSG model?

I've been dealing with Agnews for over 10 years and they're great to deal with. I drive a Tiguan Match Edition myself (have it 4 years from new) and never had any bother with it.

I dont know as I never tested the Karoq

When I done the Kodiaq, Tarraco and Tiguan Allspace. To get a nice Kodiaq I ended up in the Sportline

The Tarraco was very nice, I was surprised

But I found the Tiguan Allspace was by far the best.

Yes, there is indeed a Karoq 2.0TDI DSG available.

Storm grey leather didn't appeal me. It's a personal preference for beige leather and I have it on my current car, and no issues around cleaning.

Is there virtual cockpit included in VW Tiguan 2020 model?

between myself and the wife we've had 4 skoda's in the last 9 years - all bought new from main dealers. the after sales experience between them was like sh1t and chocolate. One was horrendous to get anything done - even booking in a routine service while the other one went above and beyond on even the smallest thing.

If you’re continuing to live in Limerick than Skoda and VW dealership is the same. (Same place as Mercedes too as it happens)

I believe more than one knows his stuff.

I have to say, I had a truly awful experience in that garage going back a good while, but in the past year having visited them with a view to buying a a car, we got a hard worked VW van serviced there a few times -, and from getting accessories and bits and pieces for my own car in there I have been very impressed with the service I’ve gotten.

You will find it hard enough to find something from the Volkswagen Audi Group with leather that isn't grey or black these days. The lighter colours seem to be rare.

which is awful. The golf mk5, Touareg mk1 and mk2 and phaeton used to come with lovely plush cream leather interiors, all but gone in the latest models.

I've been driving a diesel gt line Peugeot 5008 for the few hundred miles just gone.

Peach of an engine all considered, I presume it's 2.0. It has a simple feature that I love, a really tall 6th gear.... 2500 rpm isn't seen until 140kph + ish....it's below 2000rpm at 120kph.

I've not been gentle with it and the trip computer reckons its doing 5.5l/100kph. Trip comp B which seemingly has never been reset states 7.6l/100km over 9999kms. I've been on autobahn for half of my jaunt so far. Must have done loads of city work to get mid 30s mpg over that far.

The annoying bits.... the steering wheel blocks out all the details on the stalks for wipers, cruise control etc & also blocks out some dash display unless you put it on the lowest ht setting. The stalk detail is blocked out regardless....can't fathom how that got through a design assessment or further TBH.

Metal flicky type switches to get radio, temp control etc on centre screen. Not unlike an early bmw mini .... nice ish in a wtf sort of way in 2018 :)

Nice drive though.... the front wheels have a bit to do though and they can get unsettled from take off.

I think it's illegal to use the term SUV and Audi Q3 in the same sentence...

Any thoughts on Audi Q3? It looks bit small though.

You will struggle to find a new one with the options you want for 40k. They are about the same size as the Volvo xc40 too. It will be hard to find any brand new premium brand crossover/suv diesel auto with leather for 40k. Of the non premium brands it's hard to beat the Tiguan for what you want imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,652 ✭✭✭carsfan2

Would Q3 with your requirements not be 45k plus?
Also I don't think Audi do very low rate PCP. Tiguan seems the best bang for your buck of the cars mentioned.
I think there is a new Mercedes GLA just coming out but no idea of pricing.

That's correct. Q3 is the exceeding budget.

The GLA looks like A class that has been to the gym for few months, I would prefer GLC in size. But again it's over the budget. I would have gone with Volvo XC60 if they did 1% APR, even though its costing 57,000.

Are there are 3rd party car loan providers giving competitive rates?

Actually, if you would buy pre reg/demo, you could haggle into Audi Q3 I would say post lock down and Audi do used car pcp at ok rates I think.

Any idea if Mercedes GLB is going to be available in Ireland soon?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,525 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

The GLB is priced the same as an E Class in the UK (35k) starting off. Entry E Class is €55k here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,946 ✭✭✭masterboy123

Good point. But GLB is priced between GLA and GLC.
Base model GLC is 50k a at present. So I am hoping GLB base model be around 42k.

Some websites say it will be out in February 2020, which is obviously gone and other sites say early 2021. I found GLB very attractive, and if its in my budget range, then I don't mind waiting for another 9 months.

This article is saying from 43k for the GLB so with metallic and a few bits probably mid forties?
The Mercedes Ireland website is woeful. the car is up on the UK site from 34,500 pounds sterling.

It’s on the Ireland site but hasn’t been filed in yet.

€43k seems a bit low given a Tiguan Allspace is the same price.

Ah. 7 seats not standard. Plus it seems quite small.

Just checked the price lists and surprised you can get a new GLC for 48k list - I’m sure a discount is to be had off the list price too.

I think 48k is for the manual transmission.

No that’s for the auto - 163bhp, standard spec which is quite high to be fair - LED lights, rear camera, electric tailgate, 18 inch alloys
