    Kia ceed.....1.6crdi.

Not one ounce of problems from a 2012 one owned for about 18 months and then a 2013 one owned for about over a year.

I am not trying to be a troll guys, Most of that threads I was still living in dublin. However, now I moved to Drogheda and it's a whole different story. My wife and I still working at the moment both in the healthcare.

You should get an another Fiesta 1.2 as a donor to keep the current one going, Frank. No matter what you'll be getting, money will be lost for sure unless you fetch something rare enough to go up in value.
Set your budget to blow and get ready for a shock: you might get a less recommended car lasting ages or a sure bet breaking down next day or ... or...
Or pay someone who knows cars to buy something for you. And keep them for maintenance too. Life is too short worrying about cars, especially if one hasn't got a slightest interest in them at all. ;)

KKV with your driving it's either bangeromics or new

Well I've settled into the bangernomics camp for the moment. Has been my choice for the past couple of years with the two Mondeos.

I can't lease, as my mileage is too high. To be honest, if i can get a car with cruise control (and working air con) for a grand or under, then I'm a happy camper.

I really liked the Ford Galaxy, though. I'd spend marginally more to pick up another Galaxy cos of how practical they are, but id be afraid any extra money spent is dead after 12 months anyway, so...

But bangernomics has so far been a good route for me. As I look at the mortgage on my house, I can't help but sometimes feel i'd have at least 5k extra paid off it, if i'd never went with the C5 and stuck with bangers. But as I say, i had hoped the C5 would last a long, long time.

If I am going bangermonics I'll probably go for a petrol one, I know more about it in terms of maintenance than a diesel car.

I did air and pollen filter for the fiesta also all the spark plugs and coolant tank I replaced myself.

€17k would get you a 2015/16 Superb 1.4tsi SE from the UK, DSG too if you are lucky.

Get a decent 2010 Honda insight cheap,Uber reliable,

Well, here we are. It's been a while, ok several years, since I've checked in here but my 2010 Honda Insight has now topped 408,000 miles. I'm no longer driving the distance I used to but the car still manages to run great and get start, air con( from a Honda insight forum)

Not to annoy anybody but what is your opinion with this one

    https://www.windsor.ie/used-cars/11013386-renault-fluence-r-link-1.5-dci-110-201/

At the moment I can afford comfortably financing €200 max monthly for 3 years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Fluence is a good car. Make sure timing belt is done, might be worth while getting one of their better warranties if you want extra peace of mind, I had heard they do 3 year warranties on used cars.

    https://www.windsor.ie/used-cars/11013386-renault-fluence-r-link-1.5-dci-110-201/

I need a bit of help, I am trying to weigh out the cost between the Renault and fiesta:

    Current fiesta

Road tax per year - €280
Last month fuel costs - €260 (about 3,696km)
Average toll per month - €150
    AA - €10

    Renault fluence

    *Road tax - ???
*Average fuel consumption - will it be 50% the amount of the fiesta fuel cost?
    *Toll - €150
*finance - €160 for 3 years from windsor
*AA - do i still need this??

    Thanks.

€200 tax.... Mpg around 50 or more depending on 5 gear or 6.

Seriously you're now thinking it's better to compare a festa that is worn out to a better car for what it is needed for....

I actually now definitely believe this has to be trolling....

Thanks , I am trying to make a financial decision to go with the Renault and see if i will be able to save money.

Like for the road tax i already save €80 and for the fuel that could go with the finance

I've just looked up done deal and a ton of megane, Laguna and fluence in there for €2,500 or less
    2008 to 2012

You don't have to go dealer either but get the car checked before cash changes hands....

Somehow stumbled onto this even though I know very little about cars ... but I do have kids and you mentioned a pregnant girlfriend. While you seem uncertain about what you want, make sure whatever you get has isofix points for the car seat and a boot big enough for whatever buggy / travel system you plan on buying!

Jesus Frank, you are all over the place!!!

You've been asking on here for the last year about what car to go for.

3 days ago you were going for a 2006 Almera for €675 and now you want to pay almost NINE GRAND for a Renault Fluence!! There have been lots of Fluence cars put up in the other thread you posted in (Bangernomics) for around €2,000. At the price you are looking at paying now, you could buy yourself 4 of the Bangernomic Fluences and have a grand left over to tax each one of them for a year.

You really need to figure out what it is you want, or why you are changing and most importantly, how much you want to spend

Is it that you want a newer car? Bigger car? Better fuel economy? Lower tax?

If you really feel you need to spend 9 grand, at least buy something nicer and better value than a 2014 Fluence

By the way, going on the figures you entered for your fuel, the Fiesta is doing about 46mpg or 6.1 litres/100km.
That's a respectable figure even though you have said numerous times that it's very bad fuel economy??

I've heard a great way to save money is by not spending 10 grand you don't have on a car you don't need.

I will not be paying cash, I will trade in my fiesta as a deposit for the fluence, It's done I already reserved the car for €99

So they gave me quote for €200 per month for 3 years for the car and I agree and they told me that they will ring me back after sorting out the papers for the car because the car is at windsor galway and they will have to bring it to windsor Drogheda for me to collect.

I asked the guy if the timing belt was done, he said yes, I asked when is NCT expires, he said February 2022.

I did not receive any contact from them, email or call. What do you think? Did they change their mind or something?

    https://m.carsireland.ie/detail.php?ad_id=2524635&r=s.php?m=72&o=2169&d=5000&e=10000&f=2&yn=2014&g=0

NCT is February 2020 in that ad

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,657 ✭✭✭CIP4

I assume they just did the NCT on it so now it’s Feb 2020 they wouldn’t sell you a car with an expired NCT or shouldn’t anyway. I’d say ring them and follow up with it and find out when it’s ready.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

just checked it on NCT site and it’s tested til 25/06/2022

Oh no..... He'll be back on for another 2 years talking about the festa and that it should do him another 10 years driving 40K a year.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,644 ✭✭✭✭punisher5112

2011 or 12 could be picked up for say €2,500 that's what I'd do...

The megane has now done 50k for me in a year and 3 months....

It’s probably really 25/02/22 but the system is adding on 4 months because of the centers being closed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 808 ✭✭✭FrankC21

Finally got a reply from them they said car will arrive any day next week for collection.

*They will send the sales contract by post for me to sign and send back to them. Should I sign anything if I haven't seen the car?

Also the remaining deposit has to be paid over the phone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

I’d rather look at and drive the car tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 808 ✭✭✭FrankC21

I went to see the car renault fluence today, things I've noticed -

*Engine oil dipped stick not max halfway, oil seems darker

    *4 disc brakes are rusty.

*when the guy starts the engine it did not start very quick took 2-3 secs.

*No mark if car timing belt change, he said they don't mark it on the engine bay.

I asked for a test drive but he couldn't go with me because his alone in the garage.

Car looks good externally and internally but I am in doubt if it has been serviced, n

    Don't buy without test drive.

Discs and slow to start prob just because it's been sitting up
Oil - when was it serviced last?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,076 ✭✭✭GustavoFring

Diesel oil is darker. You could service a diesel and the oil will be dark in a couple of miles. A lot of garages won't service the car until it's sold too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,654 ✭✭✭Mad_Mike

Also, half full on dipstick is OK, as long as it's not under MIN or above MAX

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 808 ✭✭✭FrankC21

I spoke to my mechanic and he advised me to stay clear of this one and Renault prone to electronic problems especially them keyless.

Renault pre 2008 are know for dodgy electrics but newer ones are fine. The disk brakes are like that because its been sitting for few weeks unused and they go like that. A quick spin and they will be fine. Its a fairly reliable car with warranty. Cant really go wrong with it

A friend of mine has 2013 Fluence that he got in 2019 for like 6k. Trouble free and runs perfectly fine. Don't worry too much about electronics as Renaults post 2010 or so have been fairly reliable.
If you're looking for rock solid reliability buy a Toyota or a Honda.

The guy told me that it was serviced when it came in around January/February - I asked if that is the final price he told me that's the best he can do with that spec and he could have sold it 3 times already for the past 2 weeks.
