An post current account foreign exchange fee

    Hi all,

    Sorry if this was asked before, i did a search but found nothing.

    I have the An Post current account Mastercard Debit, i bought an item from Amazon UK few days ago, the bank charged 3% foreign exchange transaction Fee (€18.7)

    I was wondering is this normal? I used BOI Visa debit it was never this much.

    Thank you, shocking An Post has no 'Cap' on FX transaction Fee, i guess better use N26 or Revolut in the future.

    Amazon give you an option to pay in Euro. Their exchange rate may not be as good as N26 or Revolut ect, but at least you will avoid a foreign exchange transaction fee if using your Post Office card.

    Just found this:

    EBS change 1% (minimum €0.30,maximum €6.00).
    PTSB charge 1.75% (Minimum €0.46, maximum €11.43
    KBC charge 1.75% (Minimum €0.46, maximum €11.43
    AIB charge 1.75% (minimum €0.45, maximum €11.00)
    Bank of Ireland charge 2% (maximum €11.43)
    Ulster Bank charge 2% (min €0.50, max 12)
    Ulster Bank charge 2% (min €0.50, max 12)
    Credit Unions charge 2% (Max €12)
    An Post charge 3% (no cap)


    On top of €5 monthly fee, so greedy.

    Might want to add Revolut, N26 and Monese to the list.

    Revolut charge no FX fees on weekdays and 0.5% at weekends subject to usage limits. Get a Revolut card.

    A bit late perhaps, but maybe you should check on all the terms and conditions of your account to avoid any other nasty surprises in the future.
