Hard for the people defending the congress chamber to know that.

Yeah the key thing is that these were the people guarding the chambers of the members of congress, from a group rioting and smashing windows and barricades claiming they're inciting a revolution.

The officers had their guns drawn and were shouting at people not to cross the barricade, and multiple people were pulling her back, including other armed members of the police, yet she decided that she was going to continue anyways and try and enter the congress chamber.

Trump officially conceded and even condemned the attack yesterday(no ifs or buts!)

I'm loathe to link to his twitter but I suppose I can make an exception...

Wonder who managed to finally get through to him and how

It's clearly a deepfake and those libs and the mainstream media have taken control of his Twitter account!!!

Edit: I posted this in jest but just after looking at Reddit and this is genuinely what a lot of them are saying, sweet mother of jaysus.

    Read it, or get 25th'd.

Must have been some amount of concentration drugs he was on to stick on message for that long. Must un-Trump like speech ... probably ever.

First two sentences were lies, of course.

I reckon it is a deep fake...I mean hard to take trump seriously. This video is about 4 weeks too late. And full of lies (as usual) even if much of what he said is what had to be said. I’d say he was told cop on by senior republicans or else we’ll have to take those democratic threats seriously.

As an aside if the dems are serious about forcing impeachment or 25 amendment, having your most left wing representatives (AOC, Omar) as the face of the campaign makes it looking like nothing more than pure politics (which it is).

  • Registered Users Posts: 37,978 ✭✭✭✭irishbucsfan

It’s actually mad looking at the reaction to that video. Half of the right wing accounts are saying that it’s all an Antifa instigated con, because Trump supporters would never do this, and the other half are saying they were there and they did it and this video is a deep fake so they should do it again.

I would say the face of the campaign is Schumer and Pelosi. They’re the ones making statements and they’re exactly who should be making them. Ilhan Omar is just who started it.

Also, it’s worth pointing out that while AOC and Omar are definitely strongly supportive, so are many others. They’re only “the face” of anything in American media because they are female and non-white. I have a feeling that is going to prove pretty dangerous for the conservative media who decided to frame them as socialist masterminds when they realised Sanders was shedding his boogeyman status

A cop has died from injuries sustained defending the mob.

More people have now died than Benghazi.

Omar and some others drafted the impeachment though. So even if Pelosi and Schumer get fully behind it. The media will continue to push where it came from.

The main thing for the Dems in impeaching him, even if it’s after he leaves office. It will mean he can never run for President again. That’s possibly some of the motivation for his speech. To avoid that happening.

The only thing you can say with absolute certainty is that Trump was self serving when he made that speech.

That leaves two likely possibilities, he was threatened in a convincing and serious manner by people with the power to punish him (Senate republicans) or he is teeing up for a 2024 run and needed something to satiate moderate Republicans. Could be both!

I would imagine it was primarily the former and it doesn't read like something drafted by trump. It might be enough for them to see off impeachment if Congress pass the articles currently being drafted.

Impossible to take Pelosi seriously. Instead of saying something like what transpired was not acceptable, I will meet with members from both sides of the house and see if there is a common consensus to impeach she comes out with a threat "either pence invokes 25 or else we'll impeach". That kind of grandstanding will never get republican support.

Well she doesn’t need Republican support in the house and they all already know that

It’s Schumer who needs the Republican support

Impeachment will definitely not happen. It’d rule Trump out of ever running again. He’s going nowhere I’d say

EDIT: I’d say the only way the 25th happens is if Pemce agrees to Pardon Trump and then immediately reinstate him!

I expect Trump to become much more of a fringe figure in the Republican Party than seems possible now. He will support primary challengers loads of republicans who he views as disloyal next year, largely lose and from then on, never be a serious contender for 2024.

The base of his support that believes all the conspiracy theories will move on to someone else. Establishment/moderate republicans never really embraced him anyway albeit they certainly enabled him.

Dublin Live is most definitely not reputable in the slightest. They constantly post misinformation or stuff that is doing the rounds on twitter/whatsapp etc completely unfounded.

The 25th won't happen. The procedure itself is completely open to abuse and it's not really meant to be used as a short cut to impeachment.

If impeachment papers go to the senate quickly enough what might happen is that McConnell will tell Trump to resign. Given that Fox news and many republicans are saying that the riots were antifa in disguise I think it's more likely they will try and BS their way out of it all, but the death of a police officer makes things more consequential.

It's being reported that Giuliani is potentially in trouble for partly inciting the capital riot and that Trumps statement yesterday was a pre-emptive move as he may be in the same boat. I still suspect that nothing will happen through to the 20th bar Trump maybe being a bit quieter on social media.

    There’s no threat of impeachment.

There’s no way two thirds of senate are going to vote to make Trump ineligible to run for public office when so many of them are potentially going to be reliant on the support of his followers for re-election in two years. Trump is a gravy train for fundraising.

If it happens I will buy Venjur 100 bottles of whiskey

I don't think impeachment will happen either, as I said - if the papers get to the senate they *might* demand privately that he resign but if he refuses I'd say that would be the end of it and everyone will sit out the two weeks.

Him being able to run again might or might not be a good thing for Republicans. They've lost the senate and both houses and I suspect there is a good deal that will come out about Trumps actions in office when he leaves office.

Either way - much like Trump, the Republican party will do whatever is in their own best interest.

Why is that? The majority of Spanish population is PRO EU, because we are stronger together. Spain wants unity, that is what EU means.

The main reason part of Catalonia wants to be independant is because they are richer than the rest of the country and they don't want to share, end of the story. Do not forget that one of EU pillars of EU, one of its foundations are solidarity and unity; sharing with the ones that are needed. And that is basically why they don't have any real supporters in Europe.

    How is Catalonia richer? Serious?

You are right! The system over here is completely broken. The political establishment is corrupt and always will be. Imagine a body that investigates itself?
They receive the best medical insurance and receive 100% of their pay for life. Disgusting. The entire system needs to be douched.

Catalonia generates nearly a quarter of Spains GDP and exports more than a quarter of Spains total exports which is a fair bit more than the population of Catalonia.

It's richer the same way Dublin is richer than the rest of Ireland, or see also California -USA. It is the economic powerhouse of the Spanish economy.

Ok. Didn't know. I would have though that Madrid and environs would be the main economic powerhouse.
